It's Italian, you philistines.  I bet you put cream in it as well.  Gah.

Sorry for any breaches I may have done in the past, though I'm sure I've not posted anything as NSFW as my pedolols.

Can I check if "embedding" means just "using IMG tags to have the image render on the page", or if it also includes "linking to the NSFW image with a warning so people can click it if they really want"? In other words, the difference between:

[img]NSFW picture.jpeg[/img]

and

Hey guys, click to view this NSFW image lol [url]NSFW picture.jpeg[/url]

I assume it might be both if spoiler tags to prevent the images from actually displaying on screens don't work cos of the pre-loading thing? Or maybe not if work IT systems tend to differentiate between HTML <a> and <img> tags looking at the same URL.

WHAT A BORING QUESTION

Barry Admin

Yeah embedding just means the picture is between IMG tags so will be loaded whenever someone clicks on the thread. Linking to such an image is fine, but should be clearly marked as NWS so that people know what they're clicking on.

Specific to a particular subforum I guess you mean. Yeah that's fine, that's really the way it used to be before I idiotically decided to call a gaming forum "Technology", thereby giving a false impression about the actual desired content.

The main thing has always been to limit the "broken computer" posts to that sticky thread, because - I'm sorry - but I find discussions about broken computers to be very, very dull, and the sticky thread has always been a great resource for people who need assistance there.

That's absolutely fair enough Barry, but a few times I've thought about discussing 3d modelling and audio production and stuff. I assume the audio production stuff would go in Oscillations? But I wouldn't want to post the 3D modelling stuff in general bullshit or welll... anywhere else?

How would you suggest we approach this?

I asked for youtube tutorials on a vector graphics program in Picture Box but probably wouldn't have if I wasn't asking for Youtube vids (which I recall Baz saying he wanted to widen PB to).

What's the 3D modelling in relation to? If it were game graphics and it were me then I'd put it in Live Die Live, if it were modelling for animation then probably Deeper Into Movies. If neither then it probably slips through the cracks of our categories, and the nearest equivalent I can think is the Photography thread, which prior to being moved to H.S. Art was found in Picture Box and maybe even Technology (as was).

I think the chances of getting serious responses in there for a new thread on 3D modelling would be slim to none - the photography thread had the benefit of being a long running one before it was moved so the people who already read or posted in there could seek it out, though I think new members would be likely to never see it, especially as the line on "no whimsy outside H.S. Art" has been enforced quite strictly for a while now[nb]Which isn't a criticism - I enjoy the whimsy, but am also fully on board with the site being run as Barry likes.[/nb], to the point where it has essentially become "nothing but whimsy in H.S. Art", so if you put a thread in there I expect at least 50% of the posts would be hentai[nb]Linked, but not embedded. Please. God, please.[/nb].

I think there are technical issues with setting up new subforums so that's just one of many reasons I wouldn't suggest that as the way forward for Barry, but even without knowing where it would fit I'd be interested in seeing threads about 3D modelling appear on here - some of the threads I enjoy most are those where CaBbers talk about their interests, off topic or not, and there are countless threads on books, films and music and other things which I read far more heavily than I post in.

All of which is a long way of marshalling my thoughts while I type, and my tuppence would be to post in General Bullshit and be damned. There's definite precedent for it - it's not a million miles away from the ongoing homebrew thread - and Barry can move it elsewhere or lock it if it's not suitable, which I suspect would probably only be if it were an attempt at shameless self promotion.

And just another bit to say that this bit...:

...really jumped out at me. It's a shame if people are sitting on potentially interesting threads on topics that fire them up.

just borrow someone's arse and make a subforum in that. not hard.

Cerys

Or just slap it in GB and if anyone other than Neil complains send them a crap in a box.

The only real issue with more forums is it's more for me to moderate, but if people help me with the report button, that definitely makes things easier for me. Keeping spammers at bay is pretty time-consuming these days, but I'm really pleased that stuff like that is hardly ever found on here and gets removed fast if it does slip through.

I guess I could give an actual Technology forum a go. There must be some demand for it as I had to move or lock a fair few threads of late.

Is that the social-distancing version of pissing through their letterbox?

Cerys

It predates letterbox pissing, but I see no reason why not.

Cerys

Neil, I love you.  And it isn't the sleep deprivation saying that.

weekender

Bloody fascist, can't believe I can't watch porn at work anymore.

Wait, was the problem that I was watching porn at work and not being productive?

What do you mean I'm furloughed?

Sebastian Cobb

There seems to be slightly inconsistent behaviour surrounding technology when entering from the index page, clicking 'new' will show 2 threads (turntable advice missing) but if I go in through by clicking technology it'll show 3 threads. Or is it just filtering behaviour I've not seen 'cos of the way the other subforums are displayed? It's happened to me twice now, the first time I thought I'd got a local page or something.

Barry Admin

Yeah I actually wondered the same thing, I don't remember that filtering happening with any other board.

touchingcloth was right btw, there's a database error that is stopping the creation of new sub-forums so I had to repurpose another old unused one. Need to get access to the database again.

I'll run the error checking thing here and see if that fixes the "new" issue. Only fitting the board should have a technical error, I guess :-)

Cerys

I just assumed it was filtering out the threads with no new posts.  Shows what I know.

Edit - dammit, I'm just screwing up left, right, and centre.
