This release was a huge surprise even to people who had been following the album's progress! I think it really stands up to their 90s albums (although I don't think any album ever could knock Downward is Heavenward off my #1 spot)

DIH is my favourite too.

I knew the album was probably done but this drop was still a big surprise. I've listened to it four or five times now and I love it. Trying to pick up where you left off after such a big gap between records is often a bad idea but they've absolutely nailed it here.

Stoneage Dinosaurs

Only ever heard You'd Prefer An Austronaut but it's a lovely slice of woozy loud guitar niceness. Definitely be giving this a go so cheers for the shout!

Captain Crunch

I'd never heard of this band until yesterday and I love this sort of thing.  If anyone has any recommendations of similar acts I'd be grateful.  I have heard of Ride at least.

YES FUCK. How did I not know this!? Love HUM such an influential band on many great late 90s/early 2000s bands (Deftones and Hopesfall, I'm looking at you).

I shall listen with great pleasure.

Shoegazey bands have the magical ability to do this. See also: MBV, Slowdive

Never thought about that but that's a good point. If we're including them then I'd say Failure are another good example.

I listened to this today & I liked it. I fell asleep during and dreamt of things that felt actual and acceptable and heavy with colours, rather than that what real awake life is currently offering, and woke up just as it finished. I liked Hum a long time ago, when John Peel played Sundress, and it was taped, ferric magentic, church benched, very long. They went a bit pumpkin slushy, I think, although I did really like You'd Prefer An Astronaut. Again, same girl, idiot faded field flavoured town, nothing. Used to smash junk shop lamps, plates and framed grandpas to 'I'd Like Your Hair Long'

Hum shared champaigne members with the amazing band Love Cup, who readers of a certain vintage with their fingers pause tape trained might remember for the musical song Tearing Water. THIS SHIT GOES OFF[nb]I would like to offer up some more Love Cup songs just to get your hot red gills fluttering their red flutes
