I've found a nice gang of people to play the game with now (although I hope a few more of you decide to reinstall it or whatever, it'd be nice to have some CaB shenanigans). I was in the only actively hiring crew on GTAForums for a bit, but they were called Great Boob Divide and I felt a bit silly as a 45 year old man in a crew with that name.

That sounds like a lot of fun! I've had GTA5 on Steam for ages without actually playing it... I got pretty tasty on GTA4 last year - I even managed to get a perfect game on the bowling! I might fire it up and see how well my graphics card handles it.

I've been in a Discord server with the people I mentioned above, chatting and sharing memes (well, they share memes, I can't be bothered). The glue of the whole group is a friendly modder who's given us all god knows how many millions of $, and most evenings there are a few people on just messing about, doing sales or whatever. It's fun.

But said friendly modder is a drunk, and when he gets a good way into a bottle of vodka, every session turns into chaos; also, he uses "Democrat" as an insult and is one of those "Mark Zuckerberg paid Democrats to riot in Washington" conspiracy believers. I've pushed back as much as I can be bothered to, considering I have no real tie to this group of people, but I think I'll be moving on soon. Also, the one bloke in the chat who insists on doing a terrible English accent every time I come on is starting to piss me off too.

Rizla

Sounds like a laugh. Whenever I play GTAO I seem to get in a sesh with the bloke/child who leaves his mic open, blaring loud music whilst his wife or mum shouts at him in Paraguyan or some shit, although recently I had some london youth who kept calling me racist names (prob due to my ambiguously middle-eastern sounding username) and insinuating I lived in poverty, it was quite thrilling for a bit.

Famous Mortimer

I ended up muting the user speech in the server for precisely that reason.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

reinstalled this the other day and I'm loving this new loading time. however I swear every second session I join is a bloody nightmare, the modding seems to have (somehow) got even worse in the last few months.

Famous Mortimer

It's been nice seeing you about, we ought to do some missions or something.

It's because of the extended time since the update. More and more mod menus are getting updated for the patch. It's part of why I quit last year, we seemed to be in the sunset of the game with no anticheat solutions or new updates in sight. When they DID update the game I just couldnae be fucked.

I've just installed this on xbone[nb]it's now on gamepass[/nb] and having last played it on the 360 what are the main differences?

Apart from 1st person view and cats that is.

Improved custom race track design tools.
You can be a CEO and deal stolen goods & stolen cars.
You can run a Motorcycle Gang and deal assorted drugs and forged items.
You can be a Gun Runner.
You can become a Smuggler.
You can run a Nightclub and generate cash from your other businesses passively.
You can do a series of 3 complex heists that have a narrative running through them. Unlike the first heists these have a 2-4 player range.
You can take part in weaponised vehicular combat at the sports arena.
The Casino was renovated.
You can win a different car weekly at the Casino.
You can buy a retro arcade and use it to conduct a Casino heist.
You can buy a Russian submarine and repeatedly rob a drug baron on a brand new island. You can do this heist solo. And you will eventually get it down so efficiently that you don't have to do any of the aforementioned ways to make money ever again.

What would be a good place to start with all that? I logged on for the first time in a few years and was a bit overwhelmed with everything, I gave one of the heist missions a go with some randos and you can guess how that turned out. Anything good to do as a single player? I'll probably just end up doping racing all the time again.

Famous Mortimer

I'd suggest the CEO / motorcycle gang stuff, to start with. Buy a clubhouse or an office; then you can buy, say, a weed growing place, and do resupply missions to fill up with supplies, then when those supplies have been turned into product, do a sales mission to sell it.

The issue with the heists, dispatch missions, all that sort of thing, is you just need one rando in each group to completely mess things up and have you waste time. Some of them, judging by how busy the lobbies for them still are, must be pretty substantial bottlenecks.

If you're on PC, I don't mind joining you for a bit and running through some stuff with you.

Coke lockup is the one to go for, as I recall. I didn't bother with the rest until I got the nightclub, and then it does it for you, if I remember correctly. But biker businesses are pretty shit all round; bunker is great passive income. Vehicle warehouse very, very good.

Famous Mortimer

Sort of. I think the two things are separate - https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/Motorcycle_Clubs - like, your nightclub warehouse people accrue goods separately from the outside businesses you have. But now I think about it, I might be completely wrong.

BeardFaceMan

Some of that sounds familiar, i may have some of those businesses, it's been so long I can't even remember what Ive bought. Neil, I remember you trying to teach me how to load into an empty lobby so no twats blow you up as you go about your business so I must have something.

Famous Mortimer

There's parts of the game I forget I've not even touched, after hundreds of hours - like, I had a call last night from the bloke who wants me to buy a hangar. Presumably there'll be all sorts of fun plane-based activities that are unlocked after you buy one (I'm saving up for a nice one though).

Famous Mortimer

I just watched a few videos of one of the FiveM roleplaying servers, and it looks...well, I'm not sure what it's like, really. Like, there seem to be people who just work in convenience stores, which must be a bit boring if no-one goes in.

Fry

I last completed GTA V's story mode way back when it was released on X360. Thought it was time to give it another go so I bought it again on PS4.

I logged on to GTA Online and got that familiar thing that happens whenever you log into a very old, but still active, online game for the first time. Where you're inundated with thousands of symbols and events and texts and emails, from all the updates and content additions of the last 8 years. It's all a bit daunting. So I have a few questions if you don't mind.

Where is the best place to start? What's the difference between the missions that Gerald bloke is giving and the ones that Chinese lady is giving? I was given a bunch of money because I bought the premium edition of the game, what's best to buy first?

Tokyo van Ramming

Great questions.

If you haven't already seen it you can get $1M for free on the PS4 once a month until GTA V is launched on PS5, from the PS Store.

Famous Mortimer

It's a decent idea to do some of the treasure hunt things first, I reckon. You'll make some money, get familiar with the landscape again and get a few half-decent unlocks.

First thing to buy should probably be a bunker. You can research upgrades for weapons, have some fun resupply and sales mini-missions, that sort of thing.

I was second in the world on one of them, so I can't.

The new tracks are great, but because they're quite busy (3x $ and RP on them for the week) there's always a couple of idiots in every race. And one guy who beats everyone by 30 seconds.

evilcommiedictator

What is the go with random bullshit sky high parkour tracks and tracks involving inverted flying? The girlfriend watches them on youtube, and I avoid GTA 5 online like the plague due to RockStar Online PC, so do you need to join special servers or summin?

Sounds like the 'Transform Races' category: you're assigned different vehicles - land, sea or air - during the stages of the race, and passing waypoints may require you to fly upside-down, to one side, etc.
