SPONGLERS

Saw this because it has good reviews and I like Greta Gerwig.

Found it boring and sanctimonious for the first half. Lots of people just being unambiguously good and moral and not complaining about it, boring. Then I was blindsided by the death - the dream bit really affected me, it felt really real (in the sense of how sad dreams are really like that). And the complex relationship stuff was good without offering easy absolute answers, culminating in a surprise meta finale I enjoyed. Liked the time skipping too, created lots of interesting contrasts.

Never read the book. Found a copy on the shelf afterwards and skimmed through it. Seems to be one of those novels where characters never say anything but instead "grumble" or "exclaim" them. Put it back.

Not much insight from me in this post. Sorry. Just wanted to see if anyone else clapped eyes on it.
