Instead of assuming that everyone who disagrees with must be thick
Well you are thick, and evil, so I won't waste energy on you. But Cloud I think has been tricked into being the foil animal in the most basic of Aesop's fables. They have a chance to understand that it's not in their best interests to swipe sideways and then maybe that way they won't sell their labour to a slavemaster and thank them for it, kicking their peers for activating that ounce of sense remaining in their heads that's telling them that's something's not quite right.

Instead of assuming that everyone who disagrees with must be thick, have you considered the idea that you yourself might have been conditioned to 'show solidarity with the workers' regardless of the precise nature of the grievence, in more or less complete hostility to any suggestion of nuance or context? Because, you know, that's generally what people who've been conditioned do...

Twed

Yeah you're right SWP (haha socialist worker's party), we should be nuanced, it's only fair, I'm sure that then the evil fucks milking everybody dry will show their nuance in turn and everything will work out peachy

£15 is a bit much though. I don't mean that in a "THEY DON'T DESERVE IT" way, I mean it in a "Well surely they're just not going to get it" way.

Like, the bosses won't even sit around the negotiating table if they're asking an amount like that. Even within the notion of asking for something excessive to get a better compromise tactic they've gone slightly too far.

Well whatever I don't actually know.

I think that if you don't understand why asking for £15 in South London isn't too much then you don't understand this strike. The entire point is to say "FUCK OFF" to incremental change. This is a part of the movement to end the unfairness and bring power back to people who are selling their labour. If you can't believe in that then I don't think you can believe in things ever getting any better.

Thursday

I am with them, I just mean, they should have asked for £14.50. Still a big increase, but makes them look a little more savvy.

Look I'm only half-serious here.

Twed

I know you think they deserve it, but this is very much an all or nothing thing, I think.

beanheadmcginty

I've always thought that a good way to collect tax more effectively would be to give the workers a fucking massive minimum wage then collect it through PAYE. Those corporate cunts currently avoiding tax (Amazon, Starbucks etc.) can't offshore staff because their business won't work. Everyone's a winner.

Thursday

Also I'm an idiot for accepting the shit pay I get, and probably need advice on joining a union and how it'll actually help.

"How dare they ask for more money to flip burgers, that's not an important and difficult job like mine"

You fucking Tory chumps!

We all are, or have been at some point in time. That's part of it. We thought that was the natural order of things. But it has now come to a point where people take on almost 100K of student debt to end up feeling lucky for getting a tenner an hour and being trained by media that has been around their entire lives that fast food jobs are a funny joke and we should scoff at their demands for a decent life. I think people can stop thinking this if we start being very fucking loud about it and just devote ten minutes of every day to call SWP a cunt.

Chollis

burg king should be paid £20 an hour if this goes through

Chollis

Bossman, what's the redundancy package like at Maccies?

Let's just say you get a LARGE salary TO GO!

I'm an ignorant fuck - what's minimum wage in the UK these days? I worked for about 6 quid an hour for a few years and that was proper hard times in the Bueller household.

Edit: 8.21gbp, about 16k a year? That's rough. Solution is a 15:1 rule - nobody in the company can make more than 15 times the salary of the least well-paid person. You'd soon see raises coming in due to the greedy fucks at the top. Such is life.

AllisonSays

The London Living Wage is £10.55, going in with £15 as a demand seems totally reasonable to me. The argument about skilled and non-skilled labour or educated and non-educated labour doesn't really matter to me; surely it's about overall company profits (10.7 billion dollars gross in 2018 for Macdonalds) and executive salaries (about 250'000 dollars on average and a million or so for the CEO, according to a quick Google).

It's $7.25 where I live, which is just incredibly low. Something like 5.80GBP.

idunnosomename

Would you like to supersize your salary hHahahah look at me im like a journalist

Sometimes Twed, you can be unreasonably shrill and vicious, and in the interest of debate, you could try to understand people's political positions better before eviscerating them.

This is not one of those times.

Don't you live in one of the more libertarian states in the union? I'm not sure if that's due to it (or if the states even vary all that much).

$14 an hour in Ontario, that's about 11quid I think? Seems fair enough, sky hasn't caved in yet. That's about $28k gross, which is about what you pay for a 1 bedroom apartment in downtown Toronto after you've done income tax etc, so it's still probably not all that liveable.

Dex Sawash

In US, federal min wage has been $7.25 since 2009.
States had been able to have lower minimum wage but the employer could not pay that if they engaged in interstate commerce.

Do we really have to explain why people in professions (who generally have to invest in college, internships, university, etc) get paid more than those in unskilled roles?

Glad to see you're onboard with Labour's plan to scrap university tuition fees, then.

thenoise

I once got rejected from a McDonalds interview.

I've never made more than £15 an hour either, but if a McDonalds manager in Marble Arch circa 2003 says I am not worthy who am I to disagree?

If you can't disagree with someone without calling them "evil" then there's a good chance you're an ideologue who's been brainwashed. Just saying, but you're showing all the signs.

QuoteIf you can't believe in that then I don't think you can believe in things ever getting any better.

All or nothing thinking - you're either for of us or against us/evil or pure. Another clear sign that your
brian has been compromised by a spurilous ideology.

Quotethink people can stop thinking this if we start being very fucking loud about it and just devote ten minutes of every day to call SWP a cunt.

Shouting down your 'enemy'. Wishing physical harm on people. Instructing others to engage in bullying/intimidation to silence disagreement (disgusting btw).

You're an unthinking ideological cell.

Dr Rock

If you actually like McDonalds food, it's a great place to work, because you can has free cheeesburgers.

I am all for them getting £15 an hour. Up the workers.

CUH, SO MUCH FOR THE TOLERANT LEFT!!!!!

bgmnts

When that charlotesville nutter killed all those people, that silenced the left. When that right wing nutter murdered MP Jo Cox, literally silenced her.

But yeah its shouting on twitter thats the real problem to be fair.

There you go then, cunts can probably afford to pay their staff more.
