So, I've got a really old hard drive. Turns out it's corrupted.

I downloaded easeus and yeh, I can see all my files but I cannot recover my files without upgrading for £70.

Fuck that.

I really just want to recover lost photos (about 1gb worth)... Anyone recommend free data recovery software?

Try Recuva.

Thanks. I did that but it wouldn't work because or corrupt MFT I think it was. Didn't seem to matter with eraseus.

Easeus is probably your best bet although it will recover multiple file parts which can be quite confusing. If you want free and are happy with DOS type commands thentestdisk should do the job

thanks for your help. i ended up managing to recover 1gb free, which will do for now.
