Captain Crunch

I've been enjoying this lately.

https://studsterkel.wfmt.com/

Quick overview from wikipedia:

Louis "Studs" Terkel (May 1912 – October 2008) was an American author, historian, actor, and broadcaster. He received the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction in 1985 for The Good War and is best remembered for his oral histories of common Americans, and for hosting a long-running radio show in Chicago.

The archive has interviews from all over the world and over 1,000 clips.

Some recent highlights for me:

1962 - Talking to punters in a Midlands pub.  They all moan about kids today wanting loads of tech for Christmas when all they got was a sugar 'thing'.

1969 – Dreams, computers the future.

1974 – Occupational diseases and misreporting of health news.

Loads of interesting stuff on here.  I also like the website, it's easy to browse and search and there's a running transcript for each interview.

Enjoy.

Great thread! I love Studs Terkel.

Not sure if it's also up on the archive there, but there's a fascinating interview with him and a pre-fame (or at least pre-superfame) Bob Dylan up on YouTube. Dylan still in his phase of doing a Woody Guthrie impression and an affected accent, which is amusing.
