FUN CORNER

True or false? When Enoch Powell gave up fox-hunting, Scruton bought his hunting clothes off him.

Buelligan

Only so he could wear them whilst staring at women not playing with their clitorides.

... found some value in Scruton's observations about traditional vs. modern architecture when I encountered them a couple of years ago.

Well more fool you - because his observations about this (and, of course, other more important things) were glib, self-satisfied, OPINIONS, which almost anyone with any actual knowledge of the subject could tell you were stupid in almost every way.

Of course, if they were given and received as opinions, no-one would bat an eyelid. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, no matter how trite. But the point is, he was held up as a great thinker, who was appointed to head a pointless government commission on the subject until he was rumbled as being too much of an arsehole even to work for THIS government.

If anyone's wondering whether this was pisspoor satire, it's actually true. Apparently Powell's jacket was too small for him and it split at the seams. What a nana.

There have been few bigger enemies to working-class and impoverished inner-city communities than architects.
