^i said that in the first post fam. the book series doesn't exist either.

Oh shit, yeah. That'll teach me for not reading properly and trying to be a smart arse.

Captain Z

Almost tempted to set up a Twitter account just so I could post "Hi this is the garage manager here. Just thought I should step in to say that unfortunately everyone involved in this story has now died. RIP."

BritishHobo

"I am the Mayor of this generic French town, and I apologise that I have to report that the author of these tweets is a massive fucking paedo and we've been trying to kick him out for years."

BritishHobo

Loads loads more tweets today, including a phone-call from the son's lawyer, who is paranoid about webcams, and more info from the garage owner including a story about the son falling off a bridge in Hemel Hempstead, which the son then messages the Tweeterer to furiously deny.

More and more people calling bollocks in his replies, but many others are still on board. I cannot fucking BELIEVE that there are people who still believe it at this point. HOW?!

bushwick

the people who say "wankpuffin" are digging it and wanting it to be real. Very twee. The stuff about the son made me think of Kelvin "2012 Foundation" Knox from the TBEU, who has a disrespectful teenage son maybe modeled on Will Self's lad, which actually is funny.

king_tubby

Spencer's gone missing, you monster. With Kelvin's volvo.

bushwick

Kelvin understandably needs to reverse Brexit first before finding his boy, he's too preoccupied.

Sebastian Cobb

Account deleted now. This security guy has called the expected playbook including 'threats' etc.

Oh no, and the real son was just about to really arrive on the Eurostar!

I can't believe the absolute laziness after all that of just making up a Eurostar train time instead of actually looking up a schedule. To me it shows up the half-arsed nature of the whole thing. As the stupid bollocks story expanded, he brought in e-mails, WhatsApp messages and the like, but couldn't be fucking arsed even to mock them up for screenshots.

What's especially annoying me now is all the people - far too late - going 'ah yes it turned out not to be true, but it was really well-written and we needed a laugh!' Fuck off. No it wasn't well-written, it was shit. It was believable for one tweet and one tweet only, but you all believed it for about four hundred more. Admit you got fucking conned and you all fell for a ridiculous, broad mishmash of strawman stereotypes because it told you something you wanted to believe was true of people you disagree with. If someone with a Union Jack profile picture had done a ludicrous thread about some cartoonish champagne socialist FBPE remainers trying to get the EU to ban white vans from parking on their street or something, they'd all be pissing themselves about gullible Brexiters. But here they're saving face, and pretending that the supposed factual nature of the story played absolutely no role in their enjoyment of it. BOLLOCKS.

idunnosomename

Why did he delete his account? What was so important about it being true? Did all of Twitter turn into Emma Kennedy

BritishHobo

I could be wrong on the order of events, but it looks a little bit like he made up a Eurostar journey that didn't exist, and basic research proved he was bullshitting in a way he couldn't explain away. Also he was coming to the big climactic part of the story, where he's supposed to be meeting the son and they all go and see the Mayor and the Mayor's entire staff, so I wonder if he bottled it.

His own fault for backing himself into such a stupid corner. Got greedy. Why wasn't he satisfied with the first viral tweet? Just the made-up couple saying something ignorant. Clean, simple, wrapped-up. But he got a taste of the high life and he chased it. And now Brexiters have killed him.

evilcommiedictator

Pretty sure the entire town of Ebbw Vales was kept afloat by EU funding, creating a college, a leisure centre etc.

and now the creator(s) of that cartoon have a tremendous economic weight on their shoulders :(

BritishHobo

Cannot BELIEVE this absolute chancer is back, and that people STILL BELIEVE THIS

I have become a dedicated Brexiter now, directly because of this cunt's bullshit. Becoming a member of The Brexit Party and it's all his fault.

BritishHobo

Just wanted to make it known that this Twitter thread is still going on and there are still people in the replies who think it is a real story that is currently actually happening in France.

We deserve Brexit.

Blinder Data

Oh God, I bet it's the same people behind it who manufactured Titania McGrath, or some other like-minded troll who wants to own the libs. The crowing at the final reveal will be stomach-churning.

Even so, somehow that would still better than it being the fantasy of a bonkers member of the #FBPE crowd.

mothman

I was wondering if there was a thread about this account. I've continued to Follow it, always wondering what the point of it might be? After the initial burst of fame, it settled down into these curious largely inoffensive vignettes of life in France. Most of it you'd probably take at face value if not for the obviously farcical (beyond the point of credibility) nature of some of "his" anecdotes.

And it still isn't clear what the real game is. Laughing at Remainers for laughing at made-up Brexiteers? Well there are plenty of real Brexiteers for us to laugh at, so not really the self-own "he" thinks he's making us inflict on ourselves. It just feels very weird for someone to waste so much of their time like this, in some forlorn hope (one assumes) that people will become invested in it for... some reason...

And then...

Well, funny you said that, because while I'd largely ceased to pay much attention, today on International Women's Day "he" has decided to go the full TERF. All the hits - men using women's toilets, scientific/genetic definitions of gender, etc. Is this finally "his" owning us libs moment? Don't know. Don't really care.

christ what a cunt

he's actually tweeting shit from glinner's substack. centrist brainrot. their anti-brexit stance wasn't about how it would affect the country, it was all about how it would personally inconvenience them. and now they've moved on to other shit that they don't approve of

Why is this worthy of discussion? Genuinely, is there a thread because some man has made a fake twitter account, mocking Brexiters and pretending to be in France? Honestly not trying to be snooty but I don't understand why there are over 50 comments about this.

It was the viral thread du jour on Twitter back in June last year so it was everywhere for a brief period, hence this thread about it. Like all these viral things, it's hard to remember anything much about them once the initial peak has ended, so it seems wholly unremarkable now.

idunnosomename

it was a bit like captain tom for how many credulous dunces it took in. didn't know its grift was still going

Maybe it WAS Graham all along

lol he wishes

For me the point is, there is no point. Idle curiosity, maybe. Why the fuck would someone put so much effort into... whatever this is? It's not funny. It's not fooling anyone (I don't think; maybe it is...). The account has intermittently made some actual valid, albeit unoriginal, points about the fallacies of Brexit that might just conceivably rule out it really being the work of some frothing Leaver. Apart from some who might potentially buy into it (stranger things have happened), whose time is "RS Archer" wasting apart from " his" own?
