Yesterday I realized that the online game is kind of lonely. You can kill other people, but aside from the strictly-scripted missions, there doesn't seem to be a way of working alongside others spontaneously. That's disappointing. Surely GTA is all about mayhem? Surely the fun of being online is that spectators are watching you do impressive/fucked up stuff in real time?

So I decided that I would experiment and cause such a gruesome and prolonged scene of indiscriminate killing of peds and policeman, respawn after respawn - and so relentlessly - that my fellow online crims would see the fun and want to join in and cover my back. This way, I envisaged, eventually the entire online session would become a deathmatch between players and the AI cops.

So I began emptying my weapons of ammo - first into innocent cars, and eventually into the police who arrived. I died in a face-off against the cops again and again, before immediately respawning and starting again - but always hoping that I would be rescued by my fellow humans. I did this, gradually exhausting my ammo supplies for various weapons. Over and over again. But no one ever stumbled across the area I was doing all this in, not once. It was at a major junction in the city.

After I had been doing this for half an hour or so, no one had come. So I checked the map and - weirdly - I didn't see any other players at all. It was like I was in story mode, but with my online character.

Do you experienced players think that the GTAO servers isolate you if you are causing too much mayhem and picking up too high of a wanted level? As some sort of failsafe against overload?

It's always had netsplit problems that can be caused by things as simple as using the quit button in the choose a race menu instead of voting for free mode.

Coincidence, I think, having spent hours with friends killing cops and other NPCs and generally causing mayhem. There's such a thing as a 'bad sport' lobby, but that's for routinely griefing other players in various ways, and you get a special hat. You can do what you want to NPCs.

Gotten quite jaded with the game recently, but that hasn't prompted me to give the fucking thing a break for a while; oh no.
I'll do the usual shit I do, contact missions, races etc etc, but it's interspersed with long periods where I sit inside an impenetrable wall glitch and watch the chat stream of multiple different personality disorders arguing with each other in broken English. Occasionally blowing some Broomstick Bandit that decides to try to find off his cuntbike with me trusty old ray gun. Not even the existence and my owneeship of Crusader Kings 3 seem to be able to break me from this odd behaviour.

*edited first sentence for coherence.

bgmnts

Thinking about giving this all a go again. Hopefully it still is quite active.

Malcy

Made a nice $2m+ in a couple of hours today doing the Auto Shop contracts which are double rewards at the moment. The Union Depository one gave a nice $600k and only took about half an hour.

Tried the Tiny Racers thing as its triple $ & RP. What a load of shite. It's just the Micro Machines game. But shit.

Anyone here any good at Deadline? Feels fucking impossible

Got 2.4m going spare and am half set up on the next Perico heist.

What's worth buying? I have a MC clubhouse, coke business (that seems to lose money), hangar, apartment, buzzard.

No decent cars, no bunker, no terrabyte... Was tempted by an insurgent, but seems a waste of dosh. Also a CEO office and vehicle warehouse. No idea really. Not used to this opulence.

Get yourself a Toreador, best car in the game, I think. And one of the very few vehicles that can take down an Oppressor.

Yeah, I win pretty often unless there's a serious beast in there. My trick is to focus on preserving my own life, be aware of my own trail, and not be scared to ease off the gas to avoid a collision. Once you can stay alive, you start to see moments when you can set traps for others. One of my fave ones is the skyscraper level where I leave it as close as possible to the edge and the buildings, creating little S shapes around the place. I avoid head to head races at almost all costs

Famous Mortimer

So I've had it about 9 months? I noticed that my level was way above the streamers I watch who've had it for years, which indicates I've probably played it quite a lot in the time.

I hope, when they do the next gen version, they tweak the activities a little. Well, mainly just the races, which is the thing I'm most bothered about. Make them worth more, patch out the boring-ass exploits, change the placement of the checkpoints on bike races so it's not just those gliding people who win every time...given how many fun player-created tracks are out there, and how impossible it is to find anyone to race them with (unless you're in a racing-specific crew, I guess), it'd be nice if they used all the resources they've been given by their own fans.

