Just watched the first few mins of this out of grim fascination.. the amount of cognitive dissonance they have to go through to even have these conversations.. beard bloke (ironic!) going on about how his main issue here is how sad he is that "real" trans people are being harmed by these perverts pretending to be trans when he literally says in the comments below that he doesn't believe ANYONE is really trans but if they're nice and polite then he doesn't mind pretending he does. Christ!

"Peak Trans" what does that mean? Google doesn't seem to come up with anything.

It's like a sort of shark-jumping moment for terfs with regards trans people. It's the one specific occurrence someone experiences which makes them think that trans aren't just an oppressed minority engaged in a civil rights struggle. Rather, reaching peak trans means you've finally realised, in fact, that trans activists are engaged in an all-out war against the rest of society, whereby they intend to take over and colonise the world, starting first by seizing the public toilets, then following up by forcing children and teenagers to take puberty blockers and have double mastectomies.

Movements like the Glinner-backed LGB Alliance distance themselves from trans people now, and want to see LGBQ publicly divorced from T, because they fear that there is a shadowy plot to convince young gay people that they're actually "born in the wrong body", and force them to undergo gender reconstruction surgery.

Linehan has helped extend this notion, arguing that, for instance, any girl who likes wearing trousers will be frog-marched to the Tavistock and brainwashed into thinking that she's actually a trans boy. He has also used his public platform to widely perpetuate the notion that powerful trans nonces are behind most of this stuff, and that they want to force feed puberty blockers to kids so that they can remain physically attractive to paedos as their biological age increases.

So to summarise: "peak trans" is the one single, defining moment someone can point to where they became an outrageously stupid, bigoted cunt.

Christ, imagine what she put up with before she left. Imagine every. single. conversation. being about trans people. Like my boy with Geometry Dash.

Or my relative with vitamin B12. Still at least I didn't have to live with this person.

Also, gay people can get married now, so fuck trans people, frankly. Best pull the ladder up behind them and join in with the bullying lest they start to lose ground. Don't want to be seen hanging about with anyone who is unpopular.

It means delicious long-life pies which you cook in the tin can they come in. They're made with mechanically recovered meat and may include penises.

Delighted his wife has left him, he's a cunt, stop being soft

Pancake

Funny that carbonara means charcoal which is what his career and marriage is now, and maybe that's the point

Not sure if this is meant to be a comment on Glinner or on these threads, but it seems apt either way.

indeed.

Maybe there's something in the Carbonara that makes you a cunt. Makes you think.

Cerys

It's spunk, isn't it?  Someone else put spunk in his carbonara.  No wonder he's a bit miffed.

Pancake

Usually just use an egg yolk but spunk would have a similar effect, plus I can make my own

Given that he has been seen to buy all the ingredients, the obvious implication is that he did it himself. No wonder he's so angry at penises.

Indeed.  I think that instead of hurling abuse at the poor man, we should pity him.  Betrayed by his own spunk-gouting, carbonara-tainting knoblet.  I weep.  I weep actual tears.

Been thinking about it a lot since I saw it the other day. It is relevant, actually, since the theme of "cringe" certainly is. Almost every discussion on the internet about the internet is related to one or another kind of cringe (either the so-called "sympathetic-" or the "contemptuous" cringe).

Earlier, I was about to start reading this saga from the beginning - all 400 pages or whatever... but I figured - "fuck it, Contrapoints is right" and shut down the tabs.

Does anyone else hear people with this level of mania on any given subject and just quietly set their watch? I mean, perhaps it's simplistic to say Glinner harbours a desire to transition, but in my mind that has to be where all this is going. You don't dedicate your entire life in opposition to something you could (so easily!) ignore unless it stirs something deep down.

No.

I take Glinner at his word - he was criticised for his hilarious story involving a great big man of a trans woman, and because we have the internet now he ended up disappearing down a TERF rabbithole. Him getting in legal trouble for acting the bollocks online just cemented the idea of a shadowy cabal of perverts trying to bury the truth.

I think his wife probably has a few terfy opinions, but can imagine the sheer amount of time he devoted to his obsession would drive anyone insane.

My partner and I are aligned just about exactly in our politics - but if one of us were to spend all day every day tweeting about the media's treatment of Corbyn, for example, the obsession would turn life into an absolute slog - even if we do happen to agree on the issue. It's annoying enough if one of us gets sucked into scrolling through a comments section for five minutes.

It's an unbelievable degree of fixation, especially as it only seems to take him in circles of disagreeing and agreeing with the usual characters (though even that seems to be breaking down now). Terribly unproductive use of time even within the obsession he's chosen.

I don't think we need to psychologically probe from a distance for any secret transitional desires. The origins of his obsession have been summarised quite well, trailing back to that episode of The IT Crowd. As Barry and others have witnessed and documented, he already had the reputation of a serial 'Twitter policeman'. It seems that a confluence of criticism, social media, and personal idiosyncrasies have driven our Graham into this particular ravine - but if that ep of The IT Crowd had been about something else, who knows?

You can't really picture Linehan killing it on the comedy panel shows these days. "Clapping hands for the NHS? More like banning trans for the post-surgery regrets! Am I right or am I right?"

thr0b

Also, regarding that episode of the IT Crowd. It wasn't entirely unfunny. The joke was 90% on Matt Berry's character and the farce element of him apparently being accepting of his girlfriend's transition while not actually knowing about it.

He could've taken the criticism on the chin, learned a bit from it and moved on. As it stands, people only remember two episodes of the IT Crowd - the musical and the trans episode, and the latter not for good reasons at all.

People used to say the same thing about homophobes, and it turns out to be true in a handful of cases, but quite often they're just hateful. It might sound like mean-spirited and small-minded speculation, but I once used the advanced Twitter search to see what he was talking about when he revealed he lost a testicle to cancer, and people he now hates because they disagree with him on the trans subject were offering their condolences. He might have expressed some negative views on trans people before then but it does seem like his monomania began around this time.

Anyway I know it's not my place to speculate on someone else's pathology based solely on their Twitter feed. This is just 'for fun'. A bit of harmless speculation.
