Pales compared to RDO in terms of immersive value, but then RDO lacks the same level of content. Mash the two games together. Winner.

Related, I'm still yet to complete the deliver EMP mission because of assorted random idiots. Literally just shouted at the TV as some nobber managed to lose all the lives on the drive up.

I've joined a few heist missions that I know I've done before but haven't finished a single one due to people arsing about. It's annoying enough when your a participant but when your the Heist leader it's worse. Especially if you're waiting ages to get a full team.

Have found the casino the most enjoyable part of it so far. Nice 150k on Inside Track the other day. Shame you can't bet millions on it like in San Andreas. Horse names aren't as good either. No sign of Shatner's Bassoon or No Wasps.

Can't say I enjoy the increased capacity of the sessions either. Sometimes it full of flying bikes, helicopters and jets causing mayhem. Was going to join a solo session to go collect all the figures, playing cards etc in peace but can't see the option for it anymore.

Anyone had a look at the new update yet? All I've seen so far is there's new collectibles and you can edit the radio station wheel to take out the ones you don't listen to.

Full list of stuff added here.

Interested to see what this will be.

QuotePlus, in honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar has announced that GTA Online will receive some fun surprises related to the genre-defining GTA 3 itself.

It remains to be seen what these GTA III surprises are about. We'll add more details here as soon as we find out.

Got an Auto Shop with Prime Gaming. Money to come as well and noticed that a 1.2m car has a 80% discount with it as well and sells for 750k or thereabouts. If I could buy a load of them and sell them I might be able to make 500k per car. Hope it works.

I've done a few tuner races and I'm either very bad at them or every single person I'm racing against has a fully modded car. It feels like I'm going to need to learn to drive in a completely different way, as they all handle like complete ass with me driving them like a "normal" GTA car.

The Karin Calico GTF is technically the fastest, but turns out I am far too incompetent to drive it safely with its huge under steer. I then did a quick Cayo Perico and bought the Dinka Jester RR instead and that's a lot more fun to drive.

The street races definitely feel better designed in terms of challenging your driving, but because they left all the street furniture in it's still not as good as the best community designed races. Too often it ends up with the leader knocking detritus in their wake and rest of the racers having to avoid it.

Famous Mortimer

I'm moderately interested in how the grid positioning for races is decided. I know there's some confirmation bias in this, but I've been on the back row of the grid way, way more often than I've been even in the top half. I'm rarely the "best" racer by wins; not the highest level; and I'm not the last person to join the lobby. The only other variable I've found anyone mention is connection quality, but I've got no idea if mine is consistently the worst or not.

Anyway, I'm still terrible at the tuner races.

Malcy

The worst part of the tuner races is the amount of people who don't race but sit at different points of the track waiting for everyone to pass and then just crash into them or block the track.

I got really pissed off with it and didn't go back to them. Won a few though. Bought the Criminal enterprise starter pack. Been doing loads of supply stealing missions. Waiting for a quiet lobby to attempt selling the stock though.

Malcy

The Autoshop contract's are good for quick cash I'm finding. Around 170k average for a quick couple of missions. Done the first one solo in about 20 minutes. The 2 characters that give you the missions are a monumental pain in the arse though.

If you can solo them, I might give them a go. I've given up on the tuner races, it felt like too many people were too much better than me straight away, not sure I have the patience to get good.

I just bought this game. I've finished solo mode and now I've begun to dip my toe in Online. Naive question, but am I able to play through all of the last 8 years of content (the heists) sequentially, or am I locked out from it as a latecomer?

Famous Mortimer

You have to do them in a certain order until you've done them all, I think.

The original heists have to initially be played in a certain order.
The three Doomsday Heists have to be played initially in a certain order too. You can do these without doing any of the original heists.
The Casino Heists you can pick and choose from 3 approaches.
Cayo Perico Heist you can customise your approach every time should you want to.

Each of these require some sort of in-game property (or submarine) purchase before you can start the heists yourself, but you can join other people setting them up without purchasing.

The original heists need a High End Apartment. ($200,000+)
The Doomsday Heist needs a Facility. ($1,250,000+)
The Casino Heist needs an Arcade. ($1,235,000+)
Cayo Perico needs a Kosatka submarine. ($2,200,000+)

The original heists will need 4 people for the majority of them (the first only needs 2). The Doomsday Heist & Casino Heist can be done with 2-4 people. Cayo Perico can be done 1-4.

At this point I would get a High End Apartment then aim for the Kosatka. As I've said before, currently the Cayo Perico heist is the best way to earn cash. If you can find someone who'll take you on that heist a few times you'll easily get enough cash to get your own sub and then you can get that Facility & Arcade once the money comes rolling in.

Hey thanks so much for the info. It's a guide I'll stick to if I can work out what the hell all the symbols on the map mean.

I've got to be honest and say that I'm seriously reconsidering the whole "Online" part of the game anyway.

Context: this is my first online videogame ever.

The restrictions in place for the low experience levels are so humiliating. I wear crappy clothes. I have a crappy car. My weapons are complete turd. I don't understand what I'm doing and everyone else just treats me like a fly they can swat if I look at them weird. They all have cars that are impervious to bullets. They all have superweapons that could evaporate me in a nanosecond. And so on and so on.

