I have a very vague memory that someone in one of the early Big Brothers thought that women didn't shit in the same way that men did, instead they squeezed out elegant little pellets like rabbits do. This thread seems to be the BB encyclopedia, anyone else remember that?

Brian Dowling?

Still regularly think of Nick's "You live by the sword, you die by the sword" and "I'vvvvvvvvvve made a mistake".

I'm surprised by the love for BB5 as I hated it. It was the first one where everyone in it was either unlikable or boring and set the template from then on to fill the house with crazy characters.

Five had Dan who seemed okay. But, yeah wacky or hateful characters are fine, but you need someone to root for.

Craig's "a very deeerrty trich"

Scouse Mark's incredible "liar"

And one that is very random. Tim from Big Brother 3 (came in late, didn't last long)

"Money doesn't buy you happiness but money buys you choices; and choices can make you happy."

Haha fucking hell I can just hear him saying that now.

I always used to cringe when Davina said to the most dull character "Let's look at your best bits", the editors must have been last minute sweating.

Pretty sure I remember this being voted the best moment in BB3:

Simpler times.

Adele from BB3 has done well. Has presented a radio show for the last several years, and her and her wife were on Celebrity Coach Trip last year, with zero mention of her time on Big Brother

"I like blinking, I do"

"'Is there chicken in chickpeas?"

What accent should I read these in, please?

It was Brian. Belo not Dowling though. In a conversation with Nicky I do believe.

According to her, every one was a 'great housemate.' No they weren't. Some were shit. Just found a list of all contestants and there are quite a few  - up to series nine when I bailed out forever - who I have no recollection of at all. Although I will once again point out that I did not by any means watch every episode. If I keep saying that I might be believed.

Justine Sellman? Jayne Kitt? Michael Cheshire? I don't care what your name is, you're not getting in.

Anyone ever voted by the way? I did once. And only once. For Darren to win the first series. Fat lot of good that did.

Deanjam

Never voted. Only reality contestant I ever voted for was Leona Lewis and she's still never been round to thank me.

I've genuinely never even considered voting for anyone in any of these things before or since. I think it was because I'd been chatting to a relative (not my sister surprisingly, who is probably one of the few people on earth to watch every single series) who for some reason couldn't stand Darren. So I did it to annoy him. It didn't. Although I think he wanted Anna to win so there was no glory for him either.

Custard

I'd usually vote for someone when I despised the person they were up against. I definitely remember voting against Craig when he was up against Science or someone

Btw, I watched the clip of Anthony and Makosi apparently shagging in the jacuzzi last night. It gets pretty porny, with them two at it, then Orlaith allowing her bare tits to be felt up and kissed by everyone.

What ruined it was slimey Craig getting involved. Orlaith full on frenchy'ing him. Bleaurghhh

Makosi and Orlaith going for it too. Oof

I won't link to it, but it's available on most grot sites. So put ten minutes and a bog roll aside

She's on Five Live this afternoon. Emma Barnett has just told me.

I've just remembered my third connection to the show. That's after knowing people who knew the horse-faced Italian and being in the same pub as PJ's brother. There was a middle-aged woman in one series who had previously been in the SWP, and as a couple of people I worked with were too they'd met her at the conferences (although the SWP is so small it would be pretty hard not to.)

Just looked her up. Carole Vincent, series eight. Came fifth. Think I can sell my story to one of the tabloids?

Surprised to hear Jackie Stallone is still alive. 98!

I voted to ensure Helen Wood wouldn't win. It did not work.

The selections from BB3 and CBB7 were rubbish, they really mucked that up. But the boxes task from BB6 was somehow even better than I remembered, I'd completely forgotten about Maxwell and Saskia trying make holes in their boxes to shag through. I'd also largely forgotten how much of a plum Maxwell was generally. Science is an all-time great.

Ja'moke

After last night's episode, I was looking up where some of the BB6 housemates are now. Turns out Vanessa (the one that injured her ankle) went to Harvard Law school after BB.

Ja'moke

You can tell BB2 is the innocent days when the most drama in a given day is a slightly larger than normal moth flying into the house.

She was mates with my fave Marco who was also a law student and apparently coached her into what to say to get in. Which if I remember correctly was something about liking big cocks. Lack of personal dignity and trying to come across like a teenage porn star are obvious necessities for getting into Harvard.

A very pure lovely bunch of people. But it's no wonder the show became what it was, those older eps are a chore to get through and they even had to stitch together a few days worth of "highlights".

It became something that I couldn't bear even watching a minute of. That's what it became.

Sad 4 u.

Thanks!

But it went from maybe having a few housemates that if you knew in real life you might go for a drink with to being entirely populated by people that if you knew in real life you'd actually pay to go to different pubs than you do.

It looked like a really lovely youth hostel. The make a load of sausages and win a barbeque task was so heart warming.

Found it very weird to see them sitting around reading A MAGAZINE as well.

Plus, I liked the days when it at least made some pretence of being a psychological experiment.  I was even disappointed when it came back for a second series. I'd still watch it though (I'll just emphasise again here, not all the time) but after series five it really had nowhere to go. But they tried to push things even further and the balance of wankers went to over 90 percent. Every year. Practically nobody you could think: "I hope they win because they seem like a decent person' instead 'ooh look, this person is being 'entertaining' by acting like a spoilt four-year-old. They must win.' Plus they fucked around with the format far too much.

I have seen a couple of episodes of the later series' on Channel 5 while visiting my sister and everyone looked exactly the same. 'Good-looking'  people whose entire life has been based on being 'good-looking' and have nothing else to offer. It was shit. I'm glad it's gone.

Utter Shit

Does anyone know where I could find the full Fight Night episode of Big Brother? I've moaned so much about its exclusion from the E4 retrospective that my wife now wants to see it.

Do you reckon it will ever come back? I'm sure there would still be an appetite for a reboot of the old format, with normal people trying to get by in a weird environment, rather than the modern version with cunts trying to be obnoxious enough to stay famous after it's over. Or maybe the ship has sailed and they will only ever get that sort of applicant now?

EDIT: Found a torrent for each of the original series in full! Lovely.

There have been rumours that Channel 4 is looking to bring back CBB with Davina as host.

I'm not sure they'll bring back the civilian version, especially in the format you describe, as Channel 4 already has that with The Circle, which is far more similar to the early years of Big Brother (despite the tech twist) than the later years (as in, it casts relatively "normal" and relatively likable people).
