Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Corona (But Were Afraid to Ask).  Got this excellent PM from a CaB'er with Corona who wants to keep everything on the down-low for obvious reasons.  Probably the most concrete thing I've seen through all this business.  Please read.

Dunno if I count as a CaBber, since I mostly lurk, but I am a confirmed Coronavirus case. Due to the circumstances of my infection, and the nature of the work I do, was able to jump the queue and get tested, which showed I had coronavirus. Have since tested all clear - no virus in blood, nothing on swabs, apparently now have  some antibody levels that they're using as a rough-marker for covid exposure until a better test becomes available. Sending this by PM because there's a slight [slight] chance that a couple of posters could trace this username back to my real-life name, and I don't want to panic anybody I know or have anyone ask me anything. So repost this in the thread if you like, just please don't mention my username? Or don't. Arsed, cigs, bald phimosis, etc

THIS BIT IS JUST BACKSTORY I AM TYPING BECAUSE I'M BORED IN SELF ISOLATION

I do patient transport for disabled and vulnerable folks in care - basically taking people with heavy assistance needs out and around in a wheelchair adapted vehicle, so they can socialise , go to college, do shopping, see loved ones etc. Cause a lot of these people are vulnerable a.f, we tend to be pretty para about hygiene anyway. On the odd occasion we also give runs to care home staff, take supplies from place to place, etc. And also we pee a lot, cause we drink insane quantities of tea.

Saturday the 8th of February, picked up this absolute walloper of a care home nurse, who proceeded to open mouth cough her guts out all over the bloody place. Then remarked she'd been sent home early with the flu. Then mentioned she'd just got back from holiday. Gave her a row, which she accepted like a sulky child, dropped her off, then immediately informed her bosses. Sent the vehicle for a deep clean, then went home and showered and went to bed. At this point was only suspecting some kind of weird foreign cold or something.

A wee while passed, during which I was off anyway [thank fuck] and asymptomatic, so I went to the gym to lift some weights. This would've been Wednesday the 18th. Couldn't get through my practice sets - at 50% of my usual capacity, the kind of weight I'd boost no problem, I was struggling. Was also very stiff, with no amount of stretching seeming to help, and was a bit dopey and sluggish. Was legit struggling to do the mental arithmetic of [25 x 2] + 15. Said "fuckit", cleaned everything down, went home and had a duvet day. Woke up the next day feeling physically very stiff and painful. Basically anything I'd involved in weightlifting felt wrecked. Left shoulder, left arm, lower back, thighs, knees and ankles all trumpeting like buggery. Neck as stiff as a poker, causing a headache. Spent the day wondering how I'd messed up my warmup so badly I'd apparently wrecked myself. Lower back so fucked that I had weird nerve burning electrical zaps in my left leg every time I coughed or moved too quick - according to a physio friend of mine, this was arachnoiditis?

The day after THAT, Friday the 20th, was very stiff, mild cold symptoms - sore throat, one running nostril, touch of fever - and nearly went to work before a little birdy went "oh no, fella, think about what's in the news" and I phoned in sick. Explained the situation to the bossman - cough in face from holiday goer, sickliness - and that plus the fact that I'm never ill made him go all thoughtful. Went to bed at about 20:00, and shit got a bit more exciting. Alternating fever and chills, huge fatigue, stiffness, coughing, trickly nostril. Had to do the weirdest configuration of duvets and garments to keep temperature comfy. Had weird nightmares, and sent some absolute gibberish to my mates via messenger. Woke up after a fairly crap night convinced I'd had a two hour sleep, realised it was 04:00am Sunday, and I'd sweated so much I'd taken the colour out of the cheap Primark t-shirt I sleep in. Went to bed again, and much the same - persistent cough, temperature spiking, runny nose, the occasional bit of weird looking mucus coming up. On the Monday felt better - scraped out, achey, coughing and a bit worn down, but not fuckin' destroyed. Had some porridge and a banana and a glass of juice, then the boss phoned and basically told me I was getting tested for Corona.

