Yarp. Matt Pike might be a madman, or possibly just a bit of a tit (he's a big fan of David Icke, apparently) but he's a god damned genius with a guitar. To whit: The Black Plot To woo: Marijuanaut's Theme

Stoner/desert rock and it's related subgenres have never let me down for great riffs. Kyuss were top of the pile for a long time, but I've lately found myself favouring Fu Manchu - King of the Road being a good one.

I recently discovered Red Fang. Their "We drink loads of beer!" schtick wears thin after a few videos, but their rockability remains strong: Prehistoric Dog

That riff is just fucking laconic, laid back cool in music form.


For those with more metallic taste, Vogg of Decapitated is worthy of your attention. I've never heard a riffer with more precision and he's really dialled up the Pantera-like groove to his playing in the last decade or so.
