I know very little about Northern Ireland politics, but why did Sylvia Hermom decide not to contest the 2019 election? And what do people make of her?

To me,she seems not too bad a politician despite being anti-Corbyn. She has a better voting record on welfare benefits than most Liberal Democrats. Voted for nationalised railways and greater public control of bus services but against higher taxes on plane tickets.

She really tore into the Tories over Brexit, but was she little more than the Jo Swinson of Northern Ireland? Most unionist MPs seem like US Republicans so maybe she looks progressive just next to them.
