"Everything but Brexit" CH4 election debate 6:30pm

QuoteSenior figures from the Lib Dems, Labour, the SNP, Plaid Cymru and the Green Party will answer questions in front of an audience of undecided voters.

But there's a twist - participants will only be able to discuss - and there's a clue in the title - Everything but Brexit. It airs at 18:30.

Of course the Tories are trying to use Channel 4 as an example to any other media outlets who dare to be critical of them, so that is why they won't attend.

colacentral

No one watching?

Angela Rayner is killing it on this, putting Swinson in her place and delivering a few home truths. "They don't want a free bagel."

Swinson crumbling, audience on her back. Got called out for being a Tory in disguise. It's fucking great. Shame no fucker will be watching it.

colacentral

Just finished. Rayner was outstanding throughout, the clear winner.

Mr_Simnock

Sounds like a great result, Rayner there very likely converting some undecideds just before the big day. I am convinced that all the polling lot are totally overestimating the lib-dem vote share and performances like that from swinshit will certainly change quite a lot of minds of those THINKING of voting for them this time round instead of say Labour.

jobotic

Didn't see this unfortunately.

Imagine Gavin FUCKING Williamson or Angela Rayner as education secretary. We have so much to lose.

It's a beautiful thing when somebody chimes completely with you politically. And when that person is as attractive as Angela Rayner adoration can easily set in. I'm not objectifying or being sexist, I'm completely in love with a greying bearded man in his 70's too.

holyzombiejesus

I think Pancreas expressed doubts about Rayner. Can't quite remember but thin she's not to be particularly trusted unfortunately. There was a piece in The Guardian recently where they stated the Labour leadership expected the 4 main frontrunners for leader after JC goes, to be Starmer, Clive Lewis, Long-Bailey and ... Jess Phillips. Surprised Rayner wasn't on the list.

Everyone on the left seems to be rather foxy; Angela Rayner, Ash Sarkar, the people of CaB...

Starmer is obviously the biggest threat to the socialist project of those 4 given he is very capable and generally trusted among the public (despite the fact he is the Brexit Secretary of a party who the public don't like the Brexit policy of). He is handy at the dispatch box and could carry people with him. I have a funny feeling he is about as left wing as Kenneth Clarke though.

Long-Bailey would be an unusual choice. Not because she is unlikable or an incapable person, far from it. There is a potential chance she could be Britain's equivalent 'young female leader' and Labour should elect a female leader sooner rather than later. I wonder if she has the relevant gravitas and I wonder given Labour are much more appealing to women anyway whether that would be useful

Phillips, regardless of strengths, weaknesses or the fact she's a fucking gobshite cunt is a backseat driver not an actual driver. It would on a personal level be hilarious watching her fail after spending so long sniping from the sidelines, but Labour need to win.

Clive Lewis, now there's someone who is quick on his feet, less baggage than Corbyn, clearly dynamic and definitely some more crossover appeal to the knobhead liberal media and their spoonfed reactionary audience. Might get some votes just from gammons trying to prove 'I'm not racist I voted Black Man' like Obama did first time out.

holyzombiejesus

I think everyone on the left is a bit tight on Starmer. He does reek of centrism but he's been very loyal to Corbyn, moreso than Clive Lewis. Hopefully there won't need to be a leadership election for a while anyway.

pancreas

I have long since lost faith in Lewis. Rayner>Lewis.

That settles it then: BARRY GARDINER

"Why are you sweating and I'm not?"

That's the sort of shade we need to cut through the bullshit.

From The Guardian summary:
QuoteSwinson explicitly admitted her coalition government had broken a promise on election fees, but said the last time she lied was "about how many chocolate biscuits were in the tin" to her son, a joke which fell rather flat.

At least she can do a Lembit Opik if it doesn't work out.

KennyMonster

Yeah Lewis was all too quick to swallow AS smears rather than defend the party IIRC. He'll concede to the right's narrative just like Ed did.

pancreas

Rayner was good on the AS stuff.

My concern about her is more than I can imagine her going soft on vested interests. Maybe I'm wrong.

Glorious. That should be what every lying Tory shit has to hear in all media appearances.

I liked the laugh out loud that can be heard when Dom is talking shite.

Lemsip Optiks I call him.

Pidcock leader, Rayner deputy would be the dream for me, running more as co-leaders than the traditional thing. Long-Bailey comes across as slightly detached, to me. Gardner's great to me personally but I think most people would think he's a psycho.

I too feel that Clive Lewis is too soft. He wouldn't be strong enough to resist caving if threatened with resignations or bogus anti-semitism claims. He'd have been there in 2008 saying "yes it appears you're right Mr. Cameron, we spent all the money."

kitsofan34

Pidcock doesn't want it though does she? Corbyn and McDonnell want Bailey, for whatever reason.

pigamus

Bailey with Starmer deputy, maybe? I could well live with that.

Maybe not, but she should. She's leagues ahead of anyone else.

ZoyzaSorris

We need Pidders (when Corbs stands down as PM in 2024 obvs)

I agree, she's far and away the best one on offer. Not that we're gonna need it come Friday!!!!

Rayner was good in this, just the right level of aggression.

imitationleather

It'd be pretty terrible if L-Pidz lost her seat.

'Pidders' might be losing her seat.

On an almost 9000 majority I find that pretty unlikely.

She was fucking excellent. Labour have got so many people who would obviously be extremely capable in government while the Tories have a bunch of not just cunts but stupid, inept cunts.
