Hellup!

So...checked a few pages back and do not see any threads Re a 6 year old game, must be buried beyond the 10+ pages I searched so....
Is anyone still playing this Gem? Sinbad and I logged back on after an absence of many moons and discovered Rockstar have done a great job keeping this game current!

We've just started Lester's Heists and if anyone here on the XBone wants to join us let me know. Sunday late afternoon/early evening (UK) works for our current Time zones so let me know if your'e down to rob a bank or clear out that new Casino.

GT: VegaLA, naturally!

Oh and Hi bods, how you all doing?

Abnormal Palm

Welcome back. I don't play GTAO but blast from the past, my dude. Hope you're well.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Nearly made the same thread so thanks for taking that bullet but I'm on PC unfortunately.
Any other pc players wanting to play at some point give us a yell. Just reinstalled it and it'd be nice to have something to do in a private game rather than just wander round waiting to be remotely caged and set on fire by modders

Rizla

I'll still log in a few nights a week for a run around but i'm on PS4. I've got the casino, the arcade, the zancudo bunker, all that, but I've never finished any of the missions :-( Surprised they've not done anything virus-themed.

Alberon

I loved loved the single player campaign, but I always struggled with the online bit.

I actually reinstalled GTA Online last week and had a good time arsing about, but the missions dragged and I uninstalled it again after a couple of days. Load times for the game and missions that rival those of a ZX Spectrum didn't help either.

Heads up!

GTA 5 (PC) is now FREE from Epic Games. Their site crashed earlier but I was able to get on now.

Go.....go now!

Cold Meat Platter

Got this free on the epic store days ago and started installing: my internet is shit, 3 Mb at best. After about 4 days it was up to 70 GB out of 94GB (!). I tried to resume the download today after a restart.

Nope. Back to the beginning. Ashamed to say I let out a rude vocalisation.

Your new engine looks nice epic, with twelvety billion triangles and thanks for the free game and all that but could you fix your launcher please? Maybe look at steam, gog and other platforms to see where you are going wrong.

Uncle TechTip

Yours to keep forever as well, what a time to be alive.

Do it before May 21.

VegaLA

Having issues with this actually...but not sure if its down to the (0x80080005) problem I am currently experiencing. The Online loading screen just seems to play forever but when I switch to story mode it works fine. I know my GTA is slower to start on the XB1 as well but not stuck like this one is. Wondering if its something to do with my Social club account as it insisted I log on using that.

Still, I am able to thieve in Los Santos using my XB1 so can't complain too much...

The influx of new players broke Rockstar's servers. Fixed now, apparently.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Yeah back on now. Enjoying part of a heist that's just driving somewhere half way  across the map so some poor sods doing it while I sit here and check my emails with a cup of tea.

CaB heist soon?

Edit. Connection dropped that'll teach me

AWESOME news.

I'll give this a try tonight thanks.

YES Mr. Skeleton...I think a CaB heist is in order!

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Having a lot more fun on this than last time mostly because I finally realised (had it pointed out to me by a very angry heist companion) that you stock up on snacks and multiple body armours so you can keep your health up during the heavier going missions etc which has made it much more relaxing.

Been mostly enjoyable apart from the sessions where someone makes it rain giant aeroplanes, blows everything up and crashes the entire game!

The constant phone calls from characters badgering you to buy a nightclub etc just as you're trying to shoot someone in freemode is incredibly fucking annoying too.

Also this is taking up way too much time I should be working so anyone fancying a game in the next week let me know before i uninstall

Barry Admin

I had a trick to cancel the snack eating animation. Think I'd just do it in cover if I recall correctly.

Cover, while shooting and while driving all work.

Certain masks also worked for a while, but I think they removed that.

Was just thinking earlier:

I wonder if the stats for cop-killing have radically spiked in the last few days?

El Unicornio, mang

I had never played GTA online in any form until about a week ago, thought I'd give it a go with GTA V. Got killed pretty much instantly every time and gave up after about 20 matches. I'd like to try again but feel like I'm too far behind everyone else to catch up. Is there a way to match with people of similar skill/beginners?

VegaLA

Not sure about that Mr. Unicorn, what system are you playing on?

Xbox One I usually get lucky on the #3RD try. If there are too many kids griefing I'll duck out of that session and by the 3RD session most of the players just mind their business so you can go about your day uninterrupted.

I'll give the PC version another try but was not working for me last week still...

I'm on PC. Took advantage of that Epic Games free download offer mentioned earlier in the thread! Previously just had an offline only version

I only started online when the lockdown started (I'd played a tiny bit before that but was literally on about level 4), at first it can feel quite overwhelming and unfair when you're wandering around with shit guns and no access to the better missions while people are able to blow you to fuck with rocket launchers, but it's all quite fluid and you can start making decent money fairly quickly. I'm on level 52 now with a slick apartment - unnecessary if you're looking to advance quickly but nice to have - an office and a vehicle warehouse, and can make $200k in an hour without much hassle now...not much in the grand scheme of things as some people are making multiple millions daily, but enough to get you competitive.

