It would be interesting to see what the 90s England side documentary would have been like. A cricket version of Graham Taylor's I suppose.

Well at least two episodes would be needed to cover Devon Malcolm learning how to hold a cricket bat.

There sure are a lot of meetings. You can see why the endless intensity is exhausting, even more so for all format players. It basically means that to be a Smith or Kohli takes some level of mongrel and being a Billy big bollocks with little to no self awareness, saving up the energy that other people expend being a decent considerate person on concentrating in the big moments.

Been watching The Test on Prime

Highly recommended even if you detest many of the Australian team and coaches as I do.

As with a lot of series it focuses on struggle and setbacks which as an England fan is gold dust. You get to see Australia lose A LOT.

Also seeing them throw away their lip service to being Good People when it suits them. As you'd expect from a team coaches by a moralising little hypocrite like Justin Langer, who is, by the way, a total weirdo.

Some decent guys though - Finch, Stoinis, Cummins, Hazelwood, Khawaja (single minded, respect). In their own ways you could imagine having a normal conversation with them. Very level headed and not the arrogance of several of the others.

Just got to the episode of Warner and Smith's reintegration and christ.. the cunt level just went back up to a recognisably 'ah yes this is Australia' feeling.

The level of backstage access is incredible and I think anyone playing should watch it as it totally demystifies it. It would be interesting to see what the 90s England side documentary would have been like. A cricket version of Graham Taylor's I suppose.

The book Steve Smith's Men by Geoff Lemon covers the lead-up to and fall out from sandpaper-gate and is a similarly gripping affair. Some serious cuntishness in that book. Can vouch for Khwajah though, he came and did a stint for Glamorgan last year (edit - it was the year before actually) and was a top bloke by all accounts.

Five Live Extra are replaying the whole of the Stokes test from last summer if anyone's interested that bored. We're on Day 2 and the shambolic English batting display of the first innings.

I'm taking comfort in the familiar.

I'm not sure why they are doing the whole thing. Largely bone shredding listening as our pile of shit team finds new ways to fail. The last couple of hours of the test more or less contain what the listeners will be interest in. Perhaps Stokes' long bowling spell in the 3rd innings too.

Abnormal Palm

Sky showing the Day 5 replay on YT right now if anyone is interested.

88 to win. No chance.

Nice one, YJB has just fucked off, that's it loser, fuck off, get down, then get further down. DOWN FURTHER.

Stokes into the group chat, chat is for closers.

Still getting excited. Gets more incredible as time goes on really. Last years cricket thread was fucking immense.

Not long until we get to hear McGrath have a breakdown on live radio. One of the highlights of the whole test.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

What a buzz. Still amazing.

Horrible to remind yourself just how fucking shit we were in the next test. How utterly wrecthedly shit.

So I thought I'd do that.

Sky are doing the WC final tomorrow. At least our bowling was decent in that, but our innings is not worth watching as we just slide further into the abyss before somehow dragging ourselves out of it.

Even though we did actually win as per the rules the World Cup still leaves a slightly uneasy taste. I wish we could've won it conventionally. Blagged it really.

I felt much worse at the justice of the win at the time as NZ are great guys and didn't really do anything wrong. Their bowling performance was outstanding and we were SO bad with the bat until right at the end. It's a good job our bowlers did so well in the first place, it was a 99% bottle job chasing that total, where we just forgot to bottle the remaining 1%.

A couple of moments of outrageous luck helped us out, but once the super-over started it came down to a situation New Zealand knew about and could control. Arguably having to get 1 more run is unfair but the proposition itself wasn't. We got the runs, they needed to get them + 1 run, it was in their hands, they didn't do it.

Kiwis fucked it. Too bad. Heard after the win our boys went island hopping over there and caused mayhem. I'm not even saying what happened but let's just say how many times does 800 virgins go into twelve or vice versa.

May as well just start posting classic cricket videos

All 17 dismissals of Atherton by Courtney Walsh. Fucked into the undergrave.

Brian Lara 153* vs Australia, Kensington Oval 1999 chasing 310 to win.

Unbelievable, up there with Ben Stokes when you think Australia had been skittled for 150 odd in the previous innings, it really did look like mission impossible.

MacGill and Warne are impotent, Gillespie and McGrath simply dismissed.

Australia all out for 60 at Trent Bridge in the Ashes, bowled out in under 20 overs, Broad 8-15

Australia so scared shitless of Broad and of green conditions they get themselves out to more than half of the deliveries. Oh and one amazing catch by guess who.

As Botham went into bat for the second time, England had already lost 5 wickets and still needed 122 runs to make Australia bat again....

And by contrast, one of Donald's really good days. Dale Steyn is a bit panto-villain for my tastes. Donald though, stone cold killa.

Jonty Rhodes run outs. Average player, but outstanding fielder. Must have paid back any runs he forgot to contribute with the bat with his fielding.

Best one is 6:30 where he decides 'Nah sick of lobbing the ball at the stumps I think this time I will THROW MY ENTIRE FUCKING BODY AT THE FUCKING STUMPS YEEEAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

I think I got this on here, can't be bothered checking the thread. King Cricket's 90s test simulation was good fun. Start here:

I've been pillaging the archives of that site in lieu of real sport, there are some great posts.
