When you look at her statement, you see that a main reason she wanted the job, is now gone.

Quote from: Jenny FormbyWhen I applied for the role of general secretary in 2018 it was because I wanted to support Jeremy Corbyn, who inspired so many people to get involved in politics with his message of hope, equality and peace.

Kind of wish he wasn't as wishy-washy. He's reasonably good at PMQs but he's just not very interesting. Seems to be dealing with the whole antisemitism thing OK though, if anything.

Well, he wrote that letter, I guess, and promised to go hard on it. Corbyn did as well, though. Meh. Things are just so dull all round, aren't they.

Yeah, he did.  If I didn't know better I'd think that the old AS wasn't at the root.  It's almost as if it was being used as a way of undermining someone because they had other beliefs and policies that were dangerous to the attackers' agenda, policies the attackers know Starmer won't go near.  Popular policies that the attackers couldn't openly attack, without showing their hand publicly, that sort of thing.

Also, Starmer doesn't have Iain McNicol and Emilie Oldknow and their little friends dealing with AS.  That has to help.

Fucking hell, this makes me sad.

And worried:

QuotePotential candidates to succeed Formby are thought to include the Unite political director, Anneliese Midgley, the Unison official Emilie Oldknow and GMB's director of external relations, Lisa Johnson.

Allies of Oldknow and Johnson say it is no coincidence that they have been linked to recent controversies after they were flagged as potential successors to Formby.

Oldknow has been accused making inappropriate comments about colleagues in the controversial antisemitism report being investigated by the NEC.

Johnson has been closely connected to Tim Roache, the recently resigned GMB general secretary who is under investigation for inappropriate conduct. Her supporters insist she was among the senior figures pushing for his resignation in recent days.

I've a horrible feeling we're going to regret that split in the left vote in the NEC election.

People in my local party, people who believed in Corbyn and campaigned against Blair, genuinely believe that the first thing Starmer wants to do is unite the party. I trust these people yet am disappointed with almost everything the man has done. I want to be able to believe in Starmer and the first sentence in this thread would piss me off if I didn't think it was at least partly a joke, but how can anyone square him wanting to unite Labour with him still wanting Oldknow? Every day I believe less and less that he'll keep the 10 pledges.

On a positive note, Ed Miliband came out with some decent stuff today.

Go on Starmer, take Oldknow. Get her out of my fucking union, your party is dead to me anyway.

Not really. Maybe clutching at straws but his comments about coming out of this with an army of green workers to transform the country sounded pretty good. In fact, the more I think about it, it was pretty great. A definite glimmer.

idunnosomename

Oldknow is the worst Blairite scum going who just wants things better for her and worse for the plebs. If she moves up I'm not signing up to this shitshow anymore.

It's amazing how bad Starmer has been at this point. If you told me a year ago that Starmer would be leader I wouldnt expect him to be quite this shitty. but the lack of media focus of him really shows how fucking frightened the establishment were of Crobbins

Absorb the anus burn

I feel much the same... If Oldknow gets the job then it would be fucking impossible to remain a member.

idunnosomename

has she done anything? at all? i've had a few emails from the burgon campaign recently (as I supported it) but I've seen nothing of her since she got elected and even then it wasn't much

glad I didn't throw her a 2nd place vote after burgon because I thought she was good in the corbyn shadow cabinet/v fit

I think it would be worth staying on for the NEC elections and seeing if there's any hope of sorting that out. Another option is legal action against the party to recover membership fees. I don't know how plausible that is. But if there's no success on either of those counts, I don't really see the point in staying.

The Blairites don't want you there. Your continued presence, with voting rights, annoys them.

Blinder Data

I would be astonished if Oldknow gets the gig. People are talking up UNITE's Anneliese Midgley at the mo.

is to be applauded. But there may be no way to eradicate the anti-semitism that lies deep within the current Labour Party as it is so virulently anti-capitalist, so staunchly opposed to basic Judeo-Christian ideals and so violently anti-Israel.

I oppose everything this person holds dear.

I mean, that's a fucking trope.

That's the way I'm feeling. Want to see the result of the enquiry, NEC elections and who Starmer chooses as Gen Sec. If he chooses Oldknow or anyone from the leaked report, it would show such utter disdain for the membership. I think it's important to not get angry about this as it's not happened and I don't think it will. I think barring that, I'll stay. If a party's good enough for Corbyn, McDonnell, the Socialist Campaign Group, then I'm not going to walk away. Will be hard to summon up much passion though.
