That's very true, I do think 'iconoclastic free thinker' is his self image though, even if that isn't borne out by his tendency to regurgitate large chunks of whatever he's immersed himself in that month. For someone who claimed to hate the manipulations of the mass media, every single contrived culture war story was like catnip to him, irresistibly drawn to pick a side every time

I mean he wasn't wrong with some of it like Labour smears but I think it shows you how destructive that environment can be and that's just turning to cynicism for everything actually leaves you open to manipulation. A lot of the pull of Brexit is IMHO getting people to make that definite commitment that they feel they can't back down on without damaging there ego, hence stuff like the WASPI woman convinced Brexit would help her in the other thread.

I think you're right, he did have good instincts on a quite a few things, but like many people who have had Brexit break their brain, their whole perspective becomes curdled and they become too invested in either consistently adhering to or consistently countering a certain narrative in a way that just pushes them to the centre right. I do wonder what Biggy's breaking point with Corbyn was, and I can only imagine it was Brexit related, probably the Labour proposal of a second referendum

mr. logic

He's stopped been funny on twitter too, which is a shame given how humorous he could be on here

Glebe

Who knew a sweet little monkey could be so alt-right?

Whether or not you think he's a nobhead, this gossipy shit about his Twitter is lame.

Eight Taiwanese Teenagers

Thank you everyone for your warm wishes.

There is one person gone missing and looking back at their last few posts it's rather troubling, with a couple of posts hinting that they were on some pretty serious cancer treatment, before their posts end completely.

"im barry bethel" - if you're out there please let us know you're ok.

Small Man Big Horse

I miss Zomgmouse, I know he's been ridiculously busy with a new show, but wish he was back posting here.

Good night sweet princes.

I know Bored Of Canada is alive and well as he recently posted on Facebook (though I wish he'd return too) and Dead Kate Moss is back here with a new name.

Checked in just this Monday:

...

So there you go, drop that account a PM and you never know...

Ah, I wonder if it's the same person, given that it's a name from Brass Eye that anyone could have used.  I'll PM and ask.

I don't think that self-assessment would be unfair though. I disagreed with much of what he said, but I've never come across anyone online less susceptible to group think and knee jerk tribalism. Also very good on small animals.

Just because he disagreed with some of the consensus here doesn't mean that he wasn't susceptible to groupthink. Much of his stuff was half-digested bits and bobs from other parts of the net. There's a few people here who think they're iconoclasts because they don't agree with some aspect of the broad consensus on here but they almost always have bought into some wider culture war shit that exists elsewhere. Very few original thinkers here or anywhere really. Most people are just regurgitating the last article/youtube video/podcast they consumed. There's some specific people here, and Biggy was one of them, where if you were familiar with the general drift of the discourse in certain segments of social media or the wider internet, then you knew what angle they'd have on any given development.

Who was that guy with Bobby Hill holding a cup of coffee avatar? I hope he's doing okay. And the lad on the brink of homelessness, I remember offering to wire him a few quid for his rent a couple of years ago. Shit like that makes me sad.

I remember the first one but can't remember their name unfortunately. As for the second, well there's been a number of people who that's happened to sadly, but you didn't mean El Nombre, did you?

Yeah I hate that as well. I've sent people a few quid over the years because I remember how shite it was being broke.

Yeah. I've spent the last 5 months watching Paul Joseph Watson videos while quietly nodding.

I'm here to drink deep from the well of Soycialist tears on December 13th. Or run away for another 6 months if Corbyn somehow flukes it.

I wouldn't bother. You'll still have to pay more tax unless you sell up.
