Resident Evil 4 REmake

It was inevitable although most fans of the series including me would have preferred Code Veronica. I can see a lot of content being cut from this.

Tried to play this on the PS4 the other day, absolute toilets. Control scheme is useless.

It was amazing on the Wii though.

Does RE4 really need a remake? It's still pretty decent compared PS1 era games. Agree though, that Code Veronica could do with an RE2 style lick of paint. It's good for it's day, but some tightening up would really modernise it.

I don't think it needs it personally, but I'm not a gatekeeping elitist, so I can see the value in making a version for cack-handed morons who moan about tank controls and don't understand not being able to move while you shoot is intrinsic to the design.

Fucking pointless remake. Do CODE Veronica.

What next a remake of RESI-5?

It harms nobody and doesn't slight the original game in any way whatsoever. Why would anyone complain about it. Get some cyanide off eBay.

Great news, I fucking love Resi4 so much that even if it's total shite it will be brilliant

I just don't really see how they can improve on the original story and dialogue. "Your right hand comes off?" Is the pinnacle of videogame writing.

This is true though - Resi 4 is so brilliant it's hard to screw up, and if they do screw it up it's going to be so much fun to sneer at it.

If the amount of content cut from RE3 remake is anything to go by, they probably don't wanna remake CV because it goes on for fucking eons.

Yeah it would require effort and thought. Fuck that now. Milk this remake cow fuck yeah.

It's worth a go. As people say it goes on for at least twice the length of other Resi games and it is hard, in my opinion.

Plus it has Steve Burnside and Alex Ashford in it, two of the best stupid characters in video game history. They're ridiculous even by Resident Evil standards.

If you have trouble with RE4's controls, then you ain't gonna get on with Code Veronica. It's very much in the traditional Resident Evil formula, even if it does try to be more actiony in places.

If you get past that, it's a good romp. Not quite as camp as RE4, but on the way. I don't think it's aged as well RE4, though, which is why I suggested it would be a better candidate for a remake.

Only Resi game I've ever completed, they scare me and I'm no good at them. I was gonna say surely it's too recent to be remade, but 15 years old, dear god. Replayed it not that long ago and I remember it being technically fine, I can't imagine what can be added except better graphics. Reworking the Ashley escorting parts maybe, but I remember that actually being implemented well enough to keep things tense rather that tedious.

I would love to see the Dino Crisis games remade, that'd definitely be enhanced by a modern revamp. A survival horror where your being hunted by fast dynamic bird beasts would work really well.

I like the tank controls, and am a huge fan of 2 & 3. Must see if I can find CV somewhere

I wonder if they really are skipping Veronica. They're obviously on a remake roll at the moment and that was one loads of people skipped first time round wasn't it?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the decisions are made in a manner as stupid as “CV didn’t sell as well, don’t do a remake” and not bothering to think about why that was (ie because it was on the Dreamcast)

It was ported to ten thousand systems though. Even the PS3 for gawd's sakes.

It's a weird one because it really should be considered a mainline entry, but circumstance led to it getting an awkward title instead, which means there's a weird perception of it.

I think it's the weakest out of 1-3 but it's mechanically a "classic resident evil" and it's weird to see Capcom erasing it.

It makes so much more sense to do a remake for technical reasons, but obviously not financial.

Presumably, having done most of the technical heavy lifting with RE2, they can knock these remakes out relatively quickly and cheaply (compared to yer typical AAA game I mean, or a fully fledged new RE sequel) so I would have expected Veronibo to be a safe bet if they were to continue. Might yet turn up while we're waiting for RE4 I suppose, especially since RE4 hasn't actually been officially announced.

Because RE4make is going to make a shit ton of money, more than a CV or Dino Crisis.

On one hand I feel the same with regards to feeling like Code Veronica should be the next one up for a REmake, as I never played it and I'm not sure I want to buy it on PS4 to play such a dated game. Also RE4 has been ported to basically every console, I completed it on Gamecube, then again on PS3 years later and loved it both times but I don't think gameplay wise it needs a remake the same way RE 1-3 benefited from it.

On the other hand the current remakes are grounding the RE franchise a bit more than the original games, so it will be interesting to see if they ground RE4 or they double down on the hammy stuff like this little chap:

Dunno how to feel about this. 4 is one of my all-time favourite games, so don't fuck it up, but I've played it so many times on so many platforms that I'd be thrilled playing a whole new version of it with some different surprises.

As 4 is the only RE game I've ever played, I've started working my way through the series this year with the remakes - Resident Evil remake was brilliant, and I proper fell for the game style and mechanics despite expecting I was going to be like a big stupid baby too coddled to get to grips with something slower paced and focused on survival and item conservation than running round shooting fuck out of everything. Resident Evil 2 Remake felt a little bit like the best of both worlds, and looks incredible, but I have been disappointed with the A/B structure. I swear when it came out, people on all other sites were acting like it was some brilliant game design, having a second story intertwine with the first, but doing Leon-A Claire-B really feels like playing the exact same game, in a way that makes no fucking sense, and has put me off bothering with Claire-A Leon-B. Reading the thread here on CaB it seems generally accepted as being a total bungling of what actually did work in the original - and I think I've seen people saying RE3 remake loses chunks of the original in a similar way. So I hope they don't rush out a remake of this one that loses huge sections for the sake of getting it made quicker. Then again story-wise, I'm not sure you could fuck it up in the same way.

It'll definitely be odd if they lose the camp, but then the original terrified me so much that I'd be really excited to see an updated version that ramps up the horror and tension even further.

This is exactly what they will do especially considering 4 had quite a few larger different areas compared to 2 and 3.  I've not played REmake 3 (Iplayed the demo) and felt no rush to buy.  I was underwhelmed by REmake 2, it's not a bad game by any means, it's good, but if you have played the original it's impossible to not compare it every step of he way,the scenario set up they used has barely any of the replayability the original had, the original is simply much cooler on every level.

No I don't think you did, I think instead you explained how you're too stupid to grasp the concept of "push forward to run in the direction the character is facing"
