Last night my wife and I discussed moving to Oz. We've both got best mates out there, it's closer to China and we would be eligible for work visas. My old man did it in his 40s so like father like son. I just wanna drink some piss, eat sangers and stop being a fackin sook.

The thought of moving to New Zealand has briefly crossed my mind, I will admit. Not just for the pubs, honest. Numerous reasons. If I was single and Edinburgh didn't exist I probably would have buggered off out of This Mean And Bitter Land years ago.

Got friends in Oz too but don't want to go there, NZ seems a bit more liberal and much more picturesque.

That doesn't stop people dying from smoking, over-drinking, lack of exercise, mental health, it's not going to make any difference now.

None of those kill other, more vulnerable people.

Think about others.

NZ is way less liberal than most parts of Oz - Melbourne is where you want to head if a liberal utopia is your thing - anyway it is hard as fuck to get permanent residency unless you have a skill like nursing or fixing air conditioning type “specialist“ expertise - getting a working visa for IT or sales is nigh on impossible these days alas

You're such a pillock, and insecure too. Thanks for doing stuff in your sleep though.

No I'm not. Sorry to disappoint. I just disagree with you on almost everything.

No it's not just you. But you will just have to suck it up - it's not your fault, it's the inept and corrupt system of government you were only too gleeful in ushering in in 2019.

I voted for the Labour Party mate. As I did in 2017 and 2015.

As always, I think the people who should look at themselves are those who continued to back the least popular party leader in history long after it became obvious he was leading us to a Tory landslide.

it was nice to hear that one of the older regulars who is a bit vulnerable has been getting some help from other pubgoers, delivering groceries etc

Saw this guy on the bus the other day, looking happy and well and wrapped up in the nice warm winter coat two friends of mine from the pub bought for him just before winter. That was really nice to see. I hope the pubs can reopen and he's back among friends soon. Yep, my local is certainly much more than a sweet shop.

Boris Johnson or Keir Starmer?

Corbyn was the most popular leader in the last 40 years for those with empathy, decency and intelligence.

We've done this a billion times Blodders but once again, for those at the back: Corbyn not working out is not the fault of the people who told you it wouldn't work out. It's the fault of the people who put him there and the people who kept him there.

If Keir doesn't work out then is it the fault of the people who put him there or will the left-wingers get the blame again?

It's obviously the left-wing voters voting for the left-wing party and its left-wing leader that were at fault for electing this right-wing government.

GOBII thought Ed Miliband was too left wing for the British public.

Think about that.

Corbyn not working out is not the fault of the people who told you it wouldn't work out.

It's beyond doubt that the 2017 election was lost by Labour because people within Labour who didn't want Corbyn to be the leader actively worked against their own party. People who were telling us Corbyn wouldn't work out then realised they had to take more drastic action when Corbyn was working out.

This is exactly correct.

And now they cry crocodile tears about the actions of the government they worked to put in place.

The system is rotten.

Let's choose someone who wants to replace the system for a change.

Oh no, we can't do that, the system won't like it.

What do we do then?

We pussy foot around entertaining a fantasy that the system can be cajoled and parlayed with, so occasionally we receive meagre concessions and trade offs! Cool, eh!

To be fair GOBII told us so, he told us Labour would poll 40% and achieve the best result for Labour since 1997 within 2 years of Corbyn taking over. Didn't he😢?

Oh no, wait he didn't. He was part of the dead air and dead weight and negativity and drab received opinion that sapped and suppressed and sabotaged the only chance we will ever get for a meaningful reset of the system. He could have offered support to those breaking down the gates but he sat by the side with a loud hailer instead. What a guy.

But still, it's a good job he has the modesty to admit that and not do something awful like come on to a pandemic thread claiming he told us so.

Well let's be fair here, Corbyn might have been as unfit for government as was claimed, or he could have managed a slightly less ridiculous response to this situation than the clearly incompetent current government. Regrettably, no matter how noble his intentions it's unlikely that it would have made much difference because we need a sea change in public attitude before we're fit to address the problems we face and one person cannot fix this. There's a point in there somewhere but I'm afraid that you'll have to fish it out my dear x

Britain doesn't have a President. Really bad reasoning there.. Corbyn was not a superhero flying in - he would have built a team and institutions around the project who would have done the good work.

I guess that my point is that 'Corbynism' is symptomatic of something wider but you're clearly several steps ahead of me there like the rest of the chaps in this thread. Eris would be disappointed in me 😴
