Sounds like the 'Transform Races' category: you're assigned different vehicles - land, sea or air - during the stages of the race, and passing waypoints may require you to fly upside-down, to one side, etc.

What is the go with random bullshit sky high parkour tracks and tracks involving inverted flying? The girlfriend watches them on youtube, and I avoid GTA 5 online like the plague due to RockStar Online PC, so do you need to join special servers or summin?
They're player-made tracks, but Rockstar are quite okay with people doing it, and you can play them as part of the normal game (you can search for races, make playlists of different sorts, all that). I think you need to prove to Rockstar that you can actually complete the track before they'll publish it, though.

In terms of special servers, as long as you've got a working version of GTA V on your PC, you can get FiveM and Rage MP going. They host all manner of special servers, with the biggest thing at the moment being roleplay (RP). A lot of them give you a ton more activities to do (like being a delivery driver, or a bin man, or fishing) as well as driving about in a fast car and doing crimes. I joined one the other day and it got me to download a huge chunk of extra stuff, which I think is extra clothing options, weapons, cars, and building interiors, so there's that. Like, there's a server where everyone RPs being in the John Wick universe, which wouldn't be my first choice but seems popular enough.

I met a friendly modder after a month or so of playing, and he happily dropped millions and millions on my head, to the point where I have all the stuff your character can buy and tons of cars. If you're not that lucky, there's a bit of a grind, as the amount of money you're given for doing stuff has (largely) not gone up since the game's creation, but the cost of everything has. Like, all the good cars are over $2,000,000 (up to $5,000,000) but you get ten grand (roughly) for completing an activity. Which is why I'm going to give one of the RP servers a try, as soon as I've dreamed up an interesting character.

Famous Mortimer

The problem with the RP servers is that the RageMP ones don't have NPCs in them, so the city looks empty (there can be up to 600 players at once, I think, but in a city that size unless you're in one of the main hubs, you may never see another person); and the popular 5M ones are so massively oversubscribed that you don't stand a chance of getting in, unless you're prepared to pay, are famous, etc.

So I went back to do more racing, but have found it a pretty non-stop stream of griefers and idiots. Also, I've been on the back row of the grid for a solid 50% of the races I take part in, and almost never outside the back half of the grid. Given it is, apparently, random, this feels influenced by some outside force, like I was accidentally mean to a mod once and they set my luck to "bad".

Apparently the popularity of role playing in GTA Online is massively influencing where the series goes next. Prepare to have to have a job in the future GTA online universe.

I want there to be more activities in the game that aren't related to crime or whatever, so I'd be cool with this - as long as they either pay you a decent amount or reduce the price of things.

Natnar

So when would be a realistic date for GTA 6? 2/3 years time? Or sooner?

mobias

If I was a betting man I'd say we'll see a first trailer later in 2022 with a release date penned in for later in 2023, though there will be the inevitable Rockstar delay which will push it into 2024. Thats my prediction.

The new gen release of GTAV later this year should keep people happy though. Lots of new bells and whistles. It'll be the same old map but I'm wondering if we'll get get an add on. A GTAIV Liberty City sized add on for example

I've applied to one of the bigger RP servers, but they've rejected me twice now, blaming the quality of my "how would you RP this situation?" responses. I felt like saying "look, you bunch of fucking toerags, I've been playing RPGs longer than 99% of you have been alive, I know how to do it" but I've decided not to bother. Perhaps it's the wrong environment for me, or perhaps I should find a game exclusively played by depressed comedy fans. Or set my own up!

Its truly inspiring how seriously some people take these things. I love delving into these fringe corners of online gaming and seeing whats there. I was reading recently that to get onto certain servers of DCS World (Digital Combat Simulator) you have to go through a two week long ground school being tutored by another player who's above a certain rank, which you have to pay for, and then at the end pass a test which is notoriously difficult to pass. All just to get onto an online game server.

Famous Mortimer

I presume they've been stung by people who are just taking the piss before, and popularity may have gone to their heads a little. So be it. I got the feeling that they were looking for a certain sort of response, which I didn't provide - it was fairly open ended, I went one way, clearly everyone they accept goes the other. No criticism of them, though, it's good they're so passionate about it.

I do like the idea of online RP, though.

I've been banned from RPG server "The Family", and I'd only gotten as far as submitting an application. After the last time, I took their criticisms of my previous application and incorporated it into this one, imagining a Seinfeld and George style conversation in a car surrounded by gunmen, as one of them mentions being rejected by an online roleplaying game. Not going to win any awards, but I thought it was okay. Apparently not. Maybe there's a super-secret "no ripping off the format of beloved sitcoms for your RP example" rule that I fell foul of.

I was accepted on GTA World, but I can't be bothered with text based RP. And I tried Eclipse, but because it's RageMP, there are no NPCs around, meaning the city is essentially empty. There seems no point trying NoPixel, as it's full of "famous" streamers and I assume their fans are clogging up the application process.

I love me some online role play but GTA RP seems like total arse.

Also I'm a cynic and I'll say ye shouldn't get excited for any major upgrades to the PC (or even the next gen) versions of GTAV beyond maybe texture size increases and probably more bugs that will fuck the game irrevocably.

I've seen good and terrible people. I've seen a few videos from one streamer, and I'm starting to recognise the voices of the people who seem to be there to just drum up shit. Like, they're always "this person told me they hate you", so it occasionally comes across as nothing more than the Sopranos set in high school (which I know was an SNL sketch, and this version isn't funny either). Well, I assume a lot of it is people trying to get involved in the activities of (famous streamer X) so they can get more views on their own stream. I figure if I can find one without too many annoying kids pretending to be 18, I should be good. I have yet to do so.

