The mention of Cliff and grammar led onto me remembering this, by Clive James (from The Crystal Bucket):

QuoteA guest of Parkinson, Cliff Richard sang a song of his own composiion. "There's nothing left between we two," he warbled thinly.  Us were in luck.

'I like tall speakers.  I like small speakers...'

We get it.  He's not interested in anyone at the pre-lingual phase.

Yeah - that gorgeous analogue bass thump. I mean I know it's not to everyone's taste but I absolutely adore that sound.

Johnboy

Yes, it's great, it's 1981 as much as We Don't Talk Anymore was 1979, ...as in very (Carrie in the middle)

TheMonk

He'd have been knocked on his arse skating like that at my local community centre.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

Nobody seems to have ever done a decent cover of it, judging by a YouTube search. Well, we'll always have Shed Seven:

Julee Cruise  https://youtu.be/4DdY88ZWBjw

& some sort of vaporwave mess sampled it

Edit: that Darren Day cover was put up exactly five years ago to the day (ho ho) ...... 127 views.

Wired For Sound is the sort of thing they would play at an afternoon party in a hospice.

Wired for Sound was about Cliff realising that police had bugged his gaff with listening devices.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

What sort of cunt listens to music on AM radio anyway?

A very decent tune, probably kept BA Cunterson in neeps, tatties and Irn Bru for a good many years.

Genuine question. Why is/was he so cunty? I know he always came across as a bit full of himself, but - in The Giant Book of Folk That Know Their Way Round A Tune Who've Done Egregiously Terrible Things - he'd hardly warrant a mention, surely?

And I've sat through Living Apart Together ...

I have no beef with him, I'm just parroting Taylor Parkes' nickname for him after he was thoroughly coated down on Chart Music.

Chriddof

It's more to do with the naffness / smugness of a lot of his music than anything full-on bad. Also, there was the fact that his success appeared to have happened almost purely down to knowing the right people rather than off his talents. While I don't believe it's ever been confirmed, his first hit may have got the attention it did due to a chart-rigging scandal that happened around the late 70s / early 80s.

I think this is the same group of posters that secretly decided to troll us by pretending that Carly Rae Jepsen is brilliant. Don't trust them.

Cliffy Bastard released a hilarious Christmas single a few years ago about the kids on their phones with their social medias and shit. It's called Texting Jesus or something; CBA to look it up.

Also the bin contains some rats that fell victim to poison that was put down. By Paul Young.

Dewt

I won't mention the three very mainstream Paul Young songs that would leave a deep void in my soul if they were erased.

That's a wise choice, otherwise I'd have to get some of my best people on to you.

So you could say that if those songs were to go away, they'd take a piece of you with them?
