I know.
And I dont want the government and their mates to control and profit from broadcasting in the way that private enterprise allows.

I dont want these cunts to totally control and own and dominate our media landscape. You think its bad now? Wait til the bbc is gone. The left should support it. It's like wanting the nhs gone because of some hospital scandal in a right wing tabloid.

A noose is also supportive

No, it's like wanting the NHS gone because it promotes right-wing propaganda.

Reckon all the actual labour mps will be backing Cumming's plans to dismantle the Beeb then or just left wing people on social media who constantly over analyse every Laura Kussenberg tweet etc?

Nevermind. Once this publically owned British institution is gone I'm sure the thing that replaces it will be even less right wing!

Fighting for?

It produces nothing of real value compared to the halycon days of Bergerac, Dark Towers and Blankety Blank

Panorama often investigates important issues that the commercial media often ignore.

In fairness, that's all I can think of.

Despite cancelling my license fee, I do broadly support the idea of the bbc.
Listening to local bbc radio at work, however, it does seem rather ironic that the presenters who spent the past few years patronising and undermining the idea of British socialism, are now championing the very socialist pay structure that finances their organisation.

Like most right wing people they're fine with socialism, they just believe it's wasted on the poor.

How about socialists that avoid tax? How does that square with their values?

What tax would that be?

License Fee

So less a case of 'socialists avoiding tax' and more 'socialists refusing to pay a voluntary fee' then?

Or more accurately,  refusing to pay a voluntary fee because some of it is used to promote ideals that reward the rich and powerful enormously for committing crimes for which no laws have been passed.

If you want. Seems a bit libertarian to me.

Sebastian Cobb

Are there any other voluntary fees I should be paying? Perhaps you might like to use them as a basis for a 'no true scotsman' argument around socialism.

To be fair, a lot of money *is* actually wasted on the poor, who will probably spend it on drugs and Special Brew.

The main problem is that there is a system which just chucks taxpayers money - MY MONEY - at political solutions designed to make people popular, instead of actually helping people.

The model of the BBC as a publicly funded broadcaster is fundamentally socialist though, even if its output sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. When it's gone, what preferable model would it be replaced with, if any?

None. Zip. No entertainment. Just scratchy VHS tapes of Bergerac and Beasts, please

Why would it need replacing?

Because the alternative is to give the market over entirely to billionaire backed corporations with much more of an agenda than the BBC.

Fambo Number Mive

Having all broadcast TV, including broadcast news, subject to the whims of advertisers would make it difficult for a story that offends advertisers to get aired.

Sebastian Cobb

Channel 4 seem to manage. Get an independent org to make the news.

Maybe rather than dismantling it  there should be a sacrosanct independent body that makes news for the BBC, because they can't be trusted with it, or maybe they just shouldn't do news at all.

Fortunately only a increasingly small % of the population will watch broadcast TV as time goes by.

The BBC spends 7 times as much as Channel 4 and produces lots of children's TV, local television and national and local radio, none of which C4 does. Instead Channel 4's output is by necessity directed at its affluent middle-aged audience. There's not enough TV advertising money to go around, and if they ever ban antisocial things like gambling and payday loans from advertising, several existing commercial channels will be fucked.

I actually agree with the arguments of preservation due to content, having worked for a television station that aired sfc but a production department that made good shows for other channels and wanted to make good shows itself, but couldn't afford to give up the sfc slots because of advertising revenue.

Which is precisely why I say you can't win for losing - lose art or put up with a propaganda machine.

TV Licence can shove their licence schemes up their big fat hairy asses. I have not watched Live TV since 2011. They should go subscription.

You need a licence for more than just live tv.