And it seems like I'm just going to be this little pawn for soooo long. I have never understood what "grinding" meant until I was faced with this prospect of having to actually earn money inside a game just to be able to play the game like it normally plays.

That won't last long. There's decent free cars on some of the websites. The Duke Of Death is handy as it's armoured. Even if you spend a bit of time just taking part in races, events and missions, your money and rank will soon rise.

Famous Mortimer

Retinend, if you're on PC then I'll happily help you out with some stuff - the dispatch missions are quite good fun and can be done pretty quickly to earn a nice chunk of change / XP. I'm FamousMortimerr (two Rs), and I'm in the CaB crew.

I'd recommend doing all the "single player" stuff in online, which is a nice stream of cash and XP too - the action figures, the bounty hunting, the signal jammers and the movie props.

I'll search you out, thanks. If you add friends who are online do you automatically join their session when you go online yourself?

I think it favours joining sessions with your friends, but I'm not sure. I tended to end up in sessions with Rich Uncle Skeleton without doing anything to cause it.

Tried the Pursuit Series races this morning. What a load of shite. Each checkpoint is really far away from the other so you have to make your own route which reminded me too much of Burnout Paradise which I thought was rubbish due to not having set tracks.

The one benefit I've found is that all the tryhards have decamped to playing that, so the normal stunt races are occasionally pleasant again. But yes, I just don't like any of the tuner content, after giving it a good go.

I enjoyed Burnout Paradise, but I prefer the skill of learning a track (something like Project Gotham Racing 4, which I absolutely loved).

Yeah it's been a bit better.  I found several races a nightmare recently as at least 3 or 4 in every race were blocking the track. I luckily became the host after a few races so booted them. Right pain in the arse though.

The car meet place is a disaster as well. Really hard to find where everything is. You an look at the map for a general idea of what's where but it's still shit. The 250k for reaching level 20 could be handy though. I've just been nodding my cars there. Seem to get 5k every time you level up too.

I like that the game keeps telling me all the cool things Retinend has been up to.

Got 2.4m going spare and am half set up on the next Perico heist.

What's worth buying? I have a MC clubhouse, coke business (that seems to lose money), hangar, apartment, buzzard.

No decent cars, no bunker, no terrabyte... Was tempted by an insurgent, but seems a waste of dosh. Also a CEO office and vehicle warehouse. No idea really. Not used to this opulence.

Did you find me? If I was just standing there it's because I logged on and completely forgot.

How do you communicate, anyway? I see a live chat on screen but presumably not every communication is "public".

Pardon me but you almost sound angry at that!!

Famous Mortimer

I did rather, apologies. Watching the swathe of PvP destruction you caused was a lot of fun, though.

Retinend, press T to bring up the chat box, then enter whatever. There's another button for "team", which I occasionally press accidentally but have never bothered to find out what it is.

The new auto-shop accesses some higher paying missions. Nothing Perico scale but typically 10x old style contact mission payout. More importantly it gives you free classic paint for cars and a price reduction on all other car mods done in the garage.

You will have to put up with a DJ doing some bad acting, but at least like Pavel he actually seems to like you unlike Lester at al.

In terms of cars, I generally watch the weekly update videos that Broughy1322 does on YouTube on Thursdays. He does thorough race testing of each car and those videos are a good guide for what discounted car each week is worth buying.

Rizla

This might be my favourite update so far - less shooting, more driving based. I really like the street race courses, lots of fun. I've got the new Dinka Jester so far - I've enough sat in the bank to treat myself to a couple more when they're discounted. Yet to actually come first in a street race, my driving's pretty ropey, even after all these years. I probably overthink it too much and try to be much too tricky with the handbrake turns and the drifting and whatnot - much like in the old DS Mariokart tournament days, all the Dick Dastardly bollocks in the world can't beat a good racing line. I do love driving up behind other players honking the horn like a madman, find it incredibly funny for some reason and it seems to really put some folk off their cornering (is anyone else a fan of the General Lee dixie horn? I put it on every car I buy, it always tickles). Just wish I had some accomplices to go heisting with, I'm Billy no-mates here in PS4 land.

Retinend

Yesterday I realized that the online game is kind of lonely. You can kill other people, but aside from the strictly-scripted missions, there doesn't seem to be a way of working alongside others spontaneously. That's disappointing. Surely GTA is all about mayhem? Surely the fun of being online is that spectators are watching you do impressive/fucked up stuff in real time?

So I decided that I would experiment and cause such a gruesome and prolonged scene of indiscriminate killing of peds and policeman, respawn after respawn - and so relentlessly - that my fellow online crims would see the fun and want to join in and cover my back. This way, I envisaged, eventually the entire online session would become a deathmatch between players and the AI cops.

So I began emptying my weapons of ammo - first into innocent cars, and eventually into the police who arrived. I died in a face-off against the cops again and again, before immediately respawning and starting again - but always hoping that I would be rescued by my fellow humans. I did this, gradually exhausting my ammo supplies for various weapons. Over and over again. But no one ever stumbled across the area I was doing all this in, not once. It was at a major junction in the city.

After I had been doing this for half an hour or so, no one had come. So I checked the map and - weirdly - I didn't see any other players at all. It was like I was in story mode, but with my online character.

Do you experienced players think that the GTAO servers isolate you if you are causing too much mayhem and picking up too high of a wanted level? As some sort of failsafe against overload?
