Eight years since her last album, but the wait was worth it. She's still one of the best living songwriters, in my opinion. This album is a lot more raw and stripped back than The Idler Wheel, more percussive and unpolished, but in a good way. Anyway, it's bloody great.

This recent article/interview from the New Yorker, which touches on the new album, is well worth a read too: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/03/23/fiona-apples-art-of-radical-sensitivity

The reception for this is utterly insane right now, gonna have to ignore reviews altogether cos it's totally gonna weigh in my head otherwise.

Would be stunned if it's anything but really good though

I listened last night as soon as it came out before I'd seen any reviews, but yeah, the reception is nuts. I think it currently has 99/100 on Metacritic!

Listened to this three times last night. Really fucking good. There's so much in the arrangements and lyrics, it's going to be an album that I get more out of each listen for a while. I'm heavily biased because I adore her music generally but it seems worth the wait.

Listening to it now. The first Fiona Apple album I've heard in one sitting and am liking it a lot so far. Worthy of the ten out of ten in Pitchfork? Obviously far too early to tell. It certainly feels like an album that I'll be coming back to a lot and I'll be sure to check out her previous records.

I've somehow managed up to now to never knowingly hear one of her songs, but this album is superb. Had it on repeat all day.

Ja'moke

It's one of those albums that on the first couple of listens sounds really raw and unpolished, in a good way, but not instantly catchy. However, there are some superb melodies on here that on your third, fourth, fifth listen start creeping in, and by your ninth, tenth listen you realise it's chock-full of melodies and catchy hooks that'll be stuck in your head all day.

Why did you throw it all away? Why did you Not. Want. To. Try?

grassbath

I knew I was going to love this from the chorus of the first song with the stretched word 'looooooove' clashing intentionally with the spiralling chords under it.

Have to be careful not to be put off this by ridiculous frothing hype and Pitchfork rushing to establish themselves custodians of the woke canon once again. But that would be a shame because it is great isnt it.

Golden E. Pump

'Shameika' is ace. It's got potential.
