Well, it's come to this...

QuoteA campaign is being launched to combat the rise in identity politics, backed by a poll suggesting that even young people are tired of the culture wars.

Voters want an end to ideological drives and disruptive protests on "politically correct" subjects and would prefer politicians to focus on what brings people together in the wake of the coronavirus and Brexit.

The Campaign for Common Sense (CCS), which is to be launched this week, will champion free speech and oppose the intolerance of hardline activism that seeks to shut down legitimate debate.

It aims to be "a rallying point for people who have had enough of walking on eggshells".

Mark Lehain, its director, was one of the first free-school headteachers, at Bedford Free School, which opened

And like all good grass roots campaigns, it starts with a registration at Companies House:

QuoteThe Campaign for Common Sense (CCS) exists to bring together those who want to have a grown up discussion and debate.

We will conduct research, and organise events online and across the country, involving experts in all fields and bring them to the widest possible audience. We will be champions for free speech and tolerance.
We will be asking...

  • What does diversity actually mean and does it really matter?
  • Should statues of historical figures be removed because of modern values?
  • Is there anything that we shouldn't joke about?
  • Should the police be prioritising language on social media over fighting street crime?
  • Are schools there to teach kids what to think, or to help them think for themselves?
  • Is Britain bigger than Brexit?
  • Should people be able to speak their mind at work?
  • Does positive discrimination work?
  • What views and arguments should be banned from debates?
  • Can children consent to changing their gender?

Don't all rush now!

Two people listed on the Team page I see.

From the section of their MD, Mark Lehain.

QuoteMost recently he was a candidate in Newcastle for the General Election where, fuelled by Greggs sausage rolls, he halved the incumbent's majority. Alongside campaigning and meeting people, he drinks copious quantities of coffee, runs, and pretends to know how to manage his four young daughters.

He stood for the Conservative Party, which is as far from common sense as you can get.

"We're sick of hearing about identity politics, and that's why we intend not to shut up about it."

evilcommiedictator

"All we want is endless debate on identity politics, climate change, vaccines, the right of brown people to exist, gravity and everything else we don't like"

Fambo Number Mive

This campaign will probably have the effect of distracting a lot of people from the complete arse the government have made of things.

"Never mind 35,000 dead, look at what this schoolteacher said in Hemel Hempsted about Brexit!"

I wonder how many press releases they will pump out for the tabloids.

Per the commercial landlord for their address, their offices will cost minimum ~£595,000 per year assuming they went with the smallest 10,000 sq ft space available. They may have pushed the boat out and gone for the 23,000 sq ft for ~£1,300,000 though.

I, too, am tired of the culture wars that these 'common sense' cunts are continually starting with their columns in major newspapers and their radio shows and their wealth and friends in the media.

Cunt OFF.

HAHAHA DEFINE "COMMON SENSE" FIRST OF ALL YOU FUCKERS

you know what this sounds like to me?

"wah wah I want to be able to bully trannies online and talk very loudly about immigrants stealing our jobs without that Muslim bitch at the next desk getting all uppity"

Chairman Yang

Really? 'cause it sounds like imported American fascism to me.

Quote from: WikipediaCampaigning for a free school in Bedford and Kempston began in July 2010. On 6 September 2010, Michael Gove (Secretary of State for Education) announced Bedford Free School as one of the first 16 free schools to be set up under the UK coalition government. The business case for Bedford Free School was signed off by the Department for Education in May 2011.

Founding Principal Mark Lehain was previously head of mathematics and assistant head at Wootton Upper School. He was involved in the campaign for the free school but still had to compete with others for the post. The school's initial governing body included a magistrate, a stockbroker and a chartered accountant.

The school colours are purple and yellow.

Did he, the loopy old bastard.

I've stopped checking in on him after he celebrated someone agreeing to extend an anti-PC one-day-only hashtag to a second day on the basis that he asked and it was his birthday. Now that his family has left, it's all a bit too grim. 180 days in a travel tavern beckons.

It's a self-limiting problem because all the huffy red-faced men who will be involved with this will have their strokes soon.

Doesn't 'le hain' translate as 'hate'?

popcorn

I fucking hate the idea of common sense. It isn't a fucking argument.

It's an argument from authority. "I don't want to be bothered by it and I'm pulling rank"

Dr Trouser

If common sense is defined as being able to use the toothpaste tube properly and not squeeze it from the fucking middle, while leaving the top off - then I fully support this campaign.

La haine. Hate is feminine in France.

Close enough though.

Can I have a crack at these?  And perhaps by answering them with a 'common sense' answer, this can be put to bed.

What does diversity actually mean and does it really matter?

Dictionaries are good for meaning.  And it matters in some contexts.  Questioner needs to define parameters.

Should statues of historical figures be removed because of modern values?

Post-war Germany removed all Third Reich statues due to 'modern values'.  Again, 'modern values' is opaque.  I thought these twats hated fuzzy language?

Is there anything that we shouldn't joke about?

No, depends on the joke, the teller, the context.

Should the police be prioritising language on social media over fighting street crime?

Last I checked 'street crime' (again, vague) is treated as a crime by the police.  As is threatening people over the internet.

Are schools there to teach kids what to think, or to help them think for themselves?

Both, surely?  They're taught to think 1 x 1 = 1.  They can't get away with 'thinking for themselves' and coming out with an answer of 2.  They're not Terence Howard.

Is Britain bigger than Brexit?

In what way?  The island, the state, the concept?

Should people be able to speak their mind at work?

People can 'speak their mind', as a rule.  As long is it is reasonable & work related.  What is it the questioner is unable to say that their colleagues simply must know?

Does positive discrimination work?

It works better than negative discrimination

What views and arguments should be banned from debates?

Depends on the debate, doesn't it?  I thought these fuckers want 'common sense'?

Can children consent to changing their gender?

Why would a parent force a child to change gender?  Surely the child only gives consent if they're asked to do so in the first place?

Let's be honest, 'common sense' is the standard term for their prejudices and half-cocked right-wing bullshittery.  The same tiresome twats who complain about 'political correctness' stopping them from saying anything, when the obvious question is 'what is it that you want to say that you feel you can't right now?'.

I think I can help answer one of these. I'd say it looks like Brexit is definitely bigger.

I see ML is a regular contributor to ConservativeHome, including an article having a go at teaching unions concerned about schools reopening too fast:

Quote...When Coronavirus kicked off, the NEU leadership were still licking their wounds after throwing everything they had to get Jeremy Corbyn elected. Some at the top see their role more about fomenting socialist revolution than representing members. COVID-19 presents a new opportunity to whip up conflict and bring down the Conservative Government, and they are making the most of it. With their own five tests, checklists designed to be failed, and other actions, the union is doing everything it can to equip activists to slow down Heads and prevent proper preparation from being undertaken...

QuoteOur Mission
To challenge the pervasive left-wing bias in online content, much of which originates from the UK's mainstream media and activist groups.

What happens if I think for myself and agree with left wing opinions, Darren? Laughable that he thinks online media is dominated by left leaning outlets, ignoring the Mail, Express, Telegraph, Times etc.
