I also love the idea of Dave Lister sivving out dimps from last night's lager.

Thats pretty fuckin vile

El Unicornio, mang

Withnail & I. All the more impressive that Richard E Grant had never smoked before.

Dewt

Don't drink, don't smoke, what does he do?

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

Yeah, he'd never gotten pissed before either, had he? You've got to hand it to the feller for his acting chops in this film.

El Unicornio, mang

He hadn't, but Robinson made him get drunk before they started shooting so he knew how it felt. Made him terribly sick but I guess it was worth it.

Autopsy Turvey

There's some great Hancock fag action, most notably in The Bedsitter, unsuccessfully trying to blow smoke rings, then holding it in a 'working class' way (between thumb and forefinger) and free-forming a character: "So I went down, I see this geezer... (drag) I say 'What's going on here then man?'... (drag) Ooh I've burned me lip!" On a similar theme, there's a scene where he's boasting to Sid that he's bought "two hundred for one and nine boy!" Then he lights one and it instantly burns away right up to his lips. "Mind, you get through a lot of them".

Sid James in Carry On Doctor of course.

Private Walker gets plenty of prime fag work, not least the shifty little drag in the closing credits.

El Unicornio, mang

One of my favourite Kramer moments. Worth watching the full thing, and the blooper take

To Have and Have Not has comedy elements yeah?

Vic Reeves inside Bob's Organ:

As he once explained to one of the lovely ladies on Shooting Stars: "It's my hobby too..."

Not comedy as such but I've been watching Whodunnit? recently and it has an incredible amount of smoking for a panel game! How late were people still smoking on panel games?

"...Er... do you have a light?"
"What do you want a light for? I just lit it!"
"...oh, well I don't want a light, I just wondered if he had a light."
"... ... ... I have no matches X("
"? I've just given you some matches!"
"These are your matches, they're not my matches!"

The thing is, I can't imagine either of them smoking in real life for some reason, so it's heartening to see such wonderful acting talent from our very own homegrown British actors.

Don't know about Jason, but as the forum's resident Nicolas Lyndhurst expert, I can confirm he is a smoker (or was, he might have given up in the last few years).

He smoked tons in Goodnight Sweetheart for seemingly no reason, which I always took to mean Lyndhurst was constantly dying for fags and the directors just let him smoke on set to keep his tantrums at bay.

I'm pretty certain Lyndhurst hasn't done a jot of acting in his whole life and people have just written stories and scenes around what he's needed to do at any given moment.

That's pretty unfair. As I say I've been watching OFAH for the first time in years, and at the time I thought he was shite. But on rewatch he is fucking hilarious.

I seem to remember Peter Cook and Stephen Fry puffing away on the first series of Whose Line...?, that would have been late eighties.

Captain Crunch

Marner and Me

Slash tabbed all the way through his appearance on Buzzcocks
Jeremy Clarkson sparked up as a guest presenter
Mark Lamarr had them all on cigars for a Hamlets piss take.

And how can you forget the Donny Tourette incident?

You want smoking and comedy? You'd have to go a long way to beat Tom Mullica.

Let's light up a Penn & Teller as well.

The original Penn and Teller smoking explanation on their channel 4 show was a masterpiece

Forgetting the whole Leary ripped off Hicks thing, if that's possible, I still enjoy both of these routines.

God, Leary was terrible.

Remember when they basically just let him rehash his stolen stand up routine in demolition man?
