That was unexpected

Had almost like a crush on him when I was a littlun watching Going Live as well.

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

Well, I didn't think he'd be the type to 'Gopher'* men (and their bottoms)!

H-O-W-L

Huh. Well, I'm glad he feels comfortable being publically honest about it.

Sebastian Cobb

Why did you go for this over a joke about him coming out of the broom cupboard?

I think you need to ask yourself whether this is representative of your best work.

Bum-sex trumps closets, mate. Come on, you know that.

I quite like having sex with women, if I'm honest. Very fond of it indeed.

But, like, cocks and stuff ...

I might not be up on things but I thought Pip Schofield was always gay.

Stop trying to make every thread about how much you love playing the organ!

Am I missing something or is this board becoming more accepting of homophobia?

You've dropped your Gay Card.

Shit Good Nose

Oh man, one of my friends is going to be massively upset about this news.

Like she ever had a chance either way.  But she won't see it like that.

Sounds like he struggled with it, so it's nice to hear his family is fully supportive.  But there's gotta be a few things going round in their minds as well.  Tricky one.

All that bullying at Our Price Radio seems a bit harsher in retrospect now, maybe it was sexually motivated.

'Phil, if you're listening, give me a call' is definitely one for the underrated Partridge thread.

So, which paper do we think was about to out him, prompting his self outing? Sun or Mail?

Where as on mumsnet

It will be Julian Clary or Rupert Everett next!

And lots of people saying it's been known in the industry for years, which doesn't quite tie into the idea it's something he is just now accepting.

Well according to the Sky article:

QuoteThe former Going Live! and The Cube presenter said he had not had his hand forced in coming out:

"This is my decision," he said. "This is absolutely my decision, it was something I knew I had to do."

Asked why he was announcing it now, Schofield said: "I wasn't being honest with myself."

The 57-year-old said: "This has been bothering me for a very long time, everybody does these things at their own speed, when they think the time is right.

"It has consumed my head, and has become an issue in my head."

Doesn't mean it's true of course.

Meanwhile I ought to say that I wasn't surprised in the slightest.  I actually said "No shit, Sherlock" out loud.  Without wishing to sound pompous or whatever, I'm surprised at how many of you are surprised.

My Mum's like that but with John Barrowman, keeps on going about how "It's such a shame", as if he was straight he'd be interested in a depressed seventy six year old.

Former Cabber Lady Beaner used to work with Phillip Schofield, and said he was lovely, but I always remember this post from her too:

10. I once told Phillip Schofield that he had a mouth like a sewer.
