As this exciting news article demonstrates, Her Who Plays Villanelle is going to get involved in Talking Heads- no, this thread doesn't belong in Oscillations, as I've amusingly alluded to in the thread title!!, but, of course, the " Talking Heads" will be various actors doing cover versions of them ones done by other actors in Alan Bennett's popular series from the late 80s. Wonder which accent she'll be doing? Her own lovely Scouse accent? That Posho Southern Counties one she likes doing ( you can tell)? Canadian with a hint of Lithuanian? It's all very exciting. Anyways, I'm sure she'll give good ( talking) head.

The series also seems to involve Martin Freeman playing Thora Hird, if my my memory of that original episode serves me.

This series sounds worth watching though, I'm sure the boys and girls of CaB agree.

I just wanted to make that really good " Psycho Killer" joke, to be honest.

Unless you mean what is point of re- doing these programmes with new actors? Nowt wrong with getting a bit of quality Alan Bennett writing onto the telly ( although I'd prefer it if they repeated those " Six Plays By Alan Bennett" from 1979).

I seem to remember a second series of " Talking Heads" from 1990, but none of them were written by yer man, and they were nowhere near as good as the original series . One episode contained David Jason saying " that bastard never slices".

what is point

dunno, sometimes it could be interesting to see a different actor play a famour monologue. like John Hurt's version of Krapp's Last Tape, things like that.

Single Voices (1990). Roy Clarke writing for Jason, Bob Larbey for George Cole, Carla Lane for Michael Angelis and Sheila Hancock, Barry Humphries & John Sessions writing for themselves.

They aren't doing a remake of 'Waiting for the Telegram' probably because the original couldn't be bettered.

With the possible exception of the last two, they all sound crap. I remember giving up on the series after that Jason one.

There was a second series of Talking Heads with six new monologues all written by Alan Bennett in 1998.

You do realise, luv, that the segment she'll be doing, originally performed by Julie Walters, involves a struggling actress who gets yoked into appearing in soft porn?

Great relief to find Mark Gatiss is not involved with this, nor are any of the other vicarious geeks who now dominate TV drama. Idiots make pathetic jokes about Bennett and tea and biscuits, tweeness etc but there's much more to him than today's overpraised award winners. The adorable Jewess Tamsin Greig's participation, no doubt necessitating her entrancing, pleading eyes looking to camera, should prove rather pleasant.

^ I appreciate the information you've given me in that post, luv, and I'm always ready to defend you against any detractors you may have on 'ere, as I think you're a great bunch of lads, but you * might* want to do some judicious editing on your above contribution.

( You could re- write, for example " Top  attractive actress and real- life rendered  Ronald Searle cartoon , the lovely Tamsin Grieg", summat like that.)

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

Oh, and it's Martin Freeman playing the role of yer actual Alan Bennett in his own cover of the TH original. My mistake, soz.
