But Johnson doubles down: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/dec/02/boris-johnson-denounced-for-politicising-london-bridge-attack

What a total cunt.

"wanting terrorists locked up" = "agenda of hate"

actually, quite a few people would like to debate that assumption, as well as the logic in automatically releasing terrorists halfway through their sentence, and we don't need the approval of the victims family, who for the record has spent the days since he son's death tweeting anti-tory rhetoric

So - turns out you were lying about the US "buying" the NHS - let's hope that message get's through in time for the vote next week

RIDDLE ME THIS

Trump and Johnson can only tell the truth (of course!!), while Labour can only lie (the bastards!!). If you want to know if the Tories will deregulate medicine to ensure economic growth at the expense, suffering and death of the most vulnerable society, what do you ask each of them?

Of course Paulie's schtick rests on whether you think someone is stupid enough to think "selling the NHS" means that the entire institution would be sold, with a big price tag hanging off every hospital, and paid for with little bags of cash with dollar signs on. Not that certain areas of it such as drugs supply would be open up to private enterprise and profiteering.

I like to think no one is really that dumb.

It's to do with all the drugs we use in the UK, Paulie. You see, US pharma companies want to sell their drugs to the NHS at a higher price, around 2-3 times what we pay for them now. Currently, we can get good deals due to a thing called NICE (that stands for National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) which determines what the NHS is prepared to pay. They can do this because of the NHS's huge purchasing powers, aka "We'll decide how much to pay for our lots and lots of drugs thank you"). Now, because the UK is a "pricing reference country" (which means other countries look at what we pay and will refuse to pay more), if the US companies can get more money for their drugs from us, that means they can charge more to other countries, and thus make more money.

There are no doubt other areas where american companies would like to make money from our NHS, but the drugs are the main concern right now. Because you see, if the NHS have to pay 2-3 times more for expensive medicines and drugs then they might not be able to get all the drugs and medicines they need to keep us all from becoming too unwell.

They are. I had to explain what the "NHS is for sale" thing really means today, when people in the office were discussing how unlikely that seemed.

Unless it's another joke - like his Andrew Neil fuck up zinger!

Really weird to think that right this very second Donald Trump is bare-arsed farting on Boris Johnson's naked cock, isn't it.

Seems to have been deleted now. What did it say?

The 2nd paragraph of a LibDem tweet said the only way to assure we don't leave the EU is vote LibDem, which he replied to, calling it a lie.

DrGreggles

He was talking about voting tactically to get the Tories out.
LD heavily implied that he was endorsing them and he replied telling them otherwise.

LD tweet was deleted.

After this absurdly patient explanation of something that a brain-damaged newt should be able to comprehend, may I suggest something please?

If the troll pretends not to understand this or outright ignores it, can we all agree that he's not worth communicating with and draw a line under it all?

There surely has to be a point where we all just pop him in the bin.

Zetetic

It's not even just about pharma. US companies are already major providers of NHS-funded direct "care" in some parts of the health services, and are already engaged in battles with both healthcare and markets regulators; they will not fail to lobby to maintain and expand their position.

QuoteA former head of counter-terrorism has said cuts to police numbers, not the length of sentences, have played the greater role in jeopardising public safety.

Robert Quick, who led Scotland Yard's counter-terrorism command from 2008-9, rejected claims made by Boris Johnson after last Friday's attack at London Bridge in which a terrorist killed two people before being shot dead by police.

The prime minister had sought to blame the Labour government, which left power in 2010, for Usman Khan being free. He was jailed over a terrorist plot in 2012 and released in December last year, halfway through his sentence, under tough conditions but without checks as to his suitability.

However, Quick said on Tuesday that the fight against terrorism had been damaged by large reductions made to police funding by the Conservative government since 2010.

"In the 2000s the police worked hard to rebuild neighbourhood policing, with a clear local presence, with staff who were visible and accessible," he said. "A lot of that has been cut back heavily.

"These are the eyes and ears of the counter-terrorism efforts. It is the foundation stone of security and counter-terrorism and has been broken up in the last 10 years."...

And/or the drugs budget increasingly eats into staff, equipment and maintenance budgets.  And from there it's not hard to conceive a situation where the NHS can no longer afford to provide even a semblance of the services required.  Then the private healthcare companies can move in and make the case that they can do better, as long as people are required to purchase their lucrative healthcare insurance products.

His team will know how many PVs there are in total and will be able to estimate the swing based on the canvassing. I think that's all that's going on there.

Probably. Wouldn't put something more sinister past them though.

you know when people say "you couldn't make it up" and it just sounds like something made up

this is a rare exception of something more farcical than fiction

to be fair, it sounds like something I'd do
