Garry Bushell stands for Parliament

Sorry if this has already been pointed out before on here, but I've yet to find any reference.  Get ye here:

I've had a bit more of a look at the English Democratic party's policies, and it seems like a bizarre hodge-podge to be honest with you.  For one thing, I support the idea of there being an English Parliament (though not so much that I'd consider a protest vote about it) but then there's other bizarre policies about patriotism, immigrants (they have a big downer on these, as you can imagine), and liberal drugs laws.  Where the hell are they coming from?

More to the point, as an ex-member of both the SWP and the National Front, where the hell is Bushell coming from?

I know the guy is a twat, but a ex-member of the NF?  Seriously?!

Edit: Oh my god, and he is standing in my borough!

Quote from: "Beardy Troll"...but perhaps my best known work is the hard-hitting TV column, Bushell On The Box, first published in July 1987. It now appears every Sunday in The People.

I dare you to vote for him. Go on, vote for England!

Why do minor mentalist parties always terribly designed websites?

Ahhh, the temptation!  Being 'braaaan' an all I might dress up in a sari and pop down to his HQ!

I tell you what I love most about the English people, most of them don't give a toss about being English. A lesson Mr Bushell will soon learn at the ballot box.

Braaaan? Is that a remix of the television version of All Bran?

If I had any more wit I'd be a half wit.

"Hard-hitting TV column".  Yeah, well, if you think describing ageing soap stars as "hounds" or weak puns about Oxbridge comedy counts as "hard-hitting", then so be it.

I do worry slightly that HIGNFY, having refused to book Bushell as a guest for the last 15 years, may have now strayed so far down the "being talked about" road, that they're going to give in.  But then again, I don't watch it these days.

I know we live in an age of The Friday Night Project, Dare To Believe, High Spirits With Shirley Ghostman and so on, but the TV transfer of Bushell On The Box (late night ITV, 1996ish) ranks as the single worst series of anything I have ever seen on television.  Apart from High Spirits With Shirley Ghostman.

Load up you key boards of justice as i can feel a slating coming on.....

I just had a quick look at the website, admitedly it was a quick look, but some of what they are saying is pretty commonsense really. I didn't find it Racist, it just seemed to be saying that this country should look after it's own cultural identity (i know this can become racism if taken further) but in a way, and this has been debated on other threads, they are putting peole from his country first. and at the glance i saw it didn't look like that was just the english whities either.

What they said on drugs seemed pretty good as well.

But having said that, if he has stood for the BNP before then i'm sure this multi cultural stand is just the thin end of what he actually believes and wants.

Plus even if he had the best policies ever....... Gary Bushell is a prick and i would rather piss on him than vote for him (well actually if he let me piss on him then he could have my vote)

Apparently so.  I think the excuse that is often trotted out is that he was only a member as a teenager, but you only have to take a close look at some of his rants these days to realise he hasn't come a long way.

This isn't that unbelievable, though the constituent members of both groups would rarely be found drinking round the same table the basic foundations of both groups wouldn't make them immediately mutually exclusive. I'd doubt he spent much that time with either though, the big hairy cunt.

He's interested in extremes, that's all.  It gets you noticed, he imagines.

SWP is the accepted internet abbreviation for Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips. Wouldn't have though Bushell was that keen on him but there you go.

(it's also the abbreviation for the Socialist Workers Party)

Apparently the National Front try to play down their Bushell connections.

Bushell, and indeed the EDP, seem to have forgotten that he's a viciously homophobic and xenophobic little bully who doesn't give a fuck about democracy. If he had his way, the middle and upper classes, gays, ethnic minorities, and anybody who isn't a Socialist wouldn't be allowed to vote. If you're for proof, read his columns and the rhetoric on his website.

The EDP website seems to have been cobbled together at the last moment. There's very little meat on it; a few points, lots of pro-Anglo gristle, but it doesn't say very much. Although it's all covertly right-wing and almost dumbed-down to the point of actually falling over:

QuoteThe primary role of a legal system is to provide the means for settling disputes...Laws, and the penalties for breaking them, should comply with the principles of natural justice

Disputes as in, 'He shot my wife fourteen times, I now want bloody vengence.' Somehow 'disputes' is a piss-poor word for this pretty lame definition. And 'natural justice' is going down the 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth' road.

The Mumbler:

Quote"Hard-hitting TV column". Yeah, well, if you think describing ageing soap stars as "hounds" or weak puns about Oxbridge comedy counts as "hard-hitting", then so be it.

He referred to Armando Iannucci as 'Nathan Barley with a degree' which made me wretch. He has an inveterate hatred of anyone who went near a university or has A-levels, presumably because he has neither degree nor many qualifications ('cept from the university of life, right fellas?) The phrase 'militantly working class' springs to mind when reading his diatribes against the middle class. His theory is that the homosexual, child-procuring, working-man-hating, French-loving middle classes have invaded TV and have kicked out all the 'proper salt o' the earth' comedians - except for the few like Peter Kay, whom he showers in rose-flavoured water every week. It's pathetic really, but he wants to bring back Variety shows and comedians who wear dicky-bows and make jokes about the difference between rich teas and hob nobs. His strongest belief has bugger all to do with the EU or democracy, but that the only good comedian is the moronic, Carry On-loving cunt about South East London. He complains about the lack of proper satire on TV which is fair enough, but whenever a good satirist like Morris comes along, Bushell plays the 'he's middle class, posh, toff, unfunny public school boy, why-can't-we-have-real-comedians-on-TV' card. He complains about the snobbery against the working classes, but it's not much good when he's whinging about the evil middle class. He should pull that bearded bollock of a head from out of his enormous arse and realise that THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY, IT'S JUST YOUR FAVOURITE COMEDIANS ARE SHIT.

At least we can have the pleasure of knowing that his pilot The Garry Bushell Show was never made into a series, and that Private Eye is regularly taking the piss out of this middle-aged, pot-bellied Jimmy Carr.
