& K9

Is that Dr Who's robot dog K9, or is it also the name of a rapper or something?

Pauline Walnuts

I like that Billie Elish one.

Wonder if that's the side effect of my mid-life crisis?

Top idea, daf. I can now keep up to date with what the pop crazed youngsters are listening to while simultaneously plowing my way through all of the 1970s episodes thanks to that big bastard link you posted in the other thread. Never knew that Mud made a disco record.

Dr Who's robot dog - Just a bit of imaginary fun!

(I picture John Leeson crouching with a lip-mic just off camera, interjecting a pithy "Affirmative" or "Negative" into Al's introductions)

(5) 'DANCE MONKEY' - TONES & I

My kids like this one after hearing it at their friends' house.

We have since broken off all contact with those people.

Could be another "Tones" group in the charts next week by the look of things.

Though not sure how I-Tune downloads will be correlated in the modern day chart.

daf, you will probably just need to put the links in the OP in a different order each week because I think these Top Tens will be fairly static. Maybe one new entry per week.

"Own It" is the 1362nd official No. 1 as listed by Wikipedia.

I had considered making it by strict Top of the Pops rules :

1. Only feature songs going up the charts
2. No songs to be repeated two weeks in a row, except for . . .
3. The Number 1 is always included.

But I found that EVERY song in the Top 10 was going up - probably due to post-Christmas 'bounce-back' or something - so I decided to make it into the Top 10 countdown - It's just a work-in-progress at the moment.

What I might do is include the 'breakers' section in the middle - to introduce the new entries & highlight any interesting acts that'd otherwise get missed.

Fucking hell, Stormzy has done a track with Ed Sheeran? Desolation indeed. I guess 'I Love Sausage Rolls' has exited the top 10.

He's done at least two, 'Take Me Back To London' was also #1 earlier in the year.

I liked the Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa ones so I can now safely assume I'm not the waning apathetic husk I thought I was. My weary arthritic fingers are also now stabbing the keyboard on my personal computer one letter at a time to painstakingly bring you my glad  observation that THE RE IS NO AUTOTUNE O N ANY OF THESSE

LOVE DAD X (oh no that was something else)

Johnboy

I'm getting to like Roxanne, my son is caning it (against my will, which is how it should be)

As the new Top Ten has seven repeats from last week, rather than just post the top 10 again with three new songs, i've applied the TOTP rules in coming up with tonight's "show".

TOTP RULES
1. No songs get shown two weeks in a row * (for the exception : see rule 3)
2. No songs get shown that are going down the chart
3. The Number 1 is always included

So, based on that, with three of last weeks songs being non-movers, and another three going down the chart, I've replaced those with the highest climbers.

I'm also including a 'breakers' section to highlight the new entries - that way, every song in the TOP 40 will get covered at least once.

To see what kind of pig's ear I've made of this, tune in at 7:30pm tonight!

To show how crazy the charts are right now, this week's highest climber into the Top 10 has been in the Top 100 for 54 weeks already.

You'd need a new rule stating no climbers that are more than 20 weeks old, as there are tons of them this week due to Xmas tracks dropping out and people streaming Best of 2019 playlists.

No wonder kids are all depressed these days, the most uplifting of that lot features a bunch of young people dancing around an apocalyptic wasteland.

Just been looking at the list.
The 1248th was 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams 6 years ago.
That's the most recent one I've heard of.

Some of the breakers are really old tracks so the chart is going in a circles at this point

daf

Yeah, the problem is that everything is 'new' to me at this point - having not seen a top 40 for the last 15 years. Hopefully, once I get a handle on the current "scene", I'll be able to weed the obvious oldies out.

(That Halsey track was listed as being only 1 week on the charts - so I thought I was safe with that one!)

jamiefairlie

This feels like Champ Manager when you play so far into the future that all the real players have retired and you only have computer generated ones left.

daf, I should stress that no criticism of you was implied above. I was simply bemoaning the fact that old tracks are bouncing back up and crowding out genuine breakers.
