How could I forget one of my favorites - Jean Gabin.... I also think Anna Magnani was great.. A force to be reckon with. She was always wise, and had a funny way of exposing bullshit with a flippant, cynical, or comedic line, along with her sarcastic smile. Setsuko Hara was predictable, but I loved her constant, eternal smile.

I love Mifune but as I've grown I think I prefer Takashi Shimura out of Kurosawa's regulars. Mifune often plays Mifune-types, brooding warriors able to rage, but Shimura disappears fully into a wider range of roles.

Bruno Ganz is a pretty obvious choice and I'm glad toward the end he crossed over to a wider audience. Incredible range, and able to switch between character and leading man in a selfless way. Googling him now just led me to this interesting wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iffland-Ring
