Thinking of subscribing to Viz to try and cheer myself up a bit. However, not sure whether Viz and other magazines would continue to be produced during the upcoming months. I presume newspapers will count as essential but I don't want to subscribe to those.

Quite a few magazines seem to have gone digital-only to avoid the hassle of a paper magazine (Time Out and Playboy apparently have, although Time Out is probably seeing revenue falling because nobody has any time out any more). I guess in some areas things are going to be very quiet: not many film releases, no sport, fashion industry will be quiet, no art galleries, etc, but other areas can keep going. A surprising number of British magazines are actually printed in China or edited overseas, so it's complex, and many have very long production schedules with things written months in advance, so content is probably there but with shops shut, postal/distribution services slowing, print advertising declining, etc, reading online is maybe a better bet. The biggest risk is probably taking a subscription to a magazine which then goes bankrupt and closes down :(

Viz sent an email to subscribers saying that they'll try to get the magazine out, but will offer free digital copies if they can't manage it and send the paper ones out later when it's all back to normal.

As a left field option, my girlfriend has a Readly subscription for her iPad. It's £7.99/month and it gets you all of these magazines (Viz is included), plus at least a year's worth of back issues for each one (I think it goes back as far as January 2018 for Viz):

If you sign up now you can get two months free.

Thanks. I've signed up for a Viz subscription and Private Eye.

Cardenio I

I subscribed to the LRB and Tribune, and set up my work affiliated FT access. The latter is all fucking coronavirus shit which, while the only story in town, is now incredibly boring. Looking forward to the LRB arriving to take my mind off it.

Zero Gravitas

All the good magazines are dead, S, Faux Q, Paradis.

At least Yes&No is still going, but I fear one day there will be nothing to serve the interests of people who want bilingual interviews with sino-french graffiti artists alongside their pornography.
