'...a good sport?'

I'm a sucker for famous folk playing themselves to be sent up in comedy shows.  Yes, it can get a tad 'knowing', a bit wanky and 'in' but sometimes can result in great moments.

The masters of this 'ribbin'agé' on UK soil were, of course, Morecambe & Wise with Des' O Conner, Andre Previn, Angela Rippon, old BBC presenters nobody recognises anymore tumbling about in a South Pacific musical parody, etc.  The boys once performed a sketch where Ernie ditched Eric for a new comedy sidekick partner - a gurning Bernie Winters cameo. Meta. Sadly, not on YouTube.

Hammer horror star, Peter Cushing was always a good recurring gag on M&W show, continually asking for his fee.

Some faves off the top of my head:

Raquel Welch on The Muppet Show

Leo Sayer on Vic & Bob's Families At War
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xseu1RLlcOA

Jon Culshaw meets Tom Baker on Alter Ego
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9zWuklil8g

Liam Neeson on Life's Too Short
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqA577_IoBk

Richard Wilson on Father Ted
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAuDDj4Erpk

Jim Carrey SNL reunion

And not forgetting Syd 'n' Eddeh on Ant 'n' Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway

Who's been a good sport for you?

Each episode of Rich Hall's Fishing Show had a UK celeb being taken out on a rowing boat and shot.

Germaine Greer and John McCririck were dickheads

You're not thinking of this one (with Gordon Clyde rather than Bernie) are you?

Les Dennis in The Club

This has reminded me, various celebs in Extras. Patrick Stewart was excellent.

Which leads me to where that idea came from, various celebs in Larry Sanders. David Duchovny one of many.

Sting absolutely pissing himself laughing (and falling on his arse after sitting on Vic's lollipop stick chair) on The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer.

monkfromhavana

John Nettles on Toast of London basically playing himself as a tramp.

Poirots BigGarlickyCorpse

Leonard Nimoy always, always took the piss out of himself.

Patrick Stewart is playing basically a drug addled funhouse version of himself on American Dad and appeared as himself in live-action wraparound sections of the episode Blood Crieth Unto Heaven:

Then there's Liam Neeson playing himself on Family Guy:

That's brilliant (and strangely modern) but that wasn't what I was thinking of. The sketch is set in the flat and Bernie turns up at the end. Where's LF Barfe when you need him?

Andy147

Adam West appeared as a crazy version of himself in so many shows (often cartoons) that the TV Tropes page for this is called "Adam Westing".

Tommy Vance admitted to being totally sucked in by Brass Eye's prison slang prank, saw the funny side of it, praised Morris for doing so and didn't complain like that cunt John McCririck did.

Youi know when you make something and you're pleased with it but it's so niche you never get to use it?

He was brilliant.

Barney Sloane

Bill Murray in Zombieland / Coffee and Cigarettes.

Chevy Chase in Larry Sanders.

Gary Wilmot in The Tony Ferrino Phenomenon.

Merv Griffin in The Man With Two Brains.

Steve Coogan in A Cock and Bull Story / The Trip.

Ralph McTell in French and Saunders. Kevin Godley too, for that matter.

Various old-school comedians / comic actors in various Harry Hill radio and tv series

In the interest of balance, I should also nominate Bob Martin and Baddiel's Syndrome as the most egregious and self-congratulatory examples of this trope.

Clare Rayner as well, who defended Morris while admitting she was suckered as well. A good egg.

Yussef Dent

Brian Kennedy in the Hardy Bucks fake festival episode.

Frank Warren in the Operation Goodguys episode "Raging Pig," he'd later employ Mark Burdis as an MC.

Glad to hear this.  Everything I know about the human body I learned from 'The Body Book'.

I still say 'stands to attention' and 'baby making hole' :p

Mister Six

Not a fan of Family Guy at all, but I liked this little skit with David Lynch: https://youtu.be/Tp_sH1etJME

Looks like he was also a recurring cast member on The Cleveland Show, although these bits aren't as funny: https://youtu.be/MVKE44XZ9xQ

WHAAAAAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Brundle-Fly

The Weekenders was a one-off comic television pilot starring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, produced by Granada Television for Channel 4. Broadcast on Wednesday 17 June 1992 as part of a series of pilots entitled Bunch of Five, it was a surreal sitcom in which two friends, Jim and Bob visit a meat festival taking place in an open field. They are then chased by aliens who want the meat they have brought to feed their queen.