So off I went, muttering and coughing [into the crook of my elbow], to a never before seen room at my local practice, where a nice man in a spacesuit swabbed my sinuses and throat, took a whole load of blood samples [cheeky bastard took extra] and then said to basically fuck off home and don't touch anything at all ever. Went home, self isolated for a few days - flu symptoms abated, but was veeeeery washed out, tired and grumpy, and then on the Friday got told that yep, got the Rona. Little questionnaire from the doc - how'm I feeling, do I have any respiratory issues, what's my temperature - and then told to come back in a week for another test, basically since they wanna get practice before shit hits fan. Friday the 6th of March, another test, then on the following Tuesday was told all clear. But also told to self isolate and stay away from everything since nobody really knows what to do with recovered peeps yet. I now feel pretty much fine, with the only lingering symptom being a slight backache - but this is basically due to sacking all lifting and yoga'ing for an exciting life of sitting in a cheap computer chair wanking and playing videogames.

BORING BACKSTORY ENDS, RELEVANT THINGS FOLLOW

I am: 34 year old male, reasonable fitness, blood type B+. Former 10 a day smoker, quit when I was 27. Mild drinker. Medical history is relatively unexciting. Some complications during birth, causing suspected foetal birth asphyxia. Missing testicle due to cancer in late teens. Underactive thyroid gland. Tendency towards anaemia. Blood pressure tends towards the naturally low, for no discernible reason. Am actually a balding dude who had phimosis. No, really.

Symptoms: In order, were:
Feeling of stiffness and joint pain
Headache
Lethargy
Constipation
Feeling a bit breathless. I sing a lot [much to my neighbour's delight] and nearly passed out a couple of times.
Sore throat
Mild sinus problems
Dry, annoying cough
Fever
Mild breathing difficulties when lying down,.
At the absolute peak, a weird achey feeling in the ribcage, particularly around where my primary bronchii would be, and a kinda...tight feeling that was very hard to describe.
An odd sensation that something was in my lung. Not painful or worrying, but odd.
Mucus production when coughing

And then, in the aftermath:
Bit of weakness, reduction of cardiovascular capacity, grumpiness and a lack of resistance to temperatures. If it was a degree too hot or too cold, I was fukt mate.

Also of note were a couple of lingering conditions that seemed to take the opportunity to fuck me when I was down - athlete's foot went tonto, as did my complexion, and a persistent yeasty ear thing that I've been battling with for THE past 18 months made an unwelcome return. I'm no doctor, but I suspect a lot of the panic stories about THE virus attacking various organs are largely down to pre-existing conditions being cheeky fuckers and going ham while you're body's coronafying.

Spread out over a period of what, 15 days? All in all I've felt sicker - gastric flu is worse, had whooping cough and it was worse, getting chickenpox at 25 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse - but I could see it being a real fucker if you're old or have underlying health problems.

MEDICINES AND THINGS I TRIED
- Covonia, Lemsip, some store's own brand cough medicine. None of them really did fuck all.
- Lozenges helped a lot with the sore throat and sinuses, and although I doubt they did anything practical, helped my chest feel a bit better.
- Ibuprofen didn't do much for the soreness, nor did paracetamol.
- Tiger Balm was an absolute lifesaver. Was basically slathered in that shite the entire time.
- A nice warm bath also did wonders
- When having difficulty breathing, getting up and doing exercise was basically the last thing I wanted to do, but even a few half-hearted squats, pushups and a bit of tai chi made a huge difference. You know that risible video of those chinese docs making all the oldies dance? BIG help.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT
- Drink or smoke. Decided to celebrate on the Monday with a cheeky can of Kopparberg and a cheeky toke, and pretty much instantly torpedo'd myself back into the lethargy, sore head and sweats.

THE WOMAN WHO COUGHED ON ME:
Is dead. Found collapsed in her home, apparently some kind of pre-existing kidney infection got her? Her death is not thought to be connected to Covid 19 in any way.

I HAVE TYPED:
Too much.

Cheers, la.

Mrs Sheds & Sheds the Youngest, both work in care, both in 14 day isolation. Sheds the Youngest's girlfriend's co-worker tested positive for the 'Vids and another showing symptoms. Mrs Sheds has official NHS isolation note sent after a 111 call, "you're only the second person I've sent one to" said the 111 guy.

I really do suspect that I've had it after reading that, even down to the posting gibberish on messenger. This would have been around the same time and it went through three of us in the office. Coronavirus seemed like some distant terrifying other kind of thing so it didn't really come up in conversation. I share a bus with a load of Chinese students twice a day and my kid goes to nursery with a few Chinese kids, so it could have easily come in with one of them.

The most lingering thing was the full body aches that only really stopped a week or two ago and I'm still short of breath, but I suffer with my chest most of the year anyway. And my kid didn't get it, which I was staggered by, as we share illnesses like Pringles in this house.

