What deal could Johnson negotiate that would be acceptable to his supporters, many of whom seem to favour a no deal?

A trade deal with discounted flights and Fosters in Majorca, in exchange for allowing European people to visit without having to go through the "EURO-TRASH THROW PIES AT THEM" section in Heathrow?

interesting to see are poorly actually have a position looking beyond "the current situation is fine". let's quote this in a couple of years eh

1. Any serious examination our #Brexit trade negotiations suggests the UK is playing silly buggers and was never sincere about a deal and we're just going through the motions to pretend we tried. The headbangers have won. So now it's for them to explain what comes next.

Oh, poorly, you're in for big surprise.

The disaster capitalists in charge of your party care no more for you than they do for us lefties and no amount of forelock tugging will change that.

The tories plan to crash the UK out of the EU so they can scrap all those pesky workplace and environmental protections that limit our ability to compete with countries where those are less of a concern. I predict that there'll be a second wave of Covid-19 infections in September/October necessitating a second lockdown and a couple of months later, they'll be able to blame all the negative economic effects of a hard brexit on that. And you will believe them.

Of course, they'll be fine and it amazes me to see the still unshakeable faith of people like yourself as the hard right elite openly do as they please and set about creating their two tier system in which they will have their ability to travel around the EU sorted while they encourage you to fetishise your worthless blue identity booklet.

Excellent post.

Im quite happy to blame the fbpe cunts quoted in that article for the hopeless mess this country is in

Uncle TechTip

It's all about removing employee protections which we would have kept for a period until another negotiation as per May's deal, which was mainly scuppered by brexiteers. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/nov/14/theresa-mays-brexit-deal-everything-you-need-to-know

It's not an uncommon stance to take - I've read plenty of responses to the Tory's handling of Covid on the lines of "Corbyn is to blame for being so shit, so we had to vote for Boris".

Less than six months to go but...

QuoteThe Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) is intended to allow export trucks to declare goods ahead of reaching the border, allowing for smoother traffic flow, particularly at busier ports such as Dover.

However, HMRC has yet to begin the build of the IT system, MPs have been told, by the head of EU Exit at the Port of Dover. "We're still at the stage of making sure the definition and the specification of the system is correct so it's built with a fighting chance of doing what it's needed to do."

The customs system upgrade for greatly increased capacity and other changes due to Brexit has also yet to be completed.

Apparently, the French have got their side of the system up-and-running, so one option would be to license it from them: https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2020/06/26/the-french-ports-are-ready-for-brexit-we-havent-even-started-as-yet/

It would be hilarious if we ended up paying more than our EU membership on software licences allowing us to trade with the EU.

Can't we get some misfit genius eugenicists to use data modelling or something?

idunnosomename

Why cant we just get it done? Just get it done!

QuoteThe cost of household staples, ranging from meat and cheese to school uniforms and drinking glasses, will substantially increase if there is no Brexit trade deal, British retailers have warned.

With just six months to go before the UK leaves the EU entirely by exiting the single market and the European customs union, retailers fear further damage to a sector already reeling from the coronavirus crisis, with 5,600 job losses announced on Thursday from Boots and John Lewis alone.

In a report on the prospect of a no-deal Brexit, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) said the public should be aware that no deal will mean a hike in the prices of not just luxury goods but "ordinary household goods that every consumer has to buy and replenish"...

So you get right to the end of this and then it says

"Alternatively, the EU could grant temporary market access to UK hauliers for nine months, but this was "not a sustainable, long-term solution", Ms Laouadi said."

Meaning they might STILL keep kicking the can down the road. It's particularly annoying when the Brexiteers keep saying "The EU always blinks!" and then they sort of do. How can we deal with the shit hitting the fan if they keep moving the fan?

QuoteIn terms of  total contribution, in raw numbers, Ireland will contribute about sixteen billion euros net to the European Union – making us the fifth biggest single contributor, while Spain and Italy, countries with many times our population, will actually benefit to the tune of about a hundred and thirty billion euros between them.

It's absolutely not true that HRMC 'are yet to begin' the build of the system. There's already one in place and upgrades and enhancements to it are very much underway. NDAs prevent me from saying much more about this, but everything that could possibly be done to facilitate goods movement is being done.

All those things except the last one which is replaced by

Corbyn jailed for crimes against Britain
Death penalty brought back for treason
Purge of left wing socialists begins
CaB shut down and we're all carted off to the gallows, except Paulie - who is the hangman.

idunnosomename

That can be part two of his 2012 REBORN trilogy. In part 3 everyone is gentically modified to look and act like Tony Blair. We are all adults now.

More likely than "Brexit has to be postponed" is "This fucking Government presses on with Brexit regardless of how badly fucked the country is going to end up."
