I assume we must have a fair few producers/musicians on here, I would love to hear anything you've made that's up on youtube/soundcloud/bandcamp etc.

Some of my mediocre offerings are up on the soundcloud below, mostly downtempo/psychedelic/chill out type stuff with a few more hectic ones mixed in

(I hope this doesn't come across as shameless self-promotion as that's not how I intended it)

I was under the impression that if your stuff is available for free Neil is happy for people to share their creativity.

Enjoying these chilled out tracks, spectrum

Neil closed the last thread because it was full of Bandcamp albums that, as 'pay what you want', were borderline crossing the 'no selling' rule. I don't really agree with that myself but get where he's coming from, so I'd probably recommend sticking to Soundcloud / YouTube / etc. rather than Bandcamp.

Anyway, here are a couple of recentish tracks of mine on my Audius page. Mostly vaguely ambient I suppose.

It's not a Baritone! It's a proper six bass, tuned like a guitar, Shergold Marathon 6, Hooky used one. I had one 1988, 170 quid, sold it for 180 1992, regretted it, bought that one 2/3 years ago - 1200 quid. Hooky sold his recently for 15k! Going price now is a bout 4k...

PlanktonSideburns

sorry, mines a bass also, always call it a baritone for some reason

Think baritones are a fifth down. As Peter Hook found out in NY when is Shergold was nicked and hired a Fender Baritone, tuned it like a guitar, snapped three strings and nearly took an eye out, as we all fear......

PlanktonSideburns

what you got yours tuned to? my burns seems happiest 2 steps up from bass e, tuned like a guitar. down to E it sounds a bit muddy, not so guitaristic

Ah, I was looking for the "post your music thread", but couldn't find it. Here's a pretty cool music video someone made for one of my old crew's jovial "gangsta rap" tracks. It's pretty danceable, and the amateur video enhances the fun. The lyric is basically just us bragging about running the local drug trade, the cops in our pockets, and our ties to the Russian mob:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZlJ8qLqJng

I posted this track before with a "quiz" element, challenging people to identify the tracks sampled. I can now reveal that the bass line is from Jane's Addiction's "Mountain Song" and the piano riff is from The Stones' "We Love You", whereas the rhythm track is stitched together from a few different things, including a drum fill from Deep Purple's "Flight Of The Rat".

Here's a more musically satisfying track from around the same time. Another jolly, danceable thing, but a folk instrumental this time. No video, but I've tagged all my soundclouds with nice individual art:

I posted this in the dentist thread, because it's about dentistry and it's called "Dentist". Don't see any harm in posting it again here, though It's also something of a lost solo single, as I wrote it on a drum machine and recorded it on a mate's studio time, with him singing lead vocals. I've been in a couple of bands, and I've a stack of FruityLoops demos like "Milipedes" (some a little more fleshed out than that), but I've not done a lot of recording of my own stuff. I'm most pleased about the hastily arranged backing vocals, with (I like to think) an almost Queen-like moment leading into the last verse.

https://soundcloud.com/bruno-faetten/tannlege-1/s-m0pmP

I actually play a baritone guitar on this too, though I don't recall the make. My bass playing friend was mad about his for a while.

PlanktonSideburns

fuck is everyone on this form a bass vi player from southwales?

That's really nice, I'm liking the trend of non-English singers finally being heard on these boards.

dallasman

Another guessing game, and sort of the b-side to "Tannlege". Anyone with some taste should be able to identify the marimba theme, but can you name the drum sample?

https://soundcloud.com/bruno-faetten/august/s-i8VV8

The lyrics go

the sugar men are taking over
it won't be long now
a matter of weeks
not long now, not long
now

soap and butter
dead animals in free fall

if you choose the lesser of two evils, the greater evil is always after you

Pretty spooky, huh? But can you name those two tunes? You will have to listen to the song, but it's just two minutes long, including the dentist's drill at the end.

dallasman

More good mood music, you can all bookmark these for later. This is called "Simpleton", and I wrote in on my grandma's piano:

You'd have to be some kind of sourpuss not to tap your toe to that.

Prog Rock Live On Stage! This is "MBD", a little something I cooked up from stray bits floating around the rehearsal space:

Digging your "Luminous Spores", and now "Slipping". I'm so stuck in my ways, I never listen to music like this (closest would be occasional Ozrics and Tangerine Dream, I guess), and wouldn't really know how to make it, but I have made a couple of stabs at approaching the genre. Guess I just need to learn some software that makes things sound good and smooth like your stuff, and some of the other electronic offerings I've heard from people here before.

dallasman

Here's the Norwegian-language Smiths cover I teased in another thread:

https://soundcloud.com/bruno-faetten/hustad-sangen-hustad-leir-1997/s-Cn2nx

There's a very long, rather interesting backstory to the song, but again, the main point of interest is the harmony vocals. There hardly ever were any on Smiths records, and yet, I like singing along to records sometimes, and I found myself doing harmonies with Morrissey a lot for a while. I am not a singer of any description, but I think this gets the point across, and might be a good idea for a folk duo covering the original version, perhaps?

dallasman

OK, last one. Punk Rock Live On Stage. 14 year old dallasman & mates tear it up in front of visiting Boy Scouts from England. Two chords and some 'tude. Pure "My Generation" ripoff, but at the time I thought I was ripping off Pink Floyd's "Reaction in G" (Rotterdam '67 version).

^ I'd be interested to see if anyone has anything older to offer than that, which is from 19fucking90. Don't let me hog the thread here, because I have mountains of stuff. Not meant as a threat, obviously. Merry Christmas, music people!