I tend to agree. Weren't they supposed to be rebuilding the entire city using the RDR2 engine, for the next gen releases? Something like that.

Not rebuilding it as such but it is getting a big graphics overhaul I believe, with ray tracing and stuff like that. I think the code is getting re-tooled with DX12 optimisation so it can better use multi core processing. So it should hit 60FPS at 4K on console. Combined with the new graphics effects that will be quite incredible for those that haven't experienced it before.

Plus my own hunch is that there will be other goodies added to it too. My money is on Liberty City being added to the map for GTA Online.

Just found this thread. Started playing GTA Online on release but was bamboozled by it's do-anything (resulting in me doing nothing) nature and brutality.

Picked it up a couple of years later after it had been added to and it made a lot more sense, I've got two mates who I regularly play with and they're proper grinders, businesses, bunkers, submarines all over the place, one mate has spent tens of millions on cars alone. For years I was a 1-car guy, a perfect looking and spec'd Annis Savestra, a car I've still got and love.

I decided to invest some of my ill-gotten millions in a better house and garage and concoct my perfect 10 car collection, mostly based around classics I love in real life, a racing M3, an Escort-a-like, a cool little Alfa GTA clone with racing stickers and a roof rack. I don't really go in for the modern cars.

Best of all is my Group B Audi Quattro, which I've made into a strada version, black with no spoiler or livery, it's not the fastest car in the game but it's rapid and sticks to the road.

I've just invested in an office and a Buzzard, to get around more easily. If I was on my own I would have done this years ago but since my crew do all the hard work for me I've never needed to, and frankly the time and money drain of investing in cargo missions doesn't really work for me, early on in it's life turning $500k into $1m in an evening would have been massive but now I can just ask a crew member to set up a high stakes heist and we can earn twice that and have a lot more fun doing it.

I totally get this now, early on I'd play for a laugh, in need of a quick fix, but I finally understand the desire to set up a business and work for your bread, drive to the casino for a spin on the wheel (no fast travel), and generally inhabit your avatar a lot more holistically.

The next gen GTAO is going to be great.

Malcy

What is everyone playing on? Picking up a Xbox One tomorrow and GTAV is one of the games. Be good to get back into the online although all the daft shit put me off.

Will be starting a character from new which is a bollocks as my 360 character was minted with everything in the game and 9000+ armours and snacks etc from modders. I do feel I'm actually pretty good at it though so if anyone needs anyone for heists etc then happy to help.

Malcy

Finally got a shot of this after a 35GB update which took too long for me to give a shit. No idea what I was doing. Way more to it than there was on the 360. Couldn't even buy armour in Ammu-Nation! Think it will take a while to get used to again.

I'm on Xbox and occasionally jump on. I'm in the ACAB crew and look to invite others if I'm on a job or whatever. I always found the jobs to be a fairly profitable way to grind, especially since I seem to be quite good at the Tron bike thing.

Yeah I've seen a few things about that. Is that the Deadline arena?

Deadline, that's the one. It's double money this week it seems. My trick is always to be a little conservative and not to try to monster everyone at every opportunity, but to lay crafty little traps with one eye on the map. I like the one amongst the skyscrapers and tend to try to create loops where I bounce off the buildings creating gaps too small to get through. Also leaving a bit of room to be able to slow down and 180 if I need to. The bunnyhop and speed boosts are useful if you are about to get one over on someone too.

Malcy

That 3x RP & money thing is good. Done one of those Stockpile missions and went up from Rank 21 to 25 and made 105k.

Famous Mortimer

Nice. I did the 3x RP and $ thing for Issi Classic races, and made a million one day (a full race of 30, finishing first, would get you over $100k).

Malcy

Finally bought a garage and a car after a week of playing. Well I say bought, I noticed there was a load of free stuff on the websites. Have just over 900k now and need to start looking into bunkers and the like and see what's best.

Have been in mostly good lobbies, attacked rarely. The constant texts and phone calls are a right pain in the arse though.

At the current stage of the game, I would recommend aiming to get the Kosatka ASAP. It will cost $2,200,000, but once you have it you will be able to do the Cayo Perico Heist.

Done solo you can rake in $1+ million every single time. And eventually you'll get the knack of it to where you can complete the set up and the heist in 1-2 hours.

Nothing else will get you cash faster than that, and you can then use it to buy into the other parts of the game DLC you've missed out on and thus end all those annoying text messages.

Brilliant, thanks for that. Hit $1m yesterday after a week so will keep on at it although I am getting a little bored of it as it's either the same contact missions or empty races so this should be a great help.

Malcy

Not much of a fan of the new Survival maps. 2xRP and money this week and they still don't net you much. Was looking into the collectibles around the map. The action figures would net you $100k and 100,000 RP which sounds like a no brainier so going to do that for a while. Shouldn't take long anyway and it's a great RP boost.

Few youtube vids out there showing you how to solo ten waves on some of the maps. Yet to do it, but seems an easy rinser for cash

Famous Mortimer

I like survival when you're doing it with friends, it's a bit pointless if you're doing it with randos as you can guarantee one of them will do something stupid in the first ten seconds.

The action figures, the bounty hunting, and signal jammers, are all a bit of fun and net you decent rewards too.