I do realise I'm just describing any number of winter viruses though. I'm a massive hyperchondriac at the best of times, but I didn't ever suggest that it could have been the old covid bowie because I've had actual confirmed flu once before in my life when I was a young man and I genuinely thought I was going to die, and it was nowhere near that bad.

If it has already got everywhere ages ago, does that mean we're more or less fucked than we suspect? YOU DECIDE.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Corona (But Were Afraid to Ask)...

Vital post there.

I spent a lot of time on the phone to my manager this afternoon, mainly giving him the lowdown on my situation, but also finding out what was going on at work.  One person in our team and his wife have both got it (both were tested - she's a critical worker and he's one of the seniors in the local voluntary emergency response team - and tested positive), but are having vastly different experiences - our colleague, at the moment at least, says he doesn't feel like he's suffering with any more than a very mild cold, whilst his wife is going through much the same as our lurker above and has been quite debilitated by it.  Which is odd as our colleague is pushing 25 stone, has diabetes and gout, whilst she has no underlying health issues.  Which goes to show that it really is affecting people in different ways.

I dunno whether we need to lockdown now. Mrs Alberon had a temperature for about a day, but she's recovered fully from it this afternoon. We're not socialising this weekend, but do I need to call up work on monday to tell them I won't be in for the best part of a fortnight?

Today has been the first day since Monday where I have felt like I am actually getting better rather than steadily worse. Still feel rinsed and am coughing quite a bit, but it's been an improvement. Not getting so light-headed now, which is nice because that was fahkin' unpleasant.

A few people I saw last weekend have had the same thing so we must have all been spat in the mouth by the same super-speader or something.

The advice is you stay at home for 14 days. I think because some people will have very mild symptoms, such as a temperature and nothing else. It's what we're doing - a bit of a fag but worth it to not give it someone who will get stiffed by it

All very mysterious. Yesterday I had a bit of a cough, a few dull aches and just an odd sensation around the throat and chest. Nothing bad, like a very slight tickle / pressure. Little bit light headed towards the end of the evening. I've been self isolating for a week now (except 2 trips to grocery store), so I rationalized it as me picking up the cold Q Jr had. Woke up this morning feeling completely fine.

Best wishes to all those suffering though this. Especially SGN, that sounds absolutely brutal. And happy to hear our anonymous 'vidder has fully recovered.

I was ill for around a month in Jan/Feb, so I went to Tenerife to try to get well- get sun (vit D[1]), eat oranges, fast a bit. Was staying in a hostel for some of it. Various people had some nasty dry coughs. Then a guy came in with his girlfriend; his best mate had coronavirus. They were both in the same dorm room as me, and the woman had a terrible dry cough. Next day I had it, plus tiredness, aching limbs. I fasted 24 hours and it pretty much went away. Not sure if I had the virus. I'd guess that that was what it was, and like many people, my symptoms were mild.
 1. I'm reluctant to mention vitamin D these days. The way I feel about it might make me seem slightly obsessive, so I do my best to rein it in. I don't think I am, but I do prioritise it more than other people, in the same way that some people have a thing about 'protein' or 'reps'. The vitamin D winter lasts about 8 months in Britain, which forces me to take measures beyond the usual to try and extend this period.

Exactly same symptoms to me, fine in morning - getting worse in evening... bizarre... I think its MILD coronavirus symptoms, but without the fever or persistent cough then who knows? Maybe a 'partner in crime' virus that is piggybacking and exploiting Corona's loopholes. The little weasel virus to BOSSMAN COVID.

I wonder whether I have had it now. That weird 'gastric flu' I had. Tightness in the chest for several days which I attributed to shitting myself weak and dehydrated or reading too much about the CV. Run down and knackered. Couldn't think straight or articulate at times. Probably not but ten days of feeling like that was very odd.

It seems a little silly, but we don’t really have an option. I’ve emailed my boss saying I’m isolating for two weeks, but she probably won’t read it until tomorrow. Mrs Alberon is feeing a bit better but is still very worn out.

I’ve enough games, books and tv shows to isolate for a couple of years but Mrs Alberon would be climbing the walls within days. Good thing that isolation for her is just a week.

A few people I saw last weekend have had the same thing so we must have all been spat in the mouth by the same super-speader or something.

Going to a drugs festival for four days, catching coronavirus and then bringing it back with you was fine this time last week.  If anything, it was to be encouraged.

Anyone doing that now wants stringing up.
