pancreas

fundamentally all we are doing is trying to make some stupid people do the right thing, aren't we?

That's what we're doing.

I realise that sounds like shite, but that's what we're actually doing.

Isn't it?

pancreas

I know this sounds like a load of fucking toss rag but maybe there's some kernel of stupid well-trodden truth in it.

Should we, for example on doorstep, be treating all this like: 'don't put your head int' oven, or your head'll get burned'

It's that fucking level.

Fuck me this country is stuffed full of some absolute morons.

Sadly nail on head. But this stupidity and selfishness took hold long before we were sentient

He's right but that disregard for uneducated people andccommodification of their vote is Tory as fuck. You get nowhere by telling people they're morons if they don't do what you want.

That's stupid. I am all for spreading the word but you have to respect people if you want them on your side - otherwise you're just using them. The opposition might well do the same but if you lower yourself, you're just playing politics. I find there's a pretty grim tone to some of the chat on here which adds up to 'we know best so steamroll the mouth breathers into doing what we want'. The ends might actually justify the means in the short term but if that's how you begin, how low will you go to get the votes you want?

This is not at all criticising canvassing and doorstepping. It's criticising a lack of basic respect for people who might not know what's up like you're so sure you do.

Simply, I'm saying have some basic fucking respect for the people you're trying to win over.

If you can't handle it, fuck yourself off to China, cunto!!!

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

I would concur with that. There's some threads on here where even the title is written in a nasty manner, and I'm not naming names, but basically anything politically motivated (scan through the first two or three pages of general bullshit, you know which ones). I know it's the internet, and it's kind of a microcosm of society and your emotions get heightened to the extent where you're insulting people based purely on their age, race, even where they live (don't put your head int' oven? Fuck off with that patronising shit) but I honestly thought this place was better than that.

I think Britain, like everywhere, like here, is stuffed with a diverse and marvelous spectrum of everything.  There are bears of little brain and there are those that think mighty smart and in all sorts of boggling directions, there are beastly ones and angels and all the winged creatures in between.

A panoply of genes, an infinite scale of experience, influence and hardwired Pavlovian response.  Don't judge it, just love it and give it the best options and advice you have.  And understand that you too are somewhere in the mix, not apart.  All of us part of all the shit and glory.  Even when you're tired and you think you've had enough.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

I had to look up what panoply meant.

QuoteBoris Johnson's father, Stanley, has been criticised for appearing to suggest the British public is illiterate.
In an appearance on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire show, the 79-year-old was told that one viewer had called his son "Pinocchio". Johnson replied: "Pinocchio? That requires a degree of literacy which I think the Great British public doesn't necessarily have."

Yeah, nobody's likely to change their vote if they catch that whiff of condescension.

There undoubtedly are many people whose votes are based on their own credulity or simple prejudices, and how to convince them or persuade them differently without insulting them is one of the great questions of this or any age. But there are also many people who vote the way they do based on real experiences or strong feelings and winning them over is a different matter and equally challenging. I know I'm not the one who can answer the question of how.

Pancreas out canvassing, yesterday

Cerys

How are the math men and women voting this year, panc? Quite a lot of them seem to support remaining, though I don't know if that translates either to "I'm voting Labour" or "I'm Lib Dem and hate Magic Grandpa".

Saw one Trumpy one (British) but, again, don't know how that carries over to their views on British politics.

Panco are you out with us on Friday? CELEBRATION (also pool)

Why don't you stop trolling for five minutes?

Pancs has worked unbelieveably hard for all of us, everyone's allowed to get tired and frustrated and let off a little steam, especially when they've put all the effort in he undeniably has.  So button it the fuck up.  What have you done to help?

I'm not trolling. I just happen to think that CaB's Pancreas is a posh cunt who despises the working class. Why is he canvassing for Labour? Don't know. Probably fashionable in his line of work.

Legitimate concerns, you gotta respect them, you just have to.

What's fashionable in your line of work?  I think it's pretty clear.

I don't know if it's fashionable or not, got no yardstick, but in my line of work we call a cunt a cunt.  And you're being a cunt.

You try knocking in Middlebrough South.

It's a certain nexus of ignorance, callousness, gullibility and weakness that is necessary to create a Tory voter there. You need all of these qualities; three out of four won't be enough.

'I am voting for Boris Johnson, because I want to GET BREXIT DONE.'

This actually works on some people. How can you not despise someone when they say something like that? It's not about the working class, not at all, it's about Tory voters.

They should just do what I tell them. Some of them will, fortunately. Not enough.

chveik

pancreas said nothing that could indicate that the people he's talking about are working class.

Why aye's that then, bonny lad?

Shoulders?-Stomach!

I snapped and reacted to some FPBE middle-shot who called working class Tory voters thick.

Ultimately that attitude has not helped convert them and repeating what you repeated in 2016 is not going to result in a different response.

Being baffled as to why someone has a different opinion to you requires willingness on your part (and that of the other person) to explore why.

Pancreas has actually been doing that so he can be excuses this world weary howl at humanity.

'Claret communism' is my best attempt.

We'll get drunk on cheap wine anyway.
