Love that too mate. Listened to it the first time just before Christmas.

Captain Z

I like it, it's on my default in-car playlist. But I do find it a little bit repetitive, once you get to that hard silence in the middle of the track it basically just reboots and repeats the same structure again. I wish they'd found an extra hook or layer to spice it up.

Best original track they did, although the Soulchild remix of 19-2000 blows it out the water.

Spiteface

Sometimes when your hopes have all been shattered
And there's nowhere to turn
You wonder how you keep going (going)
Think of all the things that really mattered
And the chances you've earned
The fire in your heart is growing (growing)
You can fly, if you try, leaving the past behind
Heaven only knows what you might find

Dare, dare to believe you can survive
You hold the future in your hand
Dare, dare to keep all of your dreams alive
It's time to take a stand
And you can win, if you dare

Everybody's trying to break your spirit
Keeping you down
Seems like it's been forever (ever), oh
But there's another voice if you'll just hear it
Saying it's the last round
Looks like it's now or never (never)
Out of the darkness you stumble into the light
Fighting for the things you know are right

Dare, dare to believe you can survive
The power is there at your command
Dare, dare to keep all of your dreams alive
It's time to take a stand
And you can win, if you dare

Dare, dare to believe you can survive
You hold the future in your hand
Dare, dare to keep all of your dreams alive
The power is there at your command, oh
Dare, dare to keep all your love alive
Dare to be all you can be
Dare, there is a place where dreams survive
And it's calling you on to victory

Like offering a choice between Jeff Beck's debut solo album and a Gorillaz single from 2004 featuring Shaun Ryder, does anyone fancy playing Truth or Dare?

I wish Bojack Horseman was carrying on for another season so I could write for it.

According to Shaun Ryder, the title should actually have been 'There' as that's what he was saying. The lyrics you have quoted was actually him talking back to Damon in the control room about turning the monitor level in his headphones up (hence it ending on 'It's there'), and they used it in the track.

That's cute, I didn't know that

Seems like a good time to bring up Brian Cox's murky buttrock past. At least we now know that things got better.

Yeah that's right; and the next lyric was actually "never did no ham", not "harm" ...Ryder was protesting accusation that he'd raided the sliced meats in Damon Albarns studio fridge

The clean vocal line is often mistaken for "You've got to press it on you", but it's actually "you've got depressit on you", referencing "depressit", the depression particle.

A thousand sozzes for being offtopic; but are those Griffiths little mates from Berserk in your profile pic?

Quite.

I was always very fond of Seconds.  Love that bass sound & riff and the slightly awkward but genius chord change into the chorus.

Hand Solo

I like this one too, but swear I could hear Albarn very quietly in the background doing the falsetto part along with the main vocal line, it's obviously right to the fore in this remix:

DFA Remix

And mixed more into the original track in this version.

Open Your Heart is the best thing the Human League ever did. Ever.

I stopped listening to that when I realised I preferred the Dare LP versions, but about 30 years ago L+D was a permanent fixture in my car's tape player.

This is actually their best work.

Ah, Dare. Great AOR/melodic rock band. Their sophomore effort 'Blood From Stone' was of course their masterpiece.

boki

It was good that they managed to escape the desert called Darren's Soul.

Yes, it is indeed the God Hand.

If anybody ever happens to go to a Gorillaz gig at any time, please turn to a stranger and whisper "I can't believe they're all robots!" for me