Keep an eye out for the weekly bonuses - certain jobs get double or even triple money and RP each week, which can help you advance quickly. The Weeny Issi stunt races are triple money and RP this week, so as long as you finish the course you're guaranteed a decent payout. I finished 11th of 12th yesterday (I'm shite) and still got something like $6k for ten minutes work, I think the people who finished in the top three got $50k or so.

Also, while there is no way of ensuring you get paired with people of a similar level, the game does have a sort of honour system which punishes you for attacking other human players when you're in free mode, and persistent offenders will be put in lobbies with other persistent offenders, while 'good sports' will be put into lobbies together - reducing the chance of you being randomly blown to fuck by someone with an attack helicopter. In my experience what this really amounts to is that the majority of the time people won't deliberately chase you down to try to kill you, but if you cross their paths they probably still will, presumably because they think you might do the same to them.

I don't mind that though, as it makes the occasional moment of pleasantry more rewarding - last night I stopped next to a guy and beeped my horn, then took a risk by getting out of my car. He could have killed me there and then but he didn't, so I displayed my peaceful intentions by climbing on top of my car and smashing the roof in with a baseball bat. In a show of solidarity, the other guy then climbed on top of his car and started smashing it up with a golf club. I know this all sounds very silly, and it is, but there was something weirdly heart-warming about this dumb non-aggression pact.

EDIT: Other easy ways to advance quickly - complete the daily objectives (there are three per day, usually easy to achieve) which will earn you $30k, and a trip to the casino gets you a visitor bonus if you go to the cashier - you can immediately cash it out, only $1k but not bad for five seconds' work - and a free 'Lucky Spin' (the big wheel next to the cashier) which gets you a random prize, anything from pointless clothes to $40k or even a prize car. It's weighted in favour of the less lucrative prizes, but I've hit the $40k and the car a few times each.

Utter Shit

Also, me and a mate had great fun the other day creating comedy characters in the game. I made Delboy and he made Mr. Bean (the photo was taken before he got the hair changed). Good craic.

El Unicornio, mang

Thanks, I'll give it another go. I like the idea of these more fun elements. It was good seeing some of the wacky characters people had created for themselves, mine's boring af right now (basically modelled it on myself) so will have to spruce it up a bit. There seems to be a lot of different elements to explore in the online play as well. I did the one where you're in that kind of neon driving area trying to protect a truck, did quite well on that. I'm definitely better at the driving than the shooting, possibly as I play quite a lot of driving games.

Utter Shit

Yeah I'm better at the driving games too - the Open Wheel races (basically F1 cars) are good fun. You're right that there is an insane amount to do nowadays...some of it is pretty shit (Arena Wars in particular is way less fun than it should be IMO) but there are tons of fun things to do even in Free Mode. I got into vehicle exporting as I was told it was a good way of making money, but it's really good fun too so doesn't feel like a grind.

EDIT: Just remembered another tip - if you do the bounty hunting missions for Maude, she will send you on a treasure hunt at the end. Sign up to Rockstar Social Club (this is essential) and then employ the treasure item for its intended use. I'm trying not to ruin the surprise so that might be too vague, if you're stuck then let me know and I'll make it more obvious!

Utter Shit

Rich Uncle Skeleton

How the hell people can control any car in this game is beyond me. Bikes all the way.

I'm weak and haven't uninstalled this yet, had a fair few sessions crash as usual thanks to some modder dumping dozens of massive planes on the map. However someone dropped 600 grand on top of me last night, not going to say no to that after all I've been through on here(!)

PC users ,  my social name is SingingLemon if anyone wants to add

Barry Admin

Cars and bikes? Be a real man and get a fleet of helicopters. That's what's really tempting me to reinstall, actually. I haven't done any flying in games for aaaages, and I'm a huge chopper fiend. Buzzard should be one of your first big purchases, massively useful and brilliant.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

haha a fleet, you say! sod that I've never bothered putting in the hours to buy somewhere to keep even one of the bloody things. the buzzard is great though only tried it the first time last night. good to have the rockets, i'm shit with helicopter machine guns , just swing side to side in the air spraying wildly hoping something happens..

Barry Admin

Bewildering game to return to but it quickly came back to me. Ended up doing some bunker stuff and haven't checked out the new things yet, I haven't played since before the casino was finally added.

Anyway yeah, a fleet is right :-) I still have 2m cash and loads of duped cars stored around the map that I can flog.

Once you become a CEO you can call in your Buzzard anywhere, very cool. Same with the MC club and your motorbikes, so I was flying about on my Oppressor for a bit.

Gonna take one of my choppers out for a spin now and have a look at the new vehicles.

Barry Admin

God I'd forgotten how many cool toys I have. My pride and joy is my Akula, a stealth chopper which is amazing fun to stalk and kill people in. I have my own Hunter though! The Havok, an insane speedy little chopper that is hard to land without toppling over and crashing but really fun to fly. Wow my own Hydra jet, and the two-man Pyro.

Got the flying Delorean knocking about somewhere too. Vega, I'll have to meet up and give you guys a play with my toys sometime.

Barry Admin

Holy shit there's an Oppressor Mk II now. Looks like I'll have to cash in some dupes and buy a nightclub, Terrorbyte and new flying jet bike!