Malcy

A lot going on this week.

I noticed there had been really mad lightning past couple of days. Seems UFO's will be around, slashers on the streets in Freemode and a few good discounts as well.

Famous Mortimer

Ooh, lovely, I'll pop it on tonight.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

QDRPHNC

I've run into a couple of the UFOs, flew towards one on top of Mt. Chilead. Love the big lightning crack the whole map gets when they disappear.

Also, the remastered trilogy is up for preorder now, coming out November 11. $60US for all 3. I'm holding off until the reviews come in.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Can I tag along with someone on Cayo perico at some point please? Running tedious nothing errands for a nightclub is losing its charm

QDRPHNC

If you're on xbox then yep

This weeks stuff. Bought the Casino Penthouse last week with the discount so will probably get an Arcade this week. I didn't run in to any of the Slashers around. Saw a few UFO's but that's about it.

QDRPHNC

I ran into a slasher but didn't know what I was supposed to do. Do they just stand around acting creepy?

They appear as a red dot and then relentlessly hunt you down from what I've seen in videos. Never ran into the phantom car based on 'Christine' either.

QDRPHNC

This one just walked after me slowly with creepy music playing, and when I got in my car he just stood still. Couldn't kill him, but kind of anticlimactic.

Malcy

Encountered the car last night. Jumped on top of mine and gave it a quick blast with that laser weapon and it buggered off. Also saw the slasher on fire. Was in the car you get after the Casino missions so just reversed slowly while blasting it with the car's weapons.

QDRPHNC

Loving the green-tinted Halloween storms today but I'm feeling a bit "fine for UFOs here thanks" about the UFO's. Flying low in a helicopter is a nightmare what the with engine dying every time you get too close.

I enjoyed it for about all of 5 minutes. The constant wet roads were a nightmare. It's all more annoying than anything else and doesn't seem to serve any purpose other than that.

Was doing the Casino Heist prep and rage quit. Something I rarely do but what a load of shite. If I had more than one controller I would have happily smashed it off a wall. Also slid in the wet road and got stuck next to my counterfeit cash factory and got killed and lost a full stock I had won at the casino, staff etc.

QDRPHNC

I can see that, but for me half the fun of GTA is experiencing the atmosphere. Prowling around off the radar in my Akula with lighting and rain and mist... lovely.

The lighting effects were giving off some lovely colours and reflections, I'll give it that. The thunder booming through my speakers was starting to freak out the cat though!

Rich Uncle Skeleton

I'm fine with rain and wind and a bit of a filter but this ones so bloody dark that after a while it feels like my eyes are straining to focus on other players. And the UFOs still being present during missions and killing off your helicopter/mk2 is a nightmare!

Just done Cayo Perico from start to finish with someone I've played with a few times before. He sets the cut 50/50 before we begin the main heist and goes for a piss, since he didn't press READY before the clock ran itself down i found out at the end I'd spent two and a half hours of my evening arsing about to make this guy 1.4 million with a cooool 370k for myself,  fucking brill.

QDRPHNC

May we well just run it solo tbh. Once you get the flow down, it's a piece of piss.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Oh I would absolutely do it solo but don't have the sub yet,  hence having to ride the coat tails of my social betters! The heist seems to be a licence to print money so once I've done it a few times and get properly paid I'll just do it alone when I like.

QDRPHNC

It really is. Get the sub when you can and with the first heist you run, get the sparrow. You'll be making 1.5 mill every 2-3 hours before you know it.

Famous Mortimer

Can you borrow someone else's? I don't mind leaving my game running for an hour or so while you do it with my sub, if I don't have to do it myself (I've got into a Forza Horizon 4 mindset now, and feel like I've really played GTAO to death for the moment).
