Andrew was interviewed by Ethan and Hila on their h3h3 YouTube channel and revealed a lot about how it's put together. He seemed generally disappointed with how some of the conventions turned out, and it seemed the discomfort at points is real. There was also a genuine fondness for a lot of the subjects who appear in the videos, turns out most of the oddballs have quite tragic life stories.

It's very gonzo and I love weird American subcultures and movements. It could only be filmed in America.

Proud Boys.

Pretty depressing stuff really. It's better when he does old Louis Theroux weird shit.

Naw, I thought that was great as well.  Dunno about the journalistic integrity of constantly jump-cutting to Proud Violence, but there were still a lot of nice, humane moments, like when Andrew fist-bumped the guy even after he declared No Gas All Brakes on the interview.  It's weird how there are so many recurring motifs in all of these, like statuesque Russian ladies with curdled brains.

Cutaways are a little cheap.  I'm not saying the events didn't happen, but these people will happily dig their own graves without splicing their interviews with them.  Plus, I admit, I was thinking about how they'd set up future AGNB interviews, as everyone at these events is starting to anticipate their arrival, and I wouldn't exactly be happy talking to someone who's gonna cut away to a clip of a writhing rat king every other word I say.  Point is I genuinely think they're above the grotty tabloid tactics that did my heroes in this last couple of years.  I'm pretty sure I've heard Andrew Callaghan say that he has nothing at all to do with the editing.

There were a lot of 'press' there at this rally. When I watched this it linked to a Vice story covering the same event in my YouTube sidebar. In the Vice video they interviewed the same people more or less from the Proud Boys and offered some space to Counter-Protesters in the area.

Apparently (per the AGNB subreddit) it's these guys he's referring to https://www.doingthingsmedia.com/brands/ - so not Tim & Eric's Absolutely production company he recently signed with.

Would imagine he'll keep doing his thing under a new name

Ah yeah I was concerned this was drama to do with Absolutely at first.

? Someone bought his 'brand' and now he cannot create content under that name? So they'll get Piers Morgan in an ill-fitting suit and wig to do the show instead to bring in the big bucks?

Yeah, sounds like. Not so much that they bought the brand but that he produced everything work-for-hire, so they would own everything he made. End result is that he rebrands and the audience follows the talent, so no massive loss, but oh well.

Aye, on Office Hours last week, Tim mentioned that they're still doing a thing with Andrew from AGNB, but no details yet.

Yeah, sounds like. Not so much that they bought the brand but that he produced everything work-for-hire, so they would own everything he made. End result is that he rebrands and the audience follows the talent, so no massive loss, but oh well.

This is my reading of that Instagram post also.
