In terms of her happy home life, I'm not convinced. Her Facebook profile is public, and it seems that her only "friends" are JWs in various far-flung locations, with some fairly bleak, if vague, allusions to her family "marrying out of the truth" and not having much contact.

I also read Glinner's second-most recent blog post recently, where or 'JL', whoever that is, repeatedly referred to Munroe Bergdorf - who terfs seem to think is one of the Most Evil People In History at the moment - as 'he'. It was pretty gross and unpleasant all-round. Twitter should nuke anyone who links to his blog.

JL can hardly complain about not being able to be open about their beliefs if they're going to be so transparently bigoted.

I think that's a very fair point, BJ, and on reflection I'm a bit uneasy about my own actions on that front. It is irritating to be endlessly lectured on acceptable and wholesome lifestyles by a lonely, hypocritical, deranged old religious bigot who's Glinnered her own family, but I have no wish to doxx anybody. This isn't Kiwifarms.

Dammit Sian, being so intriguing! Anyway yeah I agree BlueJam, and I edited my post too. Sian isn't even a high-profile non-celeb internet terf, either. She's just an interesting character that is peripheral to the Glinner story. As far as the Twitter GC movement goes, she's a trivial part of it, and far from one of the most harmful people. Hell, she's only got about 250 Twitter followers.

I've been a bit uneasy too. Like a lot of people right now I think I've just been very very bored lately and not thinking too much about what I've been posting.

Also I have been a bit invested in this because I have former friends who have gone full TERF. These were people who had popular blogs and lots of Twitter followers and who were doing good and useful work for the whole Skeptic cause and who have now sacked it all off to rant about toilets. It has genuinely saddened me but they're beyond help so I'll just let them all get on with nuking their lives.

It's gonna be hard to wring more out of the Glinner story, which is a good thing all-round. There have been more than a few days where my mind has been preoccupied with Glinner. It's like litter. I must admit that I love a bit of old-fashioned e-hate though, it seems like repeatedly targeting or trolling obnoxious organisations is something my brain likes to do.

Hell I don't even know any trans women; I'm friends with one NB / trans man. I worked with someone who has recently come out as a trans woman, they were the only person in the office I got along with, but this was about 10 years ago.

At least Glinner got me here, though; somewhere else to 'socialise' while I work that isn't the hellsphere of Twitter, or the 'business clients see you calling Churchill a cunt'-sphere of Facebook. Or Reddit, which takes up too much time. Twitter gives me anxiety.

I would love to see that Helen Staniland get booted off Twitter. She's a lot more careful in her trans-hate than Glinner in terms of adhering to the TOS, but she's perhaps more obnoxious, and I think she's more effective, too. Not effective in the sense of making a good argument, but in that she is better at inciting pile-ons on people that support trans rights, and getting a bunch of people to call them pedos. But she's just a civilian like you or I and perhaps not worth the mental space.

The term seems to have evolved from the 'I want to speak to the manager haircut' meme on reddit, and like that meme it was being used, in its early days, as a shorthand for 'women - cuh, annoying how they're always talking, like moooom stop embarrassing me!!!'. It smacks of teenage boy. Any clip of a woman doing ANYTHING would be pounced on if she had a short, bob haircut. 'Ha ha typical!!!' It was no different from the 'nagging wife' trope.

There have since been claims made that it's a rallying cry from put upon, majority POC waiting staff to strike back at privileged white women. But if I'm honest, I'm not seeing it. And even if it was, why just women? Is it only women who are racist to POC waiting staff? Why does it need a specific term for 'annoying woman'.

It's also mutated now to just mean 'woman doing something'. Again, I've said it before, but there was a video on reddit of Extinction Rebellion blocking a road entitled 'KARENS BLOCK ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR'. Right, so it's just any protest now is it? Protestors are just Karens now, bloody Karens. 'Look at this Karen sitting at the front of the bus!!! Like, some people have jobs to go to Karen!!!'

Get rid of it. Pointless term.
