I gotta say fair fuckin play, these boys are putting their hand in their pockets to save lives. Some of the response, economically, has been extremely surprising and quite impressive.

It's why we all voted Tory, right?

Now it's just a matter of trusting the employers to use it on their employees. Luckily bosses are great, otherwise 'boss' wouldn't mean "Incrediably Awesome; miraculous; great" on urbandictionary.

ETA: Oh right, 80% of employee wages being paid by the GovernMan?  Somehow missed that bit.

Yeah It's fucking crazy. I've been slagging them off for the last week for doing fuck all, but they're 'stepping in' to cover our arses it seems.

Funcrusher

A reminder that this is our money.

Mad thing is that Granpa Semptex would never have been able to do the this without being fuckin slaughtered so turns out out actually the best team won in the this specific circumstance.

jobotic

And, hopefully, a right-wing government engaging in this amount of spending will make it that much harder for 'magic money-tree' type dismissals to stick to future left-wing proposals.

This is great material. How do you come up with it?

Granpa Semtex :D

Sheffield Wednesday

I don't actually get the Grandpa Semtex thing, but I do find it funny. I appreciate your nuanced tone, though. Nice work.

Hey, that's great to hear. I only do what I do for people to enjoy so your words mean a lot.

This is basically life support for capitalism and they have no fucking choice anyway as when they deviated from what other countries were doing even slightly they got fucking battered.

I am afraid that the decade we will spend 'paying this back' will make the 10s look like a funfair as the Tories use this as the final shock doctrine pretext to end public anything.

Finally though the disparity in justice between rich and poor will be laid so bare as to be at everyone's front door.

greencalx

So we finally got the Marxist government that was roundly trounced in the 2019 GE.

Lot of negative Nancy's in the this thread.

This approach is unprecedented by any UK government in 40y.

Captain Z

They will bankrupt the country!!

Sebastian Cobb

I'd take a 20% pay cut not to work from home, although I feel it's the only thing keeping me from going full-nocturnal b2b cabin fever.

It's a smart move by the government that will get a lot of people onside and earn them a lot of room and time to get on with their long-term plan of taking everything apart and handing it to their city/oligarch mates once all this is all over.

But only to prop the same fucking system up

They turned on the QE again which post 2008 crash was  the quickest transfer from the general populace to the uber rich there have ever been.

How is it going to work though, do people have to register for it? What staff are doing the processing?

greencalx

As usual, there is no detail. But as someone who has been looking at having to lay off a team of eight staff on account of the government effectively closing the business down by default, I am very interested to find out.

Pingers

The second time in only 12 years that it's been made plain that the free market is completely unable to sustain itself.

Capt.Midnight

Where does this money actually come from? Does anyone know?

EasyToType

They are elligble for Universal Credit I read, which will maybe increase by £1000 a year.
