Bazooka

I think the price should include, but the licence can only be paid with bone marrow.

Annie Labuntur

But what exactly is the TV licence?

Well, it's something to do with Smithy and Nessa.

Ah, I see! But what is local news?

That's easy! It's the news that's local to you.

Flatulent Fox

Lying BBC.
They never had working scanning vans - that was just made up and really relied on snitches or dumb luck.

Now they claim they have WIFI scanner vans. The dirtbags sitting in them downloading high definition porn - at the tax payer's expense no doubt!

£3 a year = 8p per day, I've paid more than that for a cup of coffee

Do you mean 0.8p a day?

Flatulent Fox

No pay no tv license.

Won't happen though, will it? Best guess, it's one of those worst-case-scenarios that gets leaked just so the crony they actually give it to looks reasonable by comparison.

So Rebekah Brookes then?

I had a row with a sort of still mate on the weekend. He said he was cancelling the BBC because he was fed up with the Bias and Bull of the corporation. He got all angry when I asked him that maybe he should consider his thinking, that of not being affected by bias and wanting only impartial news etc, after I told him where he might have gotten in the habit of  frequently using words such as, libtard, liberal, snowflake and leftist et al. My mate is a trained Pilot so he can't be thick, simply misguided.

Don't know what this little bit of tittle tattle brings to the conversation, outside of a modicum of catharsis for me... Let's add a bit more relief... My mate is a stupid cunt for ranting along to the Jeremy Vine show.

I have a lot of issues with current BBC output, but scrapping it is A Bad Idea, IMO.

I like this comment on the twitter: "Puppet mouthpiece sockets funded by Right wing billionaires call for end to  investigation by independent state broadcaster".

It'd be nice if the UK could stop disintegrating for a while.

yep and every supposedly left wing person  who says it's ok the bbc is being pulled apart because they didnt like the election coverage is a useful idiot for the tories.

Anyway 7 years is a long time away and a lot could happen by then.

The other side of that coin is putting up with a pro-establishment, pro-tory mouthpiece that is staffed with friends of the torys and is capable of shaping mainstream thought.

It's almost as if 'every supposed left wing person' can't win for losing on this issue.

So why do Dominic Cummings and Boris and Murdoch and Farage and that cunt who funds him hate the BBC so much then?

(I know they all pretend to be anti establishment but still).

Why do the right hate it so much and want it gone?  If it's a mouthpiece for them why are they trying to hurt it? Why was Cummings planning this shit back in 2004 in his right wing think tank?  Why is it constantly under attack for being "lefty propaganda"?

Why are the cabinet not going on the supposedly right wing today programme if it's all so cosy and establishment?

And news coverage aside the a lot of other stuff they make is still a higher quality and better value for money than youd get elsewhere. You'd pay  more for less without the license fee.

Useful idiots who dont pay the license fee or want the bbc gone because theyve been drip fed poison about Laura kussenberg are in the long term denying lonely pensioners the company of radio 4 or their local station and disabled kids mister tumble. Sky, itv or bauer media are not gonna fill that gap because it's not commercially viable.

Anyway I find it ridiculous that I'm defending the bbc on a chris Morris forum. The tories have wiped out most of our industries already so I dont particularly want our entertainment industry to be destroyed too.

BlodwynPig

Entertainment industry you say?

Right wing people don't like the idea of state broadcasting because they want to profit from broadcasting and want to control the media in a way private enterprise allows.

The stuff about the bbc having a leftie bias has always been bollocks, it's always been pro-establishment and economically conservative. Reationary's think otherwise because it's socially liberal.

It's a kids show.  My kids like the scary monsters in it. I'd rather they watched that than some American weirdo playing with toys on YouTube.

It was created by the bbc. Now some fans are unhappy with the bbc because they dont like the direction it's taken. Boo hoo. Maybe one day a "show runner" will come along and take it in a direction they'll like. Or maybe the whoheads will get their wish and a "US streaming giant" will buy it off the privatised bbc and move production to canada and all the people who make it in Wales will lose their job. But still at least some American billionaire will get rich instead of Chris chibnall making poor creative choices eh.

Alberon

The BBC has to be fought for. The British entertainment industry will be much poorer without it. Can you see ITV or a commercial BBC doing Doctor Who?

Dull as it is at the moment they wouldn't even be able to achieve that level.

I know.
And I dont want the government and their mates to control and profit from broadcasting in the way that private enterprise allows.

I dont want these cunts to totally control and own and dominate our media landscape. You think its bad now? Wait til the bbc is gone. The left should support it. It's like wanting the nhs gone because of some hospital scandal in a right wing tabloid.

Fighting for?

It produces nothing of real value compared to the halycon days of Bergerac, Dark Towers and Blankety Blank
