IMPORTANT: Don't embed non-work safe images on CaB please

The rule on CaB has always been that images that are not safe for work should not be embedded, for fear that people can lose their job over some knob shot.  This is why spoiler tags are now only capable of hiding text - the old ones used to be able to hide images; people think that's safe, but they get pre-loaded.

After many occurrences of having to tell the exact same people off for repeatedly breaking this rule, a two-day mandatory ban was implemented.  This has been effective in that people learn not to make such a serious and fundamental error again, and I get to spend less time telling people off.  I don't like having to issue temp bans, but as I say, regrettably it's the only thing that seems to work.

If people want a change in this policy, feel free to discuss it.  I see no real reason to embed tits and balls and fanny that - the one exception being the Wimblewrong forum which is marked as not work safe.

I will say however, that I haven't been as clear as I should have been about this policy, and I apologise for that.  It's hard trying to keep up with absolutely everything on here.  You may have noticed the changes to the forum front page - stipulations there regarding rules have also gone unnoticed, even after I changed some of them to bold text.

So I will try to catch up and make this kind of thing clearer still; I suppose I tend to think that people just get the tone of the place, but long-term members breaking this rule over the past few weeks would indicate that this is not the case.

I'll sticky this after it drops.

Thanks.

Heh - I knew asking the question would serve to emphasise the fact that it's okay.  PR expert, me.

Is it okay if we want to get a quick diagnosis of genital warts, purely for health reasons?

Cerys

I thought it was generally accepted that we all have them.

Might as well put this out there - someone's avatar on here triggered a false positive for pornography at my work and I did in fact get into massively anxiety-inducing trouble while they investigated it. It turned out fine. I don't know which avatar it was.

Well there you go. Thanks for that; I had wondered if I was being over-cautious by sticking to this "no NWS images" policy after all these years, but I don't want stuff like that on my conscience if I can help it. People should be able to read the forum at work without risk of losing their job.

How the fuck does that work? Does your work have bots on its network that check images for tits?

Maybe someone's avatar hotlinked an image that was hosted on a domain more commonly associated with Richard Pictures

Edit: It's worth mentioning that avatars can be turned off in the 'Look and Layout' settings in your profile, for anyone who wishes to be cautious about this.

Fishfinger

At a place of work a colleague had the job of checking shared media for stuff that might contravene regulations. But he couldn't handle gore. So amidst the porn he'd call me over to check whether the video of a guy chiseling a finger off was real or not. "Uhh, hard to tell." I think I could've said anything. I was doing database things and it was a nice break.

In a similar vein, for a while someone at work had a CaB member's ideal job: testing for swearwords and drug references etc. Not just common ones but anything they could come up with that might be known to "the kids" but not necessarily the middle management of an IT dept.

Noted Barry, although given the content of the site I would never access the site on a work pc or network anyway. Actually, it's not so much the dubious content, more the lasting social shame of being associated with other CaB users.

I used to work for a very well-known video gaming company and every now and then I'd query one of the databases for the list of banned words that they used to auto-moderate their forums.

Hours of fun.

Sex beast?

Almost, I think one of them is what the young people call a cunt nowadays.  Funny word but young people are mad.

When you say "please do not post tech queries outside of that thread", what if the tech query is specific to a particular thread, eg kindle enquiries in books or itunes/ MP3 players in Oscillations?
