Why does anyone bother with Twitter seems like it is just used to argue endlessly on the internet. People would feel alot better if they stayed away from it, engaged in real life. Not getting drawn into petty arguments all over the web. Who actually has time for that?

idunnosomename

to be fair at the moment a lot of us have time for a lot more shit. but not winning arguments on the internet.

(i will not be continuing this line of argument after this post for I cannot be arsed)

Thank God someone on this forum finally said it!

Tbh I'm not sure who's doing what to who and who the good and the bad guys are any more. Maybe that's the whole point?

I'm in front of a computer screen doing something relatively mundane for six to eight hours a day. Not to complain about it - I'm my own boss, get a decent wage, work my own hours. But petty arguments all over the web kinda break the day up a little.

Even when I was an employee, I used to think 'If you don't take breaks, they'll take themselves.' You can't just focus on work for a solid eight hours.

never stops being funny. best non-sequitur ever. it's also 'bravado'. in quotes. it's such a blunt end.

and she ctrl Vs, then types the hashtag? wtf
I'd guess she uses sublime text and is highly depended on the suggestions, but when you've something recent on your clipboard it takes a slot on the suggestions bar, so she possibly accidentally hit it and never noticed.

This shit's going to be all over the next Cormoran Strike novel isn't it?

Why would she - or anyone - use a separate editor for a tweet? It's only 160 characters, seems like to much faff to copy stuff from twitter, paste into the editor and then copy back, if that's what you're suggesting (and I haven't misunderstood and Sublime has a twitter integration of some kind).

Next but one maybe - I think the next one is done already.

Why'd I read the replies on that thread. Why. I love how being trans is "just a mental illness" now. That you can lavender oil and meditate your way out of. Imagine the howls of outrage if it was suggested that gay people get therapy to help with their deviancy. If it was suggested that seeking out relationships with people of the same gender was "the new antidepressant", a maladjusted coping mechanism which is ultimately futile.

Buelligan

Still, I despise JKR (for her work).  I hate that she feels entitled, by virtue of producing bales of beta dross and bales of dollars, to tell other people shit like this but I don't give a fuck what she thinks, I just prefer it when she doesn't try to fill my head with it.

At least Michael Winner wasn't a total cunt.

Yeah.  I quite like annoying Peter Hitchens every now and again, and anyone who replies (including a few times the tit himself).  I am also blocked by George Monbiot for trying to annoy him, which is nice.

You could potentially use it as a sort of newsfeed, but you'd need to pick very carefully.  I mean something like following 20 good independent journalists covering a war

JaDanketies

all this terfness has really damaged my Twitter feed. Iirc the first time a bunch of terfs piled on me was back in December 19 and trans rights have taken up a lot of my Twitter time since that point. There was a point when I unfollowed a bunch of trans-rights people, but "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in." I guess before then I was largely talking about why Corbyn isn't a nazi, and that debate is dead now.

Hope y'all don't mind me posting here instead. A lot more relaxing than Twitter. I don't expect to come back to CaB and see 20 people calling me a cunt, or two of them trying to dox me. Also it's a nice way to wean off the terf e-argument; gradually expose myself to more subjects again.

There was a bit of discussion in the book forum about the last one which sounds like it was written by Richard Littlejohn:

There we go. Only 100 pages in, and Dr Strike is on the trail of a couple of hard-left activists who, on top of being smelly, unkempt, drug-addled conspiracy loons, are very mean to Tories on Twitter, and whose distaste for the military is presented as the kind of stereotype of a sheltered, clueless leftie student that you'd expect from the Daily Mail. Critical military action abroad? Why, they must be sixth-form commies who think all soldiers eat babies! Already an eye-roll mention of the main suspect's blog posts about Zionism, and a cringeworthy scene where Strike attends a meeting for people worried about gentrification during the 2012 Olympics, only for the activists to say the olympic logo is like a swastika!!!! Much to the resigned weariness of all the sensible people in the room.

Crikey.
Maybe all this 'research' she's been doing has been fodder for the new Strike book, where he gets cancelled for duffing up a transwoman in a bathroom

idunnosomename

wait is that real. what the fuck

also is there any picture of her where she's not pulling the dreamworks face

After reading The Casual Vacancy and noting what a blistering critique of austerity it was and how much the Daily Mail had hated it, I was surprised to learn that JKR is no fan of Corbyn and that she was against Scottish independence.

I think she is very confused.

thats what was so confusing to me. its so understanding and empathising and yet she pushes centrist tory lite like Jess Phillips.

galaxy brain James obrien has weighed in this morning

Click the second pic to read the writing.  All the terfs are loving it; can you imagine the reaction if the kid was pro trans? Also, why has Santa got some kind of choker round his beard?! Too. Much. Porn.

idunnosomename

Does james obrien do anything when hes not broadcasting but retweet praise of his work?

Remember when Geordie "shropshire brain" Grieg was going to turn the Daily Mail into a sensible remain paper? lol

I'm not sure that you can so easily equate relationships with people of the same gender with medical interventions that inherently involve novel risks.

It's fine to wonder about those risks, to want to be assured that they're being managed against the risks of not providing those interventions[nb]Noting that a lot of the discussion about these things is terrible.[/nb], and whether there are less risky non-medicalised ways to alleviate distress.

Of course, thinking seriously about the last of these[nb]and the analogy with depression as far as it's of any value[/nb], we might consider that much of the distress isn't just something to be dug out of the individual but is rooted in large part how they're treated by those around them. The failure to take this seriously - and instead cultivating fear around bathroom police and reinforcing that genital surgery is the true shibboleth of genuine committent[nb]Not that it'll actually buy you dignified treatment in society at larger either, of course.[/nb] - is the fundamental fuck-up.

I'm very suspicious this is him. There's so many tells that either its a copycat that's paid remarkable attention to detail or its him. It doesn't feel like it's just someone trotting out the same guff

Take this tweet, which features his trademark ignorance and disdain for the younger generation.

I like the throwaway addressing him as "Graham" in the replies

James O'Brien falsely representing the argument as 'is biology real' rather than 'what is the best outcome for people with gender dysphoria'. We might think that this battle will end when a generation dies, but this generation controls the media. Repeatedly claim the argument is about 'whether biology is real or not' and people will think that this is the argument.

"Sorry, dysphoric and suicidal teen,  but I checked the textbooks and it turns out that biology is certainly real. This means I cannot help you. Just between you and me though, men are allowed to crochet. Best of luck!"
