Three Busy Debras (new Adult Swim show)

Small Man Big Horse

Along with Beef House this began on Adult Swim last night, but unlike Beef House it's actually really great. A hyper surreal comedy about three housewives, it's impressively inventive, sometimes silly, sometimes daft, and sometimes just plain fucking funny, and it's a show I found myself adoring by the end of it's short running time. The world they've created feels fully formed already (perhaps due to them having created the characters for their live shows a good few years back) and I love how unpredictable the whole thing is, it doesn't appear to be on any torrent sites so far but it can be watched at: https://www1.watchserieshd.tv/series/three-busy-debras-season-1-episode-1

I just skipped through that randomly and hit on a funny line every single time.

amoral

Yep, it's great. Totally anarchic with lots of funny ideas. I think it'll be very rewatchable.

Hate to clash with ya twice in as many days SMBH, but eehhhh I wasn't totally feeling this. It's definitely having a lot of fun in the same ballpark as PFFR but it just wasn't quite hitting the mark. Now, I'm not saying that a show like this should be striving to fill the same "dark, surreal and disturbing" quota as The Heart, She Holler, but when it feels like the show is already part of the way there, I'm left wondering why it isn't going further.

I can certainly agree that it is a well-formed concept, where it all slots together nicely and the good ideas are flowing at a substantial pace, but the performances and the general tone of the show were a little too below par. For example, I really like the pristine whiteness of the home decor and the Debras' outfits, and the best single moment of the episode was when the new pool boy suddenly threw up when he was cleaning up the blood (which was pretty much the only laugh that this episode got out of me). But there needs to be more of that.

I can definitely see a lot of potential for it to expand the way I'd hope, though, and overall I do like the characters and want to see more.

Same. This link works, but you'll have to shut about four or five pop-up porn sites before the player actually works (and another four or five to pause it again). Laptop w/adblocker will help.

They also have Childrens Hospital and Burning Love on there.

Ah, my apologies, I have uBlock Origin installed and didn't have any popup's or horrible shit like that, but I'm sorry it happened.

I'm starting to worry that one of us has been kidnapped and replaced with an imposter, but I can't say for sure which one of us it is.

Misread the title as Three Busty Debras.

Watched it anyway.

Probably won't watch it again.

Ant Farm Keyboard

By far the best episode of Tuca and Bertie, and it was live action too.

Me too. Just struggling to see what the point of it is. Spoilt rich women being horrible isn't exactly a fresh idea, and the whimsical dressing isn't adding much either. It's not bad as such, it's all well executed, just not very interesting. Not a single thing surprised me.

Ant Farm Keyboard

Even the swapping of the clothes at the precinct?

Blumf

I think that was the closest it came to an amusing idea. Definitely the best part of the episode.

Ant Farm Keyboard

Episode 2, "Cartwheels", felt quite lightweight. Alyssa Stonoha (the one with the straight hair) had once again the best material (the basketball camouflage or the tumbleweed) but most of the episode looked like it was in need of another draft.

Mister Six

Just watched the pilot and found it to be a lot of fun. Surprised by how negative the response on here has been, actually.

Sexton Brackets Drugbust

Haven't been able to see the show proper yet, but the YouTube stuff was great.

Ant Farm Keyboard

Season 1 is over now.

It's a pity that episodes 2 (the Cartwheel Club) and particularly 3 (the sleepover) were the weakest of the bunch. Things improved a lot with episode 4 (about sister Barbra), episode 5 (the free money) was pretty good, and the finale about the three Debras having a day off had some great moments (particularly the reveal about the affair).

The main problem they have is that all three writers and performers seem to be happy with individual storylines for their own character, while many great moments come from their interactions (apart from episode 3, which was much too repetitive for its own sake).

I enjoyed a lot of the more surreal gags, including the stuff with the topless guy at the bar from episode 4. But it is definitely much more entertaining than companion show Beef House. I didn't expect Tim & Eric to be that stale. The joke about pushing sitcom conventions a little too far wasn't eventually that original or funny, and they had already done this on "The Bathroom Boys" (from Bedtime Stories) or the Dr. Steve Brule Bagboy special.

Dewt

Watching the linked episode in full instead of skipping through and it is making me laugh a lot. Especially when
Spoiler alert
she pulled the cop into the office to steal his clothes and he also walked out happy in his new outfit

The first episode also has the thing with the handbag. Of course, it was a given that there would be an extra large handbag at the store, but what makes it work is the followup about the price and the delivery.

Yes, I just saw the delivery and loved that.

Famous Mortimer

I just started on it, and I really liked it. Very much in the "Stella" mould (and tons better than Beef House, which was a complete misfire).

Ant Farm Keyboard

All ten episodes of season 2 are now accessible from the usual places, while we only got the premiere a month ago. I'm three episodes in. So far, it's in line with the over the top tone of the first season (the first episode about the milk drought, with its absurd and cartoonish logic), but with some emphasis on the co-dependency between the three Debras and the resent below the surface.

Ron Superior

This bump reminds me that this short dropped on nobudge the other day. Great fun.

Famous Mortimer

Also, when you're on nobudge, check out Tynan DeLong, funny as hell and makes some excellent short films.

Ron Superior

Oh cool, I love Tynan. Me and my son regularly copy his clapping for essential workers video.

Nobudge also have a subscription service including the film Ham On Rye that I keep hearing good things about, but I can't tell if it's region restricted.
