As mentioned in the live performances on Youtube thread Puddle of Mudd has to be one of the poniest names for a band in chart history. Limp Bizkit might be up there but POM wins it for me.

Your own nominations please...

Puddle of Mudd is dreadful but Papa Roach makes my heart sink more. Never heard them knowingly though.

Staind
Nickelback
Car Seat Headrest
The The

And of course, any band whose name is a sentence. Or a string of words with no spaces between them.

The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die

How could I forget

30 Seconds To Mars
5 Seconds Of Summer

I have a youthful soft spot for ..And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead though.

lazyhour

There are so many terrible band names!

The Feeling
Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons ffs

The Culture Bunker

The The, I have respect for in that he was the first to think of it, or at least the first successful person to do so. Same as the Band.

lazyhour

True. Still a bit cringey though.

Arctic Monkeys is a horrendous band name.

Al Tha Funkee Homosapien

I mean...what is a good band name? They are all essentially pretty shit.

Yeah those are dreadful. Maybe not particularly successful, but another one that springs to mind is Death Cab For Cutie.

"Coldplay" always seemed like a particularly uninspiring name too.

I've never listened to the band The The because of their name. I'm a huge fan of anything subversive , absurd or parodical but it just really put me off them. Are they good ?

yeah fair point.

Not sure how successful they are, but there's a band knocking about at the moment called Twin Peaks... I will never be able to listen to a band called Twin Peaks...for me it's objectively the worst band name ever...twin peaks isnt an obscure enough of a show to call your band after i. Never in my entire life have I felt more incencsed by a band name than right now

yeah fair point.

It's like naming a cat or a hamster or a child. They became whatever sound you bestow upon them.

Well, I like their (his) albums, but then I got into them as a depressed 17 year old in 1998, so judge from that.

I have always liked that name (and the band)

Before I heard them I already wrote off black rebel motorcycle club (ugh) for the awful name. They became one of my all time favourite bands ever but that name still vexes me.

Dr Syntax Head

Again a band I fucking love but with a annoying and bad name, !!! (or chk chk chk which is worse)

tbf, it's maybe uninspiring, but:

Vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion met at University College London and began playing music together from 1996 to 1998, first calling themselves Pectoralz and then Starfish before finally changing their name to Coldplay.[3][4]

Back in the days when I listened to Radio 1, Mark & Lard would often point out that you can't have a puddle of mud anyway in reference to their shit name.
It's either a muddy pudde or just some mud.

Both of which would have been better band names.

Dusty Substance

Live. The sub-Pearl Jam post grunge/alt-rock band of Lightning Crashes fame (featuring the astonishing lyric "Her placenta falls to the floor").

Not only is it a shit name, it's unclear if they meant 'live' as in 'to exist', or 'live' as in 'a concert performance'. It must be hell being a fan of the band and getting billions of hits when Googling "Live music".

jobotic

Boyzone

BoysSoCool would have been better. Or Chestnuts.*

*I'm watching 15 Storeys High later, you see if I don't.

All their albums would look like "live" albums, with the actual album title looking like a band name
