He said he wants to do more of 'em so we'll see. They don't take a lot of production so hopefully sooner rather than later

Sounds good

I thought this was interesting, his approach allowed for the conversations to go in all sorts of directions

I see old Louis has a new series of episodes of retrospective out that I'd love to see. Living outside the UK has made that difficult though - if anyone is aware of a way for me to pay him and watch the new eps (or similar) I'd be v grateful.

^thats what I ended up doing, thanks!

Glad to see Louis is a fellow F-91W wearer.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

I actually skipped his new thing on TV last night without even checking what it was. I just assumed it was a new one about some morbid shit, like he does now. Possibly about self harming or something, judging from the title. If it was called "Life with The Edge" I might have tuned in.

Ferris

It was a retrospective thing, nothing especially profound but a couple of quick interviews with former subjects which were interesting. I get the feeling it was to stop Louis going bonkers in lockdown more than anything.

Brundle-Fly

One of the 3-star review remarks: ...'it's really naff to have a successful career and rip off your mate Adam Buxton'

People are so mean spirited. Is merely making another podcast interview show such a flagrant act of plagiarism? If he had joined up with Joe Cornish and started wearing a boat captain's hat then perhaps so.

Retinend

The retrospective show was well worth while for me: it goes to show how people can change for the better. It includes the aryan girls who danced around the swastika in Louis Meets the Nazis, as well as the survivalist patriarch who let Louis sleep in his family home, and the horrible motivational speaker guy who turned out to be a full-on scam artist. Among others. Great stuff.

Those Zoom interviews are way too long.  One of them was over fifteen seconds!

I bet that's just the BBC being their rum atavistic selves when it comes to broadcast quality, when no one really cares but them.  Would like to see less edited versions.

Yeah and me, considering that's the main reason you'd watch this it seemed very light on interview content.

I wonder if the interviews were conducted as a potential second series of his podcast, but they didn't get enough out of them so put some stock footage in and hung some Louis exposition around it and called it a day. I know he did all his podcast conversations at the same time via zoom during lockdown so it'd make sense they were all done at the same time with the same aim in mind. Maybe not. Who knows.

Anyone listened to the KSI one? I know nothing about "Youtubers" and had to look him up, was quite surprised to see this seemingly thoughtful, carefully spoken interviewee was the same guy I remembered acting like a dickhead and being sexually inappropriate for the LOLS in a gaming convention video.
For some reason, they've started popping up in my Youtube recommendations, and I know even less about Youtubers than you do (I mostly watch people using forges to melt stuff and guys fixing things). The Sidemen seem like a reasonable bunch of lads, though, bit of lockdown fun. No idea about their old videos, but their new ones are alright.

Slight tangent but who are The Sidemen? I ways get a recommendation to watch something of theirs that I imagine to be the exact opposite of what I enjoy watching. Also get that James Veitch spam thing all the time (which regardless of anything else seems to be 15 years after its time and done by the likes of Dave Gorman already).

You'll probably be hearing a lot less from him - https://www.pastemagazine.com/comedy/james-veitch/james-veitch-hbo-max/

Yes - had read the thread in Comedy Chat where he gets mentioned. Had just never clicked on the TED link because it looked super shit.

I really want to read those old issues of Hip Hop Connection he had in the box.

Me and a few of my mates used to love Hip Hop Connection. The extraordinary MC Jason Squires, from the "Bite Back" letters page, always gave us a laugh or two.

EDIT: I spent the last hour going through some old issues at https://www.undergroundunited.de/category/magazinesfanzines/alphabetical-list-mags/ but sadly not all of them have the letters page scanned. Like the person who did it assumed that people would prefer to read articles on bands and reviews, and not some guy trolling the readership with his ludicrous rhymes.

Another fun episode.

I never watched the Alcoholism/heroine/dementia ones, they just looked too bleak and depressing. Prefer aliens.

Nice to hear Joe Cornish namedropped.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

I'm hoping there's an episode that features his demolition derby and wrestling ones. Of his more light hearted docs, I think they were the stand out ones. Zoom chat with Sarge please.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

I hope he skypes with Lake Palmer

Is that the furious red-haired bloke who married a Taiwanese woman? I'd love to see what he's up to now, but I suspect he's dead. Either via heart attack or spontaneous combustion.

He's made some classic documentaries over the years, hasn't he? The one he did about chronic alcoholism is 'serious' Louis at his best. The scene where the young bloke just breaks down and throws his arms around Louis is heartbreaking. Also, the paedophile hospital. Some of the most haunting TV I've ever seen.

Mobius

Lake Palmer was still kicking about recently. His latest wife died a few years back though, so am sure he's had a few more since then.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Lake Palmer was the only person who ever made Louis 'break character'. There's a bit in that film where Palmer is going berserk, and Louis just laughs in his angry face. I would've done that too, to be fair.

Retinend

I'm really loving this retrospective series. People are rightly complaining that there is a lot of recycled material, but I don't mind because it's nice just to hear voiceover from today's Louis put over the footage from 20 years ago. It makes it clearer what the intention of these documentaries was. He sort of pulls out the essence of what he was trying to say by curating the footage and reliving the encounters this way: for example it is more clear that, essentially, Louis is anti-porn and sees the people in the industry as people to be pitied.

Retinend

...I wrote that in the middle of watching episode 2. I felt disappointed about the gambling segment - did Louis not want to confirm whether or not that Uber-driving businessman had really fallen on hard times or not? What were we supposed to take from Louis's raised eyebrows? My first thought was, obviously, that he had gambled his fortune away - and so much seemed inevitable. But if that wasn't the case, then what was? That he can't stand his wife and needs to drive an Uber as an excuse to get out of the house? That one really called for a follow-up. Demerit.

He's not always going to be able to follow up effectively if he's in the UK and the gambler/uber man is in Canada. The uber rumour is out there and there's certainly an obvious assumption to be made about what happened, but if the guy declines an interview then all Louis can do is mention it, raise his eyebrows and move on. Doubly so when each retrospective gets about 40 seconds of screen time.

Retinend

You're right, of course: his powers to do such manhunts are limited, especially in 2020.

Still, Twitter probably could have solved it for him.
